LIBER ASTARTES SWAP CHALLENGE 2019 - Completed Miniatures

Recommended Posts

More completions to give me a fine lift of happiness after a very intensive week or two with work and lo and behold, there stands a Vanquisher in all his resplendent glory! :woot:

@ golfdeltafoxtrot: Man that Reiver really sets the bar on me painting up your Grey Raven later on once I can base it! The added touches of the Ashen Blades' character and background on the base really makes the model complete and is one of my favourite and special things about the LASC of old when peeps did stuff like that. Well done!

@ Berzul: Absolutely masterful work and well kept within the character of my beloved Vanquishers! The loadout and kitbash is really well done alongside that smooth purple. :tu:

@ Warriorfish : I am very, very jealous of that smooth gold, it looks really crisp and clean alongside the base. What did you use for that?

Just over a month to go and we got a good chunk of completions, let's keep at it brothers and sisters! :tu:

Just ordered my new light/magnifying glass! Going to pick up the models on 12/6/2019 and should be finished painting them up shortly after that. :biggrin.:

Again, great job everyone!

The gold is Auric I think it's called now - the yellowy one rather than orangey. I like to paint gold/copper colours on a light brown base with two or three coats (remember Duncan's favourite Greek: Menelaus). Wash was Reikland and highlighted with Sigmarite :smile.: It's from Duncan's Thousand Sons tutorial which I also use on my Sons, gives a nice warmer gold

As a connoisseur of purple marines with my Vanquishers, that is a fantastic job, Trokair! It can be a real pain in the neck to paint (I'm glad I'm only doing grey this time, but then there's tonnes of plastic awaiting the paintbrushes still to complete... :ph34r.:).

<EDIT> I've added links to mark those completed to help everyone keep track of their fellow participants' work. I've been beyond impressed by what has been produced thus far, can't wait to see the rest. :D

  • 2 weeks later...

Here are my entries. Because I had issues with resizing the images and don't want to force too much scrolling on this thread, I'm submitting links to images of both minis.

That Strigoi looks genuinely menacing. :blink.:

Would have thought that hard to do with a bareheaded Intercessor, but there's proof it can be done!

The yellow on the Imperial Shield is absolutely a thing of beauty, too.

I've been painting yellow (admittedly as trim on my Chaos boys) for about a decade and still can't get it looking that smooth. :laugh.:

Bravo!

Outstanding work, Messor! Great to see an extra completion before Xmas! :D

Ace is on the nose with how menacing the Strigoi marine looks, which shows their character really nicely through the power of paint on the Primaris marine (the flat top head for some reason makes me think of Tombstone from the Spiderman cartoon of my youth...). Sublime work on the freehanding too for the skull on the Strigoi.

Painting yellow is never an easy task, but the colours on the Imperial Shield are lovely and smooth to match the grey, plus I do like that slightly 'at ease' pose with the auspex in hand, which I'm often a sucker for.

Only just over a week left! I hope Sanity Claws brings plenty of goodies for everyone soon to help you in completing this endeavour!

Well, Boxing Day passes and I am very happy to report that my vow is complete!

Thus here we have Veteran Sergeant Tahel Kyvrann of the Grey Ravens, seconded to the Fourth "Resilient" Company of the Vanquishers:

med_gallery_26154_4383_493076.jpg

And as is my usual tradition, some lore on this Reiver Sgt:

Access Active File: Vermillion Theta 22.1.1.

Access Granted.

File: Secondment of Grey Raven "Veteran Sergeant Tahel Kyvrann"

After the loss of the Emerald Tears and their eventual replacement of the Viridian Angels, the Vanquishers came to realise that they needed to have their Void Warfare skills honed much more, having relied heavily on the honoured fallen Emerald Tears' duties to guard the Cinder Gap of the Fidel Sector. Requesting secondment of Void Warfare specialist chapters to ensure Bastion Imperialis' continued resilience in the tumultuous times of the recent centuries, the Vanquishers welcomed the approval of the Grey Ravens' chapter.

Sending one of their own to the sons of Corax, in a sign of brotherhood and sharing of skills, the Vanquishers' were granted the presence and skills of Veteran Sergeant Tahel Kyvrann. The pragmatic Grey Raven took no time into beginning his teachings of Zero-G and Void Warfare to the sons of Caeron as the heightened Chaos activities of the Fidel Sector provided plenty of battles to train and teach. Soon, the methodologies and prosecution of ship-to-ship and warfare in the harsh void from the Vanquishers' improved to degrees not seen since before the Emerald Tears' founding.

Currently, Kyvrann has been seconded into the Fourth 'Resilient' Company's ranks, under the command of Captain Draeg. The Grey Raven has been aiding the company's Reiver squads in his Chapters' style and methods of stealth warfare upon the urban sprawls of Corona II, after aiding the Chapter in clearing the naval blockade above its surface first. After planetfall, Kyvrann also witnessed and received knowledge and experience in the Vanquishers' own tactics in their specialised theatre of war to take back to the Grey Ravens. Upon his left knee-pad, he carries the mark of the Corona II campaign and the mark of Reiver squad leader on his right shoulder-pad, as he leads his seconded squad.

+++

And there we have it.

Only a few days left, Brothers and Sisters! Let's see some fresh completions during the next few days and earn that banner of completion! :biggrin.:

Brother Cambrius, I'm blown away by the quality of your work.

The freehand Chapter badge is excellent, the faceplate and helmet stripe really draw the eye, and the base gives him a great sense of drama. The little fluff piece really brings to life the Grey Ravens' method of warfare, and I love that they're considered expert enough to be providing training to other Chapters.

Thank you so much for all the work you've put into this piece.

Thank you very much indeed for the kind words. :) I am glad I managed to do your Chapter justice with only my second ever Primaris model.

Only a few days left to go! Good luck everyone.

Brother Teleron of Aothaine’s Advent Fists

Was great fun to paint each of these. Stretched my skills some (freehanded a chapter symbol—though only because it was all simple-ish shapes. Sorry, Argent), and tested (and bought) lots of new paint and painting techniques.

It was a nice break from white and red, and to hand-paint a silver model for once.

Many thanks to Brother Cambrius for everything he’s done to put this event on. Three cheers for Bro. Cambrius!

Lore, and maybe basing to follow in the next couple of days. I’ll also get around to posting these in the respective threads soon as well.

Apothecary Atris of the WHITE HAWKS

:woot:

That apothecary is a thing of beauty, brother.

Your painting does Talhon and the White Hawks proud!

The hat and chestplate look truly fantastic, I might have to get my hands on some of them for my Hawks going forward... :ph34r.:

I’m glad you’re happy with it :) I really enjoyed reading about your chapter! A great backstory and character for them :)

Finished last night!  This turned out to be more enjoyable to paint than I originally anticipated.  After getting through the hot garbage phase of painting from the WIP, I think the model turned out pretty good.

This chapter doesn't have a chapter symbol, but they paint a unique star chart on their armor of all of the systems they have campaigned in.  I did his shoulder pad as the Ghoul Stars because I've always thought that part of the galaxy was the most interesting.

Thank you Frostbit3, he turned out really nice.  I better work a little fluff segment into the next revision of the article to feature a campaign in the Ghoul Stars. ;)
