Building a Proxy Stormlord

So... I want a Stormlord in my Astra Army (Squats) and don't like the standard configuration because it just doesn't look like it could house 40 troops (plus all the gubbins). As a result, I've started to build a Stormlord that harks back to the golden age of Epic. The starting kit is a 1/35th scale Panther that has been widened by 4 CM. The rest (so far) is plasticard.

In the beginning:

The main gun:

I have ordered a Baneblade Sponson set and will be converting that into suitable side weapons. I also have a pair of heavy stubbers from a pair of Kastelan robots  and plenty of heavy bolters for the hull weapons. I plan to have entrance/exit ramps at the front and back...

... that's about it so far :smile.: .

Cheers :) ... I'm glad you like it so far :) ... I have now received the sponson sprues and have started to build them up (the las-cannon turrets are not fixed on... just placed there for a photo opportunity):

It's quite nice to find a few other bits and bobs on the sprue that will really help when adding details later on :) .

I’m jealous that yours seems to have one piece tracks! (The kit I’m using as a base has each individual segment of track separately... taking ages!)

It's just a cheap Tamiya kit... they usually have one-piece, rubber tracks.

I am using a dragon elefant kit (http://www.kitreview.com/reviews/elefantreviewcs) (cheap eBay find) but the tracks are made up of about 120 separate little links!

By far the longest part of the project.

It's a bugger, isn't it? I can see why some model-makers want separate links but I reckon they'd be better as an aftermarket thing. If you look for them, you can find track jigs that can help the process... but it's always going to be a bit of an arse to do.

Luckily, I don't have that problem so I can just tick along with the build... side-skirts and altered turrets:
