The Emperor will kill Horus, then on the next, last page he'll be interred on the Throne and that will be that.

It's literally what I want to get. There's no need to say much after everyone lay dead on Vengeful Spirit deck. All important things already happened. The end of an era should be like that. Less words, more emptiness inside.

Hmmm and the final line of text on the final page “I was there the day the Emperor slew Horus”

Would like Horus to perma-kill Ollianus Pius

Book 8 is I reckon a poison chalice. Hardcore fans have had nearly 30yrs of head cannoning and fluff pieces about how the HH ends and SoT. No matter who is writing it there will be some people who just won’t be happy.

However, IMHO the best author for the job is Abnett given adequate time and wordcount (and no competing gigs for Marvel or DC etc)

This is a really good point.  Book 8 may end up being like the last season of GOT.  ultimately you aren’t going to be able to satisfy fans wrapping up a huge series such as the HH in only 400 pages.

They could always throw a curveball and have the emperor fight Horus at the end of book 7, to leave the rest of book 8 to mop things up.

I mean, not getting into specifics (because this isn't the place for it), general reception of season 8 of GoT wasn't just a case of "you can't please everyone".

Though I'm sure the final book will have some of that (not being able to please everyone I mean, not GoT season 8, Emperor willing).

The thing is this book won’t really be an end it’s a leader into the whole of 40k the scouring and beyond. Think return of the Jedi.
I agree with DukeLeto book 8 will be probably be cursed. There is no way to please us all, just way too much to fit into it.
Personally I would rather Bowden did it but he’s probably bricking it over actually having a book to finish on time never mind finish the final book on time. That would probably be Bowdens last book.

Hmmm. On the one hand that doesn't really tell us much. On the other, it's not what I was expecting at all from the title.

Blurb is so vague and neutral it doesn't tell us anything at all.

However what is interesting is the fact that the hardcover comes out start of July, which means we will probably see the LE late March/Early April.

I think that if we are already moving into the inner palace the timeline in each novel is going to decrease significantly to a matter of weeks per novel with some running at the same time.

Your opinion is important, and someone posting here probably does care what you think. You should go tell them. Remember that it really hurts to come up with an idea you care about and have no one else care. Go care about something and tell them what you think. Now. Think of what it would have meant to you when you were young.

If that’s the case the whole series is going to have a very narrow focus and could descend into Bolter porn. I hope not. The seige is massive, Terra is massive and the story has so many angles I hope it doesn’t dwell too much on shoot em ups

As someone who thinks Garvi is still around in 40k.... Yes.

People will say they are giving into fanboys like me. I think this was the plan for Cerberus from the start.

"Death comes in many forms, but i would count aerial bombardment amongst the most satisfyingly efficient."

No idea. I used to think he would be with the Grey Knights. Now not so much... 10k years is a long time.

Well, that one rumor can be firmly put to rest after The Buried Dagger; Loken remains on Terra (as seen in The Solar War) after rejected his role as one of the Grey Knights founders.

I really wish I hadn't seen this. I haven't read The Buried Dagger yet and I'd purposely avoided the thread for spoilers.

Apologies, brother. But to be fair, this is the Siege, and Loken and the Knights Errant were already addressed in The Solar War and The Lost and the Damned

There was a Saturnine Gate in the old bill king story. Which was the outer gate theyve been fighting over so far. Cant remember if it was called that in universe.

The series so far seems to vaguely mirror the events of the story.

Which is about where we are after Khan retakes Lions Gate. Dunno if hack thorpe mentions the eternity wall port.

So at a guess.

Saturnine is the Deaths Heads rolling in and smashing up the place. Kind of appropriate, given its Abnett.

The fight for the inner palace. The BA will probably be firemen, rushing from one fight to the next.

The retreat to the inner palace and Sanguinius holding a gate again because GW like telling the same tale 2 or 3 times.

Where he duffs up  KaBanda again.

I wonder how accurate that will be.

In First Wall, Thorpe definitely makes reference to the Saturnine Gate, so it definitely could be centred around that.

Imagine complaining about the repetitiveness of defending a gate in a siege battle. Whatever you do, don't read any medieval history. Or lord of the rings. Or anything involving layered defenses.

So Saturnine jumps past the WS action at the Lion's Gate, and I assume Wraight's novel will jump back to that?

WS retaking the Lions Gate is much later in the story
