Best Dreadnoughts...1 Leviathan, or 2 Redemptors, or....

Has anyone crunched the numbers on what is more optimal?  1 Leviathan Dread vs 2 Redemptors vs 2 Invictor Warsuits.

I've found the Levithan is a bullet magnet and despite the high toughness and 4++ it lasts less than 3 rounds.

2 Redemptors lose the invuln, but redundancy...a lot more firepower.

But I don't think its all that much tougher than Invictors who can infiltrate, but they're firepower is a lot less then redemptors.

I've also looked at Chaplain Dreads who are characters, but their weapons don't synergize well with IF doctrines and strats.

MOrtis Dreads with twin heavy bolters are also a possibility.

What are your thoughts? I want survivability and high rate of fire on long range weapons.

While I think I wouldn't use a Chaplain Dreadnought as a primary threat kind of unit, I do think it synergizes pretty well with a few units that work well for us. Along with the Banner of Staganda, it makes Aggressors or Veteran Intercessors into pretty interesting counter-assault units, which can dissuade chargers or be used to clear out an objective. S10 Aggressors with a Heroically Intervening Dreadnought is something I really want to try as an anchor unit that can do without a Captain bubble. So it has a lot of utility if you aren't doing a complete static gunline, and I actually think a list made to cycle through the doctrines should perform pretty well for Fists. Not really what you're looking for, but I think it can fill an interesting niche for us.

I'd consider Mortis Contemptors with a bunch of heavy bolters or autocannons for the role you're going for. They don't have nearly the firepower of the Leviathan, but both loadouts are a lot cheaper.

There are lots of candidates. The guy who won heat 4 of the UKGT had three heavy bolter Mortis contemptors. A guy in 4th had two with lascannons and a leviathan.

To be honest they’re all probably good. I like the idea of a deredeo with a bubble to protect a redemptor or two.

  • For long range antitank, the venerable dread with missile launcher and twin lascannon is a good choice. Survivability is lower than other dread options though.
  • A dakka redemptor with heavy onslaught gatling and onslaught gatling would be great at mowing down infantry.
  • Invictor warsuits may have less weaponry & resilience than a redemptor, but then again, they're more of a pressure tool that can be in the face of your enemy quickly.
  • For imperial fists, the ironclad dreadnought with hurricane bolters & chainfist would be an option that would synergize with the chapter tactics. It's also T8. A bit slow and short ranged though.

Can't say much about FW dreads as I don't have much experience with them.

Contemptor dreads get an invulnerability save, but the codex version has short ranged weapons.

If the FW variants can take heavy bolters, they'd synergize well.

The Mortis Contemptor variety, including the relic options, can take two twin Heavy Bolters on top of a missile launcher.
