White Scars in Assault

How good are White Scars as far as melee bikers are concerned? I am currently trying to throw together a sort of shock cavalry / knight-themed homebrew Chapter and I'm trying to find the rules to best represent the classic medieval heavy cavalry that were medieval knights. Currently, I'm still fleshing out a Blood Angels army, but I was wondering how well White Scars could fulfill this archetype.

The WS bikers can function is assault well because of their ability to fall back and assault again after shooting with the use of CP.  The Bike Khan and Bike Smash Captains are awesome with the right War Lord Traits and gear.

While they get to there targets super fast, the biggest weakness of bikes that are geared for melee is multi-level terrain that their targets can hide in, as they can't get up into them.  Other than that, they are solid.  I always enjoy fielding mine in a less competitive scene.  But to stay competitive they get set to the side and replaced with 20 Vanguard vets with storm shields.

As highly mobile gun platforms, they really excel though.  I almost always have a trio of attack bikes with Multi-meltas in my WS lists.

Competitively speaking I agree with Armament81. Bikes fill a different role than assault while utilizing the assault phase.  They don't ride in and demolish the enemy.  Role up, shoot the hell out of whatever target needs killing, and then assault so they cannot be shot the next turn.  They then break away shoot and change again.  I have 20 Vangaurd Vets in my "competitive" White Scars list which do much more rip and tear, but the bikes get work done.  I haven't used them with my Knights, I'll try it out and post how it goes later.
