First game new BA.

WOW !!! SO, so, so much fun !!!!! REALLY nice to have these guys work this way now.

I played with the following brigade:

Smashy - Angels Wing, Hammer, Shield  (Artisans)

Corbulo

Astorath - (rage, focus, hate)

2x 5 Incursors -mines

2x 5 Intercessors - autobolters

2x 5 Intercessors - stalkers

10x VenVets - 10shields,5fists

10x VenVets - 9shields, 5fists

Sanguinary Ancient - Fist, Banner of Sacrifice (WL -  soulwarden)

Contemptor Mortis - Quad Las

Contemptor Mortis - Quad Las

Rapier- Quad Launcher

2x Attack Bikes - HB

1x Attack Bike - HB

1x Attack Bike - HB

I played against a footsloggy DG army - it was actually oddly mirror-esque in style.  He had loads of plague marines (3x 7 and 1x14 i think) and then 14 and 14 pox walkers and tons of characters buffing - all led by Typhus, supported by hellforged contemptors.

It was a great game, with BA taking their time to use the terrain and move up.  Corbs was great raising loads of guys from the dead.  The incursors...for all my upselling...didnt even get into combat!!!! This was partly due to the enemy army type and playstyle but ...they were being held back waiting to counter...but i wound up having to go hunt for points...so, the vanguard did the heavy lifting as per usual.

Echoes is amazing. Love it.  The +1 actually came into play in the first deepstrike charge of the game- so...yay.

New ability to give another WLT is GREAT because Smashy needs Artisans so often, yet, gets sent to die.......this means that the Sang Ancient can benefit from rerolls from himself, and get something usefull. May even consider a rulebook WLT :P

Overall, the army is a lot more heady to play.....and it made me realise how broken artisans is.  Silly rule.  SM still top top shelf, but BA can defs hold their own now - especially with litanies.

Damn.

I got some *bruh FW units are so OP* when playing one of this thing against a DE player (who demolished me btw) so i wonder how your opponent reacted if you did that.

He was playing 2 chaos ones (which were better) :P

I'd suggest bringing three next time to your game with him - and when he complains suggest he write in to GW with his thoughts cause last you checked they were legal :P .

Did you play book missions or ITC? manage to pull off any shenanigans or was it a straight forward kind of game?

ITC! The 4 objective missions.

I pulled off a Corbs/Astorath/SGA Hate+Hate charge with the vanguard !! (but forgot Mass of Doom, sadly!)  Was amazing.

It was a super cagey game, with neither of us killing a unit turn one, and only him killing a unit turn 2.

Awesome! I have a friend who plays DG and that army has always been the bane of my existence, although he does run 20 blightlords and trying to chew through that many 5+++ wounds is absolutely bananas. (side note, I think I'll just run circles around them next time, it just never seems to pay off to fight them upfront)

Question - Lucius pattern drop pod and a death company dread? With a magna-grapple it gets +3 to charge - therefore only needing a six. On a T1 drop. For barely 200 points. Is there something I’m missing as to why this isn’t being used?!

Maybe because its just come out! (Also, remember the grapple is vs a charge against one vehicle only).   But, yeh, I love it.  Great option and actually in one of my alternate/fun-but-strong

builds I had.

Glad to see you are using some Primaris for troops now.

What are your thoughts on DC Intercessors ?

TRAGICALLY.....Not going to see the light of day in serious lists. ( For reasons outlined plenty here).

Played my second game today with the same list.  I like the addition of the priest.  I had forgotten bout Chalice Overflowing last time.  This time, i wasnt so lucky even with Corbs reroll, but did manage to bring some guys back.  Turn three is super fun.

I think its when all BA units become scary.

it would be interesting to see if corbs gets the faith and fury benefit of rerolling revive dice so you can spend his reroll elsewhere.

post some pics too? I judge a man by his terrain ;-P

But anyway, good to see you trying out some new ideas, but still playing lists that *feel* like BA.

I´ll have to settle for enjoying the feedback you provide for the upgrades BA, since I won´t be playing any games this side of X-mas.

This might be a longshot, but I am considering running an army with 3x Baal preds. That probably sounds horrible, but I´ll give em a try. The increased range for the FSC combined with the doctrines might make them viable in an armour heavy list still packing dreads for the BA cc goodness. Remember that even BA flyers may intervene with the new stratagem "Unbrideled Ardour"(might be spelled wrong) and that might mess up someones plans.

And since I wont have time to try it out, I´ll have to pass the ball over to you...

The terrain and table....

SWg1.jpg

Wolfy and BA set up- with Wolves going first.

swg2.jpg

BA first turn engaging head on.  (I opted for the more fun thing to send Smashy off to the Ven dread at the back, rather than two take out two birds. THought it would have made a more interesting game.
swg3.jpg

Bird goes back to try sort out the Smashy- but fails....gets counter charged...but smashy whiffs.  Wolves SMASHING through BA lines
swg4.jpg

Turn 3 kicks in, and BA step up.
swg5.jpg

Fighting to the end...

routing the SW forces....

Dang Mort!

First and foremost, awesome models and table! Credit to you both!

So that turn three with the assault doctrine active, that's a game changer if you routed the wolves with it!

Cheers buddy.  Yeah, look, i'm trying to redesign and rethink my list from the ground up.  I think there are a LOT of options for BA now.   I think that the ability for our guys to have so many attacks at ap1 in turn 3 is amazing.

People are saying T3 is too late - and for a typical alppha, theyre right.  So, if you have your heavy hitters going at it alpha style- all good, but where i think the BA shine is how the Echoes Doctrine elevates us to something really strong with our *basic* units- and that's key.  Good players will be ignoring your random troopers and neutralizing hard threats...but if the basic randoms become hard threats, thats great.

I think you may find pods and rhinos making a comeback.   Im not 100% sold on Impulsors, yet, because, while they keep the occupants safe, they just dont transport enough guys to be a massive threat - that being said veterans + turn 3 may be different. Heck, even Reivers will do well in there.

As an example - 5 stalker intercessors charged Arjac 2+/3++  - they killed him.  Not unluckily either.  They had 22 attacks turn 3, AP1 and +1 to wound ....that's mental from 5 dudes in the backline.

That's what I'm thinking of doing too.

I'm limited in my AT options but not in playstyle or my CC options.

It's why I've been rereading BoB over and over and just thinking of my various units and how each can be utilized to maximum effect.

It's an exciting time because I dont find these rules force us into a playstyle and thus they wont have an easy counter. Or so I hope!

What i am curious about is what we can do with drop pods right now. Either normal pods with vanvets/chaplain, dc + chaplain, sternguard or company vets, dreads....

Any thoughts?

For that list mort, any chance to swap something for a third HS so you have brigade CP?

Grav Devs are a possibility now that we have the Gravitic Amplification Stratagem. We don't do it as well as IHs but I think if you can get a cheap Captain nearby for rerolls to-Hit, it looks pretty viable.

The good thing is that its 24" range makes it hard to screen against. You can usually pick somewhere within range of a juicy target without too much difficulty. With decent rolling, you should be able to kill a Russ (or similar) with one volley or maul a Knight or similar target.

The question is if that won't be too pricey for what they do. Every time my mind goes: but i can have VV/DC/SG for that haha
