I’m looking to start a tyranids army that is melee focused and was wondering if some veterans could help me build a 2k point list or help me with what units are good.
All help is appreciated and thank you in advance!!

I'm kind of in the same boat. Got started with the Bioswarm box, and the ease of painting with contrast paints has me super excited to get something together myself. Have you worked out any of your list?
Personally, I'm kind of interested in a handful of concepts myself. Genestealers, Tyranid Warriors, Old One Eye and a powerful group of melee Carnifexes, and the Tyrannocyte carrying an acid spray Tyrannofex. Kraken for everything so far.

If your looking for a melee orientated list, then genestealers in a kraken detachment is the best starting place. Take them in units of 16-20. You want to keep the unit above 10 for the extra attacks.
Add a broodlord for the +1 to hit rolls and provide psychic and synapse support.
Add swarm lord for hive commander (move twice) in order to get a first turn charge. He can get into combat himself later in the game and deal wreck peoples day.
Old one eye is an absolute power house. Use smaller bugs to escort him and keep him protected by the character key word.
These components make a strong melee starting point. But it would be wise to add some fire support, hive guard are our other MVP unit and you seldom see a competetive tyranid list without them.
Thats if you want a competitive army, but the biggest advice id say is do what ever you enjoy. Our models are glorious so just run the units that make you enjoy the game.
