Chaos Champion equipment loadout

This was something I noticed while skimming through the Codex. I have an old Aspiring Champion built with a combi-plasma and power sword. Is that still a legal loadout or not? I'd like to know before I build any more Aspiring Champions.

I know the second part of the Champion equipment list says ''One of the champion's weapons can be chosen from the following list,'' which was in the FAQ for the old Codex. I'm not sure if that means I can or not as the wording seems a bit unclear here.

I'm not sure what you're asking. There are different aspiring champions for almost every infantry unit and they have their wargear options stated on every datasheet.

I am speaking about the standard Troops Chaos Space Marine Aspiring Champion. The Aspiring Champion can trade their boltgun and bolt pistol for Champion Equipment.

In the armory, the Champion Equipment is divided into two sections. The first section lists a variety of pistols and close combat weapons. The rules in this part state “The Champion can take up to two weapons from the following list”.

The Champion Equipment has a second section that contains the combi-weapons of the armory. This section has a heading that states: “One of the Champion’s weapons can be chosen from the following list,’’.

In this case, does this mean that the champion can only take a single combi-weapon and nothing else? Or can I for example, take both a power sword and combi-plasma? I think it might be the latter, but the wording is rather vague and unclear to me.

No, it means that if you take one of the comb-weapons, you can only take 1 weapon from the pistol & CCW list.  That's what the language "One of the Champion's weapons" means.

So basically, the champion can only have 2 weapons, of which only one can be from the list containing the combi-weapons.

There's an Iron Hand on the cover art of Wrath of Iron dual-wielding bolters against Daemonettes.

Just saying. It can happen.

That's a loyalist though, and they get all the toys. ;)
