Here is the second article for the day!

This is the final part of my 4-part "after-action" report. I also talk about what my favorite Maelstrom of War mission is and why.  I do have a clear favorite!

Continuous improvement can be found here: https://overwhelmingodds40k.com/after-action-report-30k-40k-mechanicum-vs-adeptus-custodes-part-4-of-4/

My analysis of the deployment types and zones is complete for the Khorne army.

Come see how your decisions compare to mine.  This is an excellent article that really walks you through my mindset and perspective.  Don't miss it!

Read this first if you haven't had a chance to at least look, ponder, and determine what deployment type and zone you would take for this army:

https://overwhelmingodds40k.com/tactical-considerations-battlefield-analysis-by-you/

 - Then -

Compare and contrast your choices with mine: https://overwhelmingodds40k.com/tactical-considerations-battlefield-analysis-by-me-this-time/

Leave a comment if you like the new format of "you analyze first, then I reveal my analysis later that day".

I am still accepting content suggestions too!

Lastly, I haven't forgot about the "Compare & contrast" queue, Chapter Approved missions other than Maelstrom of War,  or the ITC breakdown articles either.  They are coming...

Haven't read the second article yet while I make this analysis, I'll edit after I have. I'd already pick the first deployment zone you showed for the Khorne army. Any army that's effectively just gonna REEEEEEEEEE up the field wants to start as close to the opponent as possible.

AdMech's harder, they're a gunline, they want to be pretty far from that Khorne army. Maybe that third deployment down for distance, and then maneuver into good cover and fortress spots?

You are absolutely right, but consider more aspects as well.  Really leverage the deployment types in conjunction with objective placement and synergy with Characters, plus mission rules.  Layers upon layers upon layers of benefit.

I'm trying to teach how to create massive benefit rather than just ideal scenarios.

My analysis of the deployment types and zones is complete for the Adeptus Mechanicus army.

The deployment type and zone I pick is merciless.  It has layers upon layers of benefit for the Adeptus Mechanicus.  It is detrimental to assault armies as well.  I was shocked by how much.

Also, side note: I really recommend the "Open War" cards just for the deployment types alone.  Everything else is just extra, bonus, awesome content.  I will have to do an article on just them!

Fantastic wealth of material here; and a really great angle to take. If you’re still looking for ideas, I’d be really interested in what sort of missions/objectives there are in modern military actions, and how (if?) they relate to the missions we play in 40k.

A lot of my (limited!) understanding of warfare is couched in ancient, Napoleonic or WWI terms of objectives – claim that hill, hold that line and so forth – and so I’d be very grateful to get an insight into what modern forces, both conventional and not, are tasked with doing.

Wow!  I had not even thought about looking at Warhammer 40K in a reverse perspective.  That is a phenomenal idea.  I could absolutely make military correlations and go through the entire regiment of creating a real-life military mission, step by step, while making it relevant to 40K.  I really like this idea and I could go way down the rabbit hole.  Expect an article within the week.  This is the type of fun and informational content that breaks up all the analysis and graphics and let's me capture/transfer my experience and knowledge on the subject matter.

You win the internet for today, good Sir!

Come download a free set of forms that allow you to track and annotate all things in a game of Warhammer 40K.

This should help so many people to have a wealth of information post-game that will enable them to improve their skills, analyze their patterns of behavior, and see trends in decisions.  It can be as detailed and comprehensive as you want it to be.  Take simple notes, or go crazy like me and document the entire battle.

You can download the file and read the article here: https://overwhelmingodds40k.com/free-after-action-report-template-to-use-during-your-games/

Here are previews of the forms:

As always, make your battles as immersive and glorious as possible. Take photos for the memories and Grim Dark atmosphere. Stop, look, and appreciate all the effort you put into bringing this universe to life. Admire the miniatures. Trust me, it is always worth a few minutes and arm’s length is too far to truly enjoy the view.

Couldn't agree more – that hellscape is looking lovely (well, scary – but you know what I mean)!

I promised to analyze the other missions in the Chapter Approved 2019 book.  Today, you can see the results of that in the 1st part of my "Modern Military vs. Warhammer 40K" series.  The focus is on "Eternal War" missions.

I am still working on the graphics that compliment this article.  Expect them shortly.  You are going to definitely want to read this article.

You will walk away from this article with new insights and knowledge.  I guarantee it.

Check out Part 1 here --> https://overwhelmingodds40k.com/modern-military-vs-warhammer-40k-part-1/

Apologist,

Here is the article that I think answers your question in the most comprehensive way.  It does have relevant 40K application by giving tremendous context to "forging the narrative".  I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed reminiscing!

"Forge that narrative", here --> https://overwhelmingodds40k.com/extra-content-modern-military-missions-vs-40k-eternal-war-missions/

If anyone else would like to see more of this kind of "tangential to 40K" content, post a comment and let me know.  I give the readers what they want to see and read! Some content might only appeal to a few, but I won't know that unless you let me know.  Maybe a lot of the community enjoys this content.  It really helps when I get feedback so I know to author more or less of certain content.  Thanks in advance,

V/r,

Dan
