Chapters doing campaigns together

Hey folks,

I've got some questions for people that know more about the fluff than I do.

1. Do chapters sometimes do campaigns with other chapters?

2. Do chapters that do campaigns together sometimes alter their paint scheme, to give credit to these campaigns?

3. Do chapters let other chapter's marines ride in their vehicles?

I'm asking because I'm still undecided which decals to put on my yellow marines (which I've been playing as IF since I started to collect them). So I've been wondering, if I could paint some of my marines as Black Templar, and then paint some of my vehicles black and put fists and maltese crosses on my vehicles (on the yellow ones too), so I could use them for both IF and BT.

1. Yes, Imperial Crusades are huge endeavours that every armed force in the Imperium wants to be part of and can have several chapters sending a representative force to fight in that Crusade. Damocles Crusade had several, including the Raven Guard and White Scars. There's also the larger warzones like Armageddon and Cadia which had several thousands of Astartes and even in smaller conflicts there's plenty of instances of Chapters fighting together.

2. It can happen, not sure how normal it is but there is an instance I know of which is the Declates Crusade in which a Black Templar force came to aid a Crimson Fist force that was hunting Orks, they joined forces and defeated the enemy and to commemorate the event the Declates Crusade veterans adopted a red fist and the Crimson Fists wore black crosses. So yeah, I imagine if two Chapters fight together they would share relics or insignia to honor and celebrate their brotherhood.

3. Maybe if they are friendly enough or part of the same lineage.

WH40K is a huge setting, do what you want because as the intro to the setting goes "You will not be missed" ;)  and with enough justification just about anything can go, thats the beauty of this setting and its massive scale.

Also, when no single Chapter in the area has the available resources to resolve a certain mission, they'll form a Strike Force comprised of the available assets from each under a single commander.

While on Campaign/Crusade, most Imperial forces will have a single unifying "Campaign Badge" added to their Uniforms/Armour/Vehicles as appropriate. Veterans of these engagements who have performs exceptional fears will often retain these badges longer term.

When marines crusade together they appoint one officer to be in overall command, in the Badab war books from FW this office was called the Magister Militum.  In citadel games everything is so variable you don't have to call him that though.

I think using each other's rhinos would be very unusual and some chapters would forbid it all the time.  Aircraft might happen more often.  The Hawk Lords have a permanent unit called the "talon wing" which is a group of pilots that are on loan from other chapters so they can learn from the Hawk Lords' excellent pilots.  In that case there'd be things like Hawk Lord's thunderhawks transporting Hawk Lord units, but the marine pilot would be in different colors.
