What to use as Ruinstorm Daemons?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Wondering what Frater here use as regular daemons of the ruinstorm? Obviously there's the usual troops from the 4, but I get the feeling Ruinstorm Daemons are more generic than any that are dedicated to one of the 4. Think the Iron warriors of the Daemon world.

I've got some Warcry Furies as a winged troops:

I was thinking of chainrasps as another (mainly because here in the UK you can currently get 10 of them for £3) thoughts?

Anyone else want to add? not just troops, anything really!

Thanks for the link, seems I'm not that all original then ;)

I was thinking with the chainrasps of converting the heads/arms with spares from the daemonette/bloodletter range, to give them a more daemonic feel.

Also the AoS range has some other good minis, archaons dragon (as mentioned in the other post:

Then there's the jabberslythe:

The cockatrice is a nice mini too:

The slaughter brute:

I think with a little conversion the glaibestalkers could work, though I was planned a mechanicus conversion with them:

But would they look like a coherent army? Is a Daemon army meant to look coherent?

Are there any I'm missing from the range that would fit?

I think the Jabberslythe and Coackatrice are both perfect for use as daemons. I think with consistency, wou would probably expect a strong common theme, as daemons tend to manifest themselves in a fashion that relates to the fears and imaginings of those in the locality. Having said that, the warp makes little sense and the only constant is change...

10 for 3£?

Here are 10 for 2€!

You could use terrorgheists as shirkes, bone giant as behemoth/lord and the winged buff guys as brutes

It's a taste thing, but Nighthaunt have never struck me as a particularly good match for DotR, probably because they are spoopy ghosties rather than madness-inducing monstrosities. Their low price tag and ease of painting probably accounts for why they're such a popular choice and at the risk of sounding like a massive gatekeeper, it kinda looks... cheap?

Hi all,

you should have a look at Wyrd miniatures, either for Malifaux or The Other Side. ome great models there. And the quality of castings is at least as good as GW. Very detailed miniatures.

Reaper Bones Series is another good source. That material is fantastic. Inexpensive, easy to paint and highly durable. Almost no assembly required. THere are some great sculpts there.

See, I think that a Ruinstorm army shouldn't be consistant and that having a couple of Nighthaunts in a basic daemon unit would be fine. They are pretty much the ghosts/reapers of human myth and it would make sense for daemons to appear like that as they are what most people would think of when walls start pulsing and statues and doors start bleeding.

Cheers guys, appreciate the feedback!

Any other thoughts on models? I was thinking about the Warcry chickens, but can't figure out how to make them decent looking

Replace the wings with multiple sets of arms, and maybe remove or paint mock eyes into their frills? Spare horror/flamer arms could do the trick
