Deathguard questions

So, I might be able to aquire a "starting death guard" force, in addition to this I already have some older death guard models and my old force of plague zombies from my ancient lost and the damned army. I also have tons of chaos stuff I could add in. However I have some questions... If I take CSM in a separate detachment and choose he mark of nurgle what does that do for me exactly? There are no special things going on with nurgle in the CSM codex, it just says death guard are different go see death guard codex. So what benefits do CSM get with the mark of nurgle? Just the nurgle keyword? Can someone explain what you get with the mark, how do you soup with CSM? I am not looking for a full death guard, more for a nurgle centric/themed army with an emphasis on death guard. Basically a mainly death guard with some CSM nurgle marked backup. Can someone explain some of the ways I can achieve this and how the two would interact.

Thanks!

The MoN is only a Keyword, so most DG effects do not work on CSM. The other way around it looks better, as for example CSM spells are only on "Heretic Astartes" (CSM Codex 1.0 could have changed.) models, so DG can benefit from it. Stratagems work only on units in the same codex or units from other codices that share the same name. For example you can use "Tide of Traitors" to recycle DG Cultists, although DG dont have that stratagem themselves.

Daemons have way more interactions with DG/CSM as they are keyed on "Daemon" and "Allegiance". Many models in both Codices have these.

Most people use Detachements from different legions to specialise the Units within. IW for Vehicles and Obliterators, NL for Raptors/Warp Claws, WE for Berzerkers and so on. But the direct interactions are limited, I assume, by design.

Thank you for answering, so there really is no benefit from choosing nurgle on CSM? Then why would anyone choose it? Why is it an option? Just trying to wrap my head around this.

There's no direct benefit like there used to be, the main benefit is that you open up the use of strategems and psychic powers for this unit. i.e a CSM sorcerer with the mark of nurgle gains access to Miasma of Pestilence.

Well, as I said, there are benefits on anything with <Mark of Chaos> and Daemon, as these benefit from all these Daemon Buffs. Then there are the Icons (Khornes is pretty handy) and some Stratagems (Double Fighting for Khorne and Double Shooting for Slaanesh). Sorcerors benefit from being Tzeentch (Double Casting if I remember correctly) as well as the Marked Spells.

But the combination of DG and MoN CSM offers not very much, as for reasons only known by GW, DG abilities are mostly keyed behind the Death Guard Keyword. I personally play a Nurgle army composed of DG. WB and Daemons (if I fiend all I have) as I really enjoy the Daemon interactions.
