Back in the last year of 7th edition I started to get back into 40k after taking a break most of my teenage life. I started a Crimson Fists army and also a Dark eldar. 8th rolled round and DE were my absolute jam, they were great to play and were a lot of fun in the index. Long story short, I'm coming back to them with a new scheme. I really like the Sons of Horus scheme and with the new SoH green I thought this would be my perfect opportunity to give this a go. I'm going to have to strip a lot of the models I had painted but that's not really the end of the world for me, while they're not badly painted they're definitely not up to my current standard and I'm not jamming with the colours as much. Here's the first test model:

Not finished at all but it's a start and only took me about an hour to get to that point. My plan for vehicles is to have them mostly black and then have armour panels in the SoH green which should look pretty good and also not absolutely kill me trying to paint the majority of a large model with a layer paint. I'm not sure what to call the army yet but maybe something to do with the sea

C&C is very welcome

Looking great so far- can't wait to see more! Love the pose.

Welcome back. I'm just starting my DE, and it's an army I've always wanted, even back in the days of the very weak original plastics- the background just really appealed to me.

What's your favourite of the subtypes- Kabals, Wych Cults or Haemonculus Covens?

Thanks man!

The current DE range are my second most favourite model range just behind GSC, they're easily some of GWs most consistent and best models even though they're coming up to 10 years old.

My favourite sub-type has to be Kabals, they're the go to for me and even though they're somewhat spiky they're ridiculously clean. Although Helions make Wych cult a very close second for me. Part of me really wants to run 60 Helions in an outrider and zoom them up the board. Maybe one day, baby steps for now.

I've finished the last guy off bar a few small touchups:

I can easily replicate this and really look forward to painting some more of these up.

C&C always appreciated.

Thanks Calidan! Next up was the rest of the squad, after this it's the Archon who is in piece at the moment until I paint him seperately. Here's the rest of the squad:

Love that last pic- the red slashes across the eyes are very cool. My project is Wyches- gotta assemble and paint 10 basic wyches from two different cults. Going to make'm duke it out in the arena to decide which Cult earns the right to grow. Meant to be further ahead by now, but I'm juggling projects. I have finished building a starter arena.

Anyway, great work!

Well I have to say that the color choice is spot on. A good idea for DE. Very hard to find a scheme to fit them, I know. Got my DE when they were released at the end of 5th. Last summer I finally got my scheme after many failures. 2 thumbs up, perfect

Thanks man, I think I got the glowing eyes down now. You should put your colour schemes up on here, it might give you motivation, I'd definitely be interested to see biggrin.png

It's the third attempt at finding a scheme that works for me, as I said I have a lot to strip the paint from as I painted a chunk of the army in a scheme that I don't like as much anymore. There's nothing wrong with the scheme, I just much prefer these darker colours plus my painting has improved since.

Next up on the painting table: more Kabalites! I want to get the scheme absolutely down and also work through the infantry I have, I will also post progress on the Archon.

I like the colours, as mentioned suit DE very well. The red accents in particular really pops so that was a great idea thumbsup.gif I'm assuming you'll use the same scheme for the vehicles? If so along with the prows and the like I think there's some opportunity to expand upon your planned sea theme. Eyes on the side of Raiders and the like ancient ships could be good, or maybe something a bit more Eldary and stylised waves? smile.png
