Greetings from California, folks!
I was introduced to the hobby way back in middle school, when my art teacher at the time showed off his Space Marine army. I was instantly hooked by what I saw, and began my rapid descent into Warhammer 40k obsession. Upon exploring the Games Workshop website and looking at the various faction designs, I decided that the T'au would be my first army. This was shortly after the 4th edition codex dropped, and the cover art featuring the battlesuit played a big part in younger me's decision.
(Un)fortunately for younger me, I in no way had the budget to start collecting the models. I made a few eBay purchases here and there, but never made any particular progress when it came to modeling. Although the model line was my favorite and what helped pull me in, it was the lore that kept me engaged. I studied the lore behind every faction so I could understand the setting as a whole. I remember going through phases where I switched my interest from T'au to Necrons to Eldar to Guard and Marines, but I never stayed in one place for long. I'm honestly glad for this, as I feel it gave me a much better understanding of the setting overall.
Years have gone by since then, and while I never did invest heavily into the physical side of 40k I did a lot of army planning, conversion brainstorming, and sketching for when I eventually got started - "I'll build an army this year for sure!" was a common statement for me growing up. I've perused sites like this one, DakkaDakka (I've have an account over there for a few years now), and Advanced Tau Tactica for ages, admiring the amazing work I saw and aspiring to that level of skill. I've witnessed a lot of lore changes, even more models released, four editions of the game come out, and enough salt to season my meals for the rest of my life. Through all of it, though, my love for this particular brand of crazy-awesome grimdark insanity never waned.
Now that I'm almost done with college and ACTUALLY have some steady disposable income, I feel the time is right for me to commit to building up my physical forces. I've settled on a small force of Primaris to start me off since I'm fond of their psuedo-truescale appearance and to build up my skills before committing to more ambitious projects that have been in the works for years so I can do them justice. Updates will no doubt be few and far between, but I'm confident they'll happen eventually.
Thank you for being such an amazing community, and looking forward to actively participating!
