Thanks Dos! :)

Yep, I'm working on a counts-as DW team painted up as Iron Gods, but I've put them on hold until I've got the new Astartes list from PN in hand (apparently the DW have made out pretty well from the new list, so I'm looking forward to having a read!)

Speaking of which, I'm happy to say I've received my copy of the PN book today!

Having looked through the Astartes list, I'm ok with the price changes for the extra Wound.

My Emperor's Blade will have to drop the 1 basic Tac Marine Sister to keep them at 125pts, but that's ok.

Also, if I ever want to play a Commander game, I can bring that Sister back in, count the Priest shown before as a Primaris Chaplain and downgrade the Co Vet with Flamer to a Tac Gunner with Flamer; that will bring me to 200 exactly!

DW seem to have come out really well (which is fair enough as they needed a boost) so I'm gonna get moving on finishing up my Iron Gods!

Hmm, the previous post seems like a very long time ago, doesn't it...? :P

Anyway, finished my next Kill Team, Iron Gods Pirates (DW counts-as)

The team was built with 6 members for KT18 but I've decided to focus on building the minis that could be used as a team for KT20, so only 5!

DW Warrior Fighter with Thunderhammer and Storm Shield

DW Warrior Heavy Gunner with Infernus Heavy Bolter

(I think some of these loadouts might have to be fudged slightly to fit with what the compendium allows, but should be close enough...)

Hmm, my current idea for my next KT:

https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/367924-index-astartes-war-dogs/

This is one of my DIYs, an Ultima Founding Primaris Chapter who are organised as smaller Patrols rather than Companies, operating solely from Rapid Strike Vessels and specialising in void combat and boarding actions…

…they are perfect for Into the Dark-style games!

(I will do them on bases with lots of plasticard deck details and techy-looking greeblies from the ol' bitz box?)

Intercession Kill Team: War Dogs
Chapter Tactics: Durable, Rapid

Assault Intercessor Sgt
Magnets to swap between:
Right hand: Heavy Bolt Pistol, Hand Flamer, Plasma Pistol, Bolt Rifle (to use as regular Intercessor Sgt)
Left hand: Chainsword, Power Sword, Power Fist
Tilting Shield(3)

Assault Intercessor Grenadier
Heavy Bolt Pistol, Chainsword, Frag and Krak Grenade
(Grenade-throwing arm and Chainsword, holstered Pistol)

Intercessor Gunner
Auto Bolt Rifle with Aux GL, Combat Blade(1)

Intercessor
Bolt Rifle with Vengeance Scope(3) and Blessed Bolts(3)
(Stalker bitz?)

2 x Intercessor/Assault Intercessor
Magnets to swap between:
Auto Bolt Rifle or
Heavy Bolt Pistol and Chainsword

Yeah, I don't have a huge amount of experience with them, but I'm thinking I should have sufficient spare arms and shoulder pads so that it can be complete arm swaps rather than just hands, which will hopefully be less fiddly?

I think 2mm wide x 1mm thick magnets should be strong enough... but if anyone does have more practical experience, I'd be happy to hear it?

I don't have the minis for it yet, but I've got loads of spare regular Intercessor arms, so a box of Assault Intercessors should do it?

3mmx2mm are stronger for shoulder magnets so less likely to droop/fall off when playing - definitely easier doing there than wrists! High strength 2mmx1mm ones do still work though, but I save those for gun-swap wrists (or 1mmx1mm for really small ones). Don't forget to do a small pilot hole - I usually use a sharp knife tip - before you drill, so it makes the magnet hole where you want it and less likely to skid off. Doing the magnets before painting is also much safer for your paintjob. You can always mask them off with tape when priming, though it's usually not needed, they'll work through a couple of layers of paint just fine.

And once you've done the first arm, you can use that as the 'template' for the others, so you have the same polarity for all your arms which is a good habit to get into; one pole for the inner/body parts, and the other pole for outer/attached parts. Some people stick a couple of larger magnets to a piece of sprue and label them (inside/outside) so they can consistently do the same polarity every time. I use a similar idea, a 1" long cylinder magnet which is labelled; I just put the magnet I wish to apply onto the appropriate end, then put superglue in hole and stick the small magnet in the hole, let it set for a little bit and gently slide the cylinder off to the side. Easier than trying to do it with the side of a craft blade or from a stack.

Good news, managed to ebay a full 10-man multipart Assault Intercessor box for £26 inc postage... not too shabby, especially when you consider I only need 1 of the 2 5-man sprues you get in the box and I should be able to put the other one back on ebay!

Managed to make a start on the team, I'm using a spare Indomitus Lt as the base for the Squad Sgt.

Magnets galore, really happy with how well they've gone in!

Haven't added left shoulders as I'm considering getting some War Dogs ones designed and 3d printed...

So, a post-weekend update, I am ready for paint!

large.20221010_111149.jpg.f0a593cc9a5262

Left to right: Intercessor with AutoBR or Assault Intercessor, Intercessor Gunner with AutoBR and AuxGL, and Sgt with all the options!

large.20221010_111123.jpg.e800bb43e20b5a

and: Assault Intercessor Grenadier, Intercessor with BR (Scope and Shells), Intercessor with AutoBR or Assault Intercessor.

Very happy with how the magnets have worked out! Also, got some pads printed on Ebay (seller: crandall1987, if you're interested. They did a very nice job of them!)

Also, when the missus came home from doing the shopping she brought this too:

…so that was nice!

A small update, painting has started, most of the time so far spent on the bases:

large.20221018_162531.jpg.97d9b9d521ac15

Decided to just get some Sector Mechanicus rather than wait for the new void war ones to get released! Going for a fairly typical grungy/rusty look?

Hmm, trying to remember the order now... :laugh:

So, I think it was:

Undercoat black

Heavy drybrush with an off-white (tiny bit of yellow mixed in) to cover the upper surfaces.

Pick out the pipes/wires/hoses/metal beneath the grating in brown/orange/grey/Leadbelcher.

Give everything a wash of Agrax.

While still wet, used my finger to wipe away most of the wash on the flat plates so it's mostly just in the recesses. Let it dry.

Use a sponge to add weathering with Scorched Brown.

Same with a brighter orange (can't remember the name, newer one... might be Trollslayer?)

Add a few thin lines of Mithril Silver where metal bits are raised.

Another wash of Agrax.

Again, before it dries wipe most of it away from the flat panels.

I think that was about it?
