Aeronautica Imperialis: Taros

Recommended Posts

So there’s a rumour from Garro on FB about the LVO reveal:

So LVO has a studio preview in a couple of days, and I'm interested to see what they've got up their sleeves. As several game systems have cleared all their previewed models/releases.

Reminder this is a GW preview, not FW, so there won't be any 30k, or Resin previews.

I've got AoS picked as being the main event, with the 'Pointy Aelves' being the flagship Reveal, But I've had solid info saying Seraphon and the Sons of behemat (AoS giants) getting Battletomes in the very near future so they could show up as well.

Regarding Specialist Games, the same source has said that a Taros Campaign expansion will be coming soon for Aeronautica, which would indicate that T'au are the next faction joining that game. BloodBowl is also getting an Underworld Denizens team, but unsure if it will be fully new sculpts,or just a merged pack of the existing sprues for Goblins and Skaven, but they should be getting a Spike! magazine, dice, cards, and pitch for sure.

This source is a trusted one, who got me info regarding the plastic ZM scenery and the Slave to Darkness battletome ahead of their reveal/leaking. However until GW formally reveal them these are still rumours, so take a healthy amount of salt with it.

regarding 40K, imagine we'll see the pixelated Primaris skimmer and bikes, alongside some info for Psychic awakening book 6, and maybe 7+.

What are you all hoping to see?

Also some people have been digging on some shipping/logistics site that has accurately shown releases in the past (it’s things from China, so terrain, cards, books etc) and found some AI taros stuff, I think a game board was mentioned specifically.

So Tau are the next faction it would seem! I’m very excited for Tau. I’d love a plastic AI Manta, not sure how likely that is but we’ll see hopefully in about 21 hours!

It is very exciting news! Might want to correct the title though ;)

Will just repeat what I shared in the News and rumour thread about the general news:

Imperial Aeronautica: Taros (or Aeronautica Imperialis?) Would make sense as an expansion for the game, you would:

* Introduce the Tau Air Caste into the game
* Interesting new mission possibilities including an airborne campaign and an attack on a titan formation by aircraft
* Imperial Navy could get Valkyries introduced to complement said campaign
* Taros Campaign is already Forge World territory, and they've said they want to stay away from the post gathering storm setting to avoid treading on GW toes story wise.
* Taros does have a more under explored air war.
* Could get Space Marines if we're lucky?

To be fair I first saw this on social media where the poster had called it IA:Taros instead of AI:Taros so for a minute I thought it was a reprint of the FW Imperial Armour book updated for 8th edition.

My random thoughts on what planes might be in there:

Imperium:

The Lighting has been rumoured for a while.so could show up. As this is a smaller plane I think this will be 6 to a box like the dakkajet.

Valkyries, possiblity as a resin kit. This would make some of the missions much more viable for the imperium.

Tau:

Tiger shark and tiger shark AX-1-0 as the 2 bomber kits. I think the manta would be a bit too big compared to the marauders and Ork bombers.

The Barracuda AX-5-2 is an obvious choice fighter (same size as the thunderbolt and Ork fighter bomber, four to a box). And they remade the 40k version recently so should have CAD files for it to start with.

Then maybe a smaller aircraft, as I have a feeling the initial round of releases will have at least four plastic kits per race.

I'd prefer a remora kit but those might be too small unless they are 2 to a base. it could be a sun shark/razor shark dual kit to give more options, especially for a bomber.

I don't think we will see an Orca in this release as that's almost unarmed so a bit too specialized for an initial faction release.

What do other people think might be in there?

For Tau I think we'll see the Barracuda, with the Tiger Shark and Sun Shark as less likely. I actually think we're likely to get the Remoras too.

I'm theorizing that the Tau will be the 'autonomous weapons' faction. So lots of drones, Remoras, and AI guided missiles.

For the Imperium, Valkyrie in plastic seems likely. Lighting and Vulture in resin. (Assuming we ever get resin support.)

Lightning has got to be a plastic release at some point, its a mainline fighter like the Thunderbolt!

I actually think that makes it *less* likely to see a plastic release. (Unless/until Specialist Games go all-plastic.)

I recall from the original WHTV release stream with the FW/SG guys, they said they aimed to keep all the main stuff in plastic while making niche aircraft resin. What those are exactly remains to be seen but I'm guessing minimally armed transports which you need for scenarios but would never build a full squadron out of. Think Arvus Ligher or Aquila lander. Hopefully they'll come out alongside the new book.

They wouldn't confirm what they were working on but answered a few questions about IF they got to a particular aircraft, for example the Chaos Harbinger of the original game, they said that would be a plastic project ideally, I think the Lightning was mentioned too, I'd have to rewatch it. They also said that two resin aircraft had already been designed.

The lightning is a perfect release for the Imperial squadron leader who has everything. Build a whole new squadron in plastic. I think the only real question for the lightning is will it be the original or the new design.

I wonder what kinda ruleset the boxset comes with Full ones like the campaign or abridged like the starter

The book in the picture on the Warhammer Community web site looks a similar thickness to the Wings of Vengeance one, so I'm going with abridged.

The low-altitude rules in the campaign book sound potentially interesting ...

Is the content in the previous campaign book usable on any third party map or is it tied to the campaign cardboard mat?

The Rynn's World Air War campaign book assumes you're playing on a hex-grid, but that's about it.  If you're looking for a larger mat than one that comes in the starter set, Deep Cut Studios do some for Blood Red Skies (the battlefield one looks best), which they'll put a hex-grid on for you if you ask (disclaimer: I've never used them, and it comes from Lithuania, so postage, etc).  If you're playing with a group of "like-minded individuals", converting AI from hexes isn't too difficult (multiply all distances by 2", and all turns are in increments of 60 degrees).  Does that address what you were asking?

Apparently not

Touché, sir!

I'll pay my five bucks at the debrief.

Very excited this turned out to be true, though glad I've got time to finish my current stuff

Like the Top Gun style promo a bit more than the WW2 newsreel style trailers for the first release tbh.

Interesting that the new imperial cards come with Astra Militarum as well as Navy Cards. Just for the Valkyrie pilots maybe?

Looks like (from the starter set) that the lightnings come in 3 per sprue, and have multilaser or lascannon variants. The Valkyrie seems to build Valks and Vendetta gunships.

It also looks like the Tigershark has the Rocket Boosters rule.

Noticed the Astra Militarum bit too. I'm wondering if it's just a marketing decision (since there isn't a 'official' Imperial Navy faction), or if we'll see IG flying regiments like the Phantine.

So anyone else think we will be seeing a new imp/tau ground assets box and a new cardboard board for Talos to replace the rynns world one?

There’s definitely a new board, it was the Taros board that was found on the manifest/shipping site thing originally.
