I was told to come here and post my Thulsa Kane.  I love the Badab War and sorry I was late to the party.

The Red Hour, 911.M41

Honor bound were we to you Lufgt Huron; a blood debt to be paid for past sacrifices...  Your machinations were unknown in their entirety to us, but our resolve was strong and we stood firm in our actions in supporting who we perceived was noble...  We erred.

Our oath to you has been violated and only Astral Claw blood will sate the call of vengeance.  Your purging is now at hand, we shall see who among you still fears death...

Already commented in your thread, but I can't get enough of this guy! He inspired me so much, I started working on my Mantis Warriors again.

EDIT: Well, I got quite a bit more done today than I had been expecting to do! I still haven't painted anything, but I picked up some new primer and will hopefully get up early enough to beat the desert heat and get some priming done on these guys.

First off, I finished adding cabling and finishing touches to a whopping TEN marines! I'm super pleased with them, and really looking forward to putting them on the table. I still haven't got much of a plan for how to use them in Killteam, but that's a project for another day. So, here's the finished ten:

gallery_74400_16105_306014.jpg

I also began (or in some cases continued) work on a further eight marines, who are missing mostly the finishing touches of backpacks and heads. I'll have to get around to casting more up, which is really a pain in the butt, but I love the weird look this force has too much to do anything else. So, here's the next eight guys on the workbench:

gallery_74400_16105_193206.jpg

It's been quite a while since I took a good look at my original Mantis Warrior force; I spent a lot of time in 8th playing with my Thousand Sons instead. Still, out of a bit of nostalgia I checked out my old plog on Warseer, which is somehow still in the archives, and got a little bit of inspiration. A couple hours of kitbashing later, a dig around in the old army box, aaand...

gallery_74400_16105_196472.jpg

I've thrown together some homages to the figures from my old force that stood out in my memory. That's Sergeant Azrac on the left, Sergeant Ferenc next to him, and Brother Sovek with the grenade. If the marine on the far right ever had a name, it's not recorded in any of my plogs that are still active, and I've long since lost the text file i kept everyone's names in to begin with. I've decided after some deliberation that he's Brother Manu now, and I'm quite pleased the new kits allowed me to replicate his pose.

Finally, I also buckled on my bravest pair of trousers and set about attaching together all the many, many disparate pieces of the man himself, Ahazra Redth. It was such an undertaking to come up with a conversion I was happy with, that I felt lived up to the feel of my old figure, and I'm very pleased with the end result. I've ordered another big Eldar rock for him to stand on from a bits site, but other than that he's basically exactly as I picture him post-Rubicon Primaris (or before, since the idea with this force is to have plausible suspension of disbelief that allows them to function as truescale Mk X in variant Mk VI plate):

gallery_74400_16105_204914.jpg

One of the things I like best about this iteration of the Dust Prophet is how bulky the figure is; he really looks like an ancient Astartes that isn't to be messed with. I felt like this (slightly blurry, sorry!) photo really captured that thickness across the shoulders:

Thanks for reading all this way! Sorry the pictures are so large; I wish I knew how to encode them as a thumbnail-sized image. Really excited to get some paint on these guys, and would love to hear thoughts. How have my fellow Badab War vets been getting on? Anyone had any exciting progress?

Man you got super busy really fast lol!  Glad to see some additional work for Badab!  Also, some Star Phantoms I had kind of already started but I figure I pick back up.

Spent a little time painting today; wanted to get a color test on my least favorite marine of the bunch to try out some contrast paints. I haven't painted in about a year and I totally felt rusty; fairly pleased with the result. It's a little more vibrant than my old scheme--no drybrushing in this scheme, so they look less "dusty."

Question: Do you think the yellow of the head/pauldrons is too bright? I can't decide if I like it this way or not. It's not too far from the old recipe, but still throwing me off. I'm posting two pictures with slightly different lighting to see if it makes a difference.

Not necessarily a kill team, but I recently painted a Howling Griffon in night world battle livery.

I still have a few space marine heroes left unpainted so I might have a go at another Badab war chapter at some point, leaning towards Astral Claws at the moment, or maybe Silver Templars.

Wow, that Howling Griffon is glorious! I love the texture you've achieved on his face, it's so expressive!

On an unrelated note, congrats to my fellow Badab players who play Red Scorpions, Minotaurs, Astral Claws, and Carcharodons--you are officially model-supported enough that FW have deigned to give you Successor Chapter Tactic suggestions in their new book. As for the rest of us: let's get weird with it! :)

Yellow seems to stand out a bit, maybe mute it a little?

Beautiful!  I love that scheme for HGs.  I have plans to do something similar, basically a force that faces my Executioners.

I started working on some more but ive lost interest in them as the scheme is pretty hard to get correct. Ive moved on to 30k thousand sons for my red marine fix. Maybe il go back to them later.

Well, I found the Upgrades so here's the Salamanders True-Scale Kill-Team before painting:

UHRfCLu.jpg

From left to right: Two bolter marines, one Flamer, Sergeant with Combi-Melta and Thunder Hammer, Sternguard Veteran with Heavy Flamer and Vanguard Veteran (served in Deathwatch) with Thunder Hammer

Once the weather stops being temperamental (was raining all week, then snow on Friday, clear on Saturday and now it's raining again) I'll be able to prime them

Adrax is missing from the website, so... I might not be able to have Pellas Mir'san finished anytime soon.

I recently hopped back onto Instagram after a lengthy hiatus and stumbled across this nifty image by Dennis Klothen (@the_iron_within):

med_gallery_45765_12339_2536.jpg

I then remembered this thread and that I had abandoned it for a while...

It's fantastic to see some of you still going at it and contributing to this project of sorts. I'm blown away by the crisp painting and overall quality of @blackbabyjesus' Howling Griffon, the old-school vibes of and gritty paint job on @Naryn's Mantis Warriors, and excited to see @Armond return after so long with his Executioners! :biggrin.:

I'm myself contemplating to get a Kill Team assembled and painted by the end of the year, now that I have a bit more time, mojo, and security in terms of employment. The big question is: which Chapter?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing more progress from all and I wish you well. :smile.: With a bit of luck, I'll be back soon with some pics of my own.

Hi folks,

I've put together a few Nova Marines. The aim for these was to keep the true scale elements of the Primaris bodies, but to convey the feeling of some older armour marks.

lap6yTul.jpg

This marine has Mk VI legs and a carved down chestpiece.

uzg0Fe4l.jpg

The Sergeant was a bit more involved and has Mk IV legs and a Mk III torso.

jDUMPdTl.jpg

As an interesting side note, one of the old backpacks from Dark Vengeance works perfectly as a Nova Marine pack.

Hoping to get some paint on these before Year End.

C&C welcome.
