Space marine heroes

It's no guarantee but I think the last couple series showed up in the rest of the world about a year after they came out in japan.

I'm hoping these guys start selling outside japan by the end of the year. I'd love to get a few of them. I couldn't wait on the plague caster, I ended up buying him on warpbay.

I think your best bet is ebay. If they come to the rest of the world most likely will be random, where as the box is not random currently. Generally the box runs 60 bucks for 6 models which is not toooooo bad compared to the normal plague marine box.

I was thinking same thing, if they release in europe, the price will be close to the same as ebay no?

If you buy a full box from Japan, you're guaranteed to get one of each of the 6 'normal' squad; no duplicates or 'specials' in this series thankfully, unlike previously. They're blind boxed individually though, so if you buy them one at a time, no way to know which of the 6 you'll get.

The only access to the plaguecaster is in the paint set currently. Given I already have all the paints I need, £60 + postage is a little steep for him for me personally!

They have a habit of changing things up when a series see a wider release, including changing the selection of minis, so the plaguecaster may become more easily available later.

I did order the Japan boxset, as they're not likely to get much cheaper when they do see a wider release and they are pretty cool.

Did the Japanese series 1 & 2 sets only have 6-7 miniatures as well? Because when I bought the terminator box on amazon at Christmas I got 10 miniatures in the box. Only one duplicate. So I’m basically asking will we get a few more different minis for series 3 than Japan got when they release worldwide?

I'm less familiar with series 1 as I didn't buy those, but IIRC a big 'rhino' display box in Japan had 24 blind boxes, and you got two of each of 12 sculpts.

With series 2 in Japan there were 6 terminator sculpts in blind boxes in a single display box, with one of each guaranteed per display box, with a 7th (the banner bearer) in the paint set.

Series 3 has followed the same pattern, with 6 guaranteed unique sculpts (in blind boxes) per display box + 1 (plaguecaster) in the paintset.

I believe there is anti-gambling legislation in Japan that means you have to get all the options in a single big box, though they can do 'mystery' boxes (e.g. the blanked out champion) - you only find out what's in it when you open the blind box, though you're guaranteed to get one per 'set'.

Obviously, they changed the setup for the worldwide release. For series 1, IIRC it changed to a display box of 12 blind boxes, but with only 9 sculpts and different odds for different models; the captain was only in 1/3 of display boxes, for example, leading to at least some dupes and a decent chance you'd not get all the sculpts.

For series 2 for the Rest Of World release, they removed one Japan sculpt (flamer guy) and added 3 new ones, so 7 sculpts in Japan and 9 in RoW.

e.g.

Removed from ROW release:

Added to ROW release:

They then did a display box of 10 blind boxes for the Rest of World release, but different odds of the 9 sculpts in the display box again; the banner terminator, who was a paintset exclusive in Japan, became a 1/30 chance (i.e. one per 3 display boxes on average), with the captain a 1/20 chance and a strong likelihood of multiple duplicates per 10 model display box.

If I was to hazard a guess, they'll do the same for series 3 when it does the Rest Of World release, and quite possibly change the sculpt selection around a little again.

In my case, I was able to pick up the Japan 6-box of series 2 terminators, plus the 3 new sculpts from an ebay seller for a good price. I wasn't prepared to pay silly money for the banner bearer in the Japan paint set or the blind box RoW release, so I only have 9 of the 10 possible sculpts.

Hopefully the plaguecaster will be be a bit more common than the terminator banner bearer, but if GW are evil they'll keep him as the 'super-rare' option again and it probably would have been cheaper to get him from Japan in a paintset...

I mean check out how much it costs to buy "Brother Darrago"  - this guy - and weep.

Or you could just be a super-jammy biscuit like Axineton and get all 9 available sculpts in just one Rest of World retail box! Some people were getting multiple dupes or even triples per box...

Axineton - if you get a spare flail when you do - hit me up :)  I've been tempted to grab the box from Japan, but I've not that sort of funds atm, I am just hoping that I can spend very little to get the few that I'm after (though I'd like them all) when they come over here in their inevitable random box purchase.

I'm honestly not a fan of them. The bare head versions have too much of a Lucius the Eternal vibe going on. My main gripe is their positioning with the legs where they come with their own bases, which I do not like on any model. The caster is definately better then the dark imperium one, but that's a pretty low bar. I like my converted one from the champion from dark imperium, the original caster and a bit of AoS bits better.

My friend got the 6 box on ebay with free shipping a while back for $60. His final verdict was he wasted his money and could have bought the DI ones for far less.

If you really have your heart set on them I would just get them if you can for around that price I mentioned instead of waiting. They could change it a little, and then if any were removed the old ones cost would go up I'm sure. It's $50 for the box of 7 on GW's site, $60ish for 6 isn't that bad for different sculpts if you don't want to convert your own.

@Putrid Choir - Did you have an image of your conversion from the champion?  I like the series 3 for being different sculpts, including an action posed grenadier and a choice of head / helmet option.  The caster does look sweet I'll agree but I have two spare FW ones never built.  The fact they included another Flail model (who's rare by virtue of the flail being a singleton in the boxset and expensive to find going spare) is a bonus.

But yep, the cost is prohibitive (with added customs/VAT etc), buying two normal boxsets and customsing them to all be different would be cheaper.

It's below the value for import duty (the threshold is £135 value), and the EU-Japan trade deal that eliminates most tariffs is now in effect for a year also. I'm not sure whether VAT is still applicable under the deal, but neither series 2 or my recent series 3 order were stopped by Customs for it. Obviously that's all subject to change come Jan 2021 (end of Brexit transition period, all EU-sourced trade deals cease to apply). So I paid about 50% more all told than the cost of a box of multipart plague marines from a discounter.

I just really like the character of the sculpts, not least as I'm so sick of the same DI 7. They're so much better than the squat, static easy-to-build 3 you see everywhere too. The bare heads aren't *that* great personally, but I do like the helmeted version for the most part, and head swaps are easy. I must admit, I will probably be spreading out the nurglings to other places a bit, they're just brilliant. But obviously personal opinion!

I just wish the plaguecaster was in the main 6 box, that would turn it from a good release to amazing.

Hey, are these guys head to head with Intercessors compared to normal DGuard, accounting for pose?

They're the same height as the DI/multipart plague marines, i.e. half a helmet shorter than primaris but taller (and much bulkier) than even newer mk 7 style sculpts. That said, the sculpted bases do add a couple of extra mm.

It's always nice to have varity, but we already have 7 from DI, 7 from the PM kit, 3 from the easy to build and 3 more from the reinforcements. That's 20 different sculpts right there for the same unit.

I made those 20 into 4 groups of 5 with two blight launchers each with the Noxious Blightbringers bell on all the champions, so no two look the same. I got another 7 DI I plan on making a melee squad with two flails. If the heroes ones ever come state side for cheap down the road I might pick them up, but I would have to cut off the sculpted bases.

Fair enough! I'll have to convert the DI or easy-to-build ones to stand using them (from familiarity) so that leaves the 7 from the multipart for me as I missed out on the plague brethren 3 at the time, so different bodies are welcome! My nurgle conversion skills need some work, there's a lot of detail on those bois.

The bases this time don't have the feet sculpted on thankfully (except for the plaguecaster IIRC), they just have footprints where the marine goes, so you can swap the bases with much less effort.

@Arkhanist that's good to know they are sperate! Death guard in general is all newer models with alot of detail, but at the same time are nurgle and supposed to look sick and slimy. I find they are a good faction to convert and hone your green stuff skills while practicing kit bashing. Very forgiving with your mistakes.

Ok mate no problem. I reckon these will be out around May time. I’m sure series 1 & 2 were released around then worldwide.
