Markings for your Superiors

How do you go about marking your Superiors? Do you paint them the same and just look for the chainsword or do you paint some thing different to mark them?

I was thinking about making the shoulder Flur a different color based on rank, White for Sisters, Black for Superiors, and Gold for Canonesses. but im not sure how that would look.

Another option could be the mask on the helmet, but not every model has a helmet ( and if you have a mostly old army you dont have a lot of options in the regard in any case)

For my OoOML detachment [all metal] I had come up with a scheme related to helmets. Unfortunately, one piece metal kits made it impractical. The new boxes, with separate heads and multiple options mean that it might be possible. Here's how it went:

Troop sisters are initiates; they're fairly green, so they are mastering their bolter skills. When they "level up" they get a basic helm and either a special or a heavy weapon, BUT they also get transferred to either a Dominion or a Retributor squad to learn the way of their wargear. After learning their skillset, they can stay with the specialist unit, or be redeployed with a basic Battle Sister squad.

The next "level" confers superior status, granting the Fleur de Lis helm. Also, at this point, a sister qualifies for Seraphim or Zephyrim training.

Not sure I'm going to stick with it, because some bareheaded retributors and doms will provide variety in those units.

I use different robe colors.  Since my order is Winter/X-mas themed my base troops are red robes/white armor.  Superiors and squad leaders are Green robes white armor.  My celestians will be same but with gold armor,  And my canoness is Blue robes white armor.

I was thinking, since there is no official rank colour-coding (like the painted helmets for some SM Chapters for example), apart from the obviously different load-out and the slightly bigger decals (which are kind of... discreet) maybe colour coding the rims of the bases? That way you get the message through (to you as well as your opponent) but at the same time it's not actually on the mini.

Just a thought...

EDIT: I am actually using this technique for my Blood Bowl teams to distinguish positions, as colour coding rims was a semi-official thing back in the day. :)

Edge the Superior's robe in either white or yellow for a dark robe, or a dark color for a light colored robe.

Alternatively paint chevrons on her robe sleeves. In fact I think I'm going to do just that.

I used different backpacks.  I managed to collect a bunch of the metal Canoness backpacks.  I used the ones with the 1 big flame for my Canoness, and the ones with the 2 flames for my superiors.

It might not be that easy to locate those backpacks at this point, but finding candles should be super easy.
