40k Legends and the retirement of bikes

I had been a long-time white scars player, with a focus on bikes. However the few times I tried them in 8th, they felt clunky and overpriced. With the release of the newest codex, even with the improvement in points, the entries removed filled me with dread. Sure enough, Only the Captain and Khan on a bike is still listed outside of Legends. A quarter of my army has been sent there, and it seems likely that the remaining bikes will follow in due time.

While I can't state it specifically, I feel like the release of legends killed the morale of the WS community here. While this has always been one of the slower communities, the revival in posting after the release of their new codex and supplement died upon the release of the legends pdfs. There has been only 10 posts since then, 1 of which was a recommendation to look at ravenwing. I know I haven't touched my scars, even to test a contrast paint scheme.

How are people dealing with this? Are you transitioning you army away from bikes, or trying to hold out and keep playing them?

Let's hope those potato pictures of Primaris bikes are not fake then things might get interesting again.

It kind of depends how GW view bikes though, if they are just a FA opton or even troops without the ability to ad support characters on bikes it's going to be a damp squib

Personally I can take it. For me White Scars love is about their color and flavour, and all of that goes beyond some unit type. I hope I dont lose brothers because of loss of bike units.

And like many believe, we will eventually have Primaris bikes. You know, GSC received a new bike model too. So it is not as if GW is pushing bikes out of the game to full extension.

I don't want to get into a new topic since this exists, but I'm just starting and here I have a few people trying to convince  me that the bikes are 'good'.

I'm wondering since the characters on bikes still work, and are legal, and have serious punch, aren't the bike squads good for escorting?

I'm thinking of a medium/large sized bike squad that can advance/charge with the Captain w/Hammer on Bike.

I don't really know if there is a cheaper, more resilient way of doing this? I mean the bonuses aren't great, but there's still a need to clear chaff, and position into a good offensive spot on the board.

Thoughts on trying this?

23 ppm for W2, T5, M14" guys with Autobolter++ (sort of) isn't exactly bad, and Bikers can all take a Chainsword which brings them up to Intercessor-level melee competence as well. The Serg is only A2 instead of A3, but his spread of wargear options makes up for it.

I'm of the opinion that they stand well enough on their own merit is what I'm getting at, although sadly I don't think there's a realistic argument that Scout Bikes aren't better. Bikes and Scout Bikes having the same point cost is just baffling.

I personally don't think the bikes are that competitive unless you're using a healthy dose of Stratagems. That said I have one large squad I use with my Scars, just so I have them.

I say this because my personal feeling is that in a few months we are losing bikes to a superior technology.. .jet bikes. GW will want to sell them so I see them having good rules. Then the traditional bikes will probably go the way of space marines vs. Primaris.

Wish I could disagree with that.

Even with CS to get their attack count up they're not exactly setting the world on fire, but they do have the second most reliable turn-one charge available to vanilla Marines at the moment and they're over the line into basically competent. If you want what they're bringing to the table then they're good enough at it to be worth buff-stacking on.

My first, and last, time I got something right before it happened.

No more lotto'ing for me. :wacko.:
