Question about Reapers

Forgive me brothers if this has been discussed before but Has there been a reason found as to why our reaper autocannons are only damage one but every other kind is d2 in the game? Is it a smaller chassis? I usually go with blight launchers for theme and effect but if reapers were d2 I’d add 3 more blightlords to the unit and two reapers. Thank you all in advance.

Reaper Autocannons have always done less damage.

It's because they have double the number shots of shots as a normal Autocannon. They trade range and damage for a better Rate of Fire

Though pre-8th they only had less range. Less damage is an invention of 8th edition as far as I remember.

Strictly speaking in the bad ol days before 8th Ed the reaper auto cannon was a precursor to the assault cannon.

Basically 2 autocannon welded together and placed in the hand of a terminator (cos no one else could handle the recoil)

So there is no reason for the different stats except for the possibly of making one weapon choice stand well above the others
