Xian Dong - 1st Captain of the Warriors of Peace

The Emerald General, The One-Eyed

Xian Dong and his twin brother Xian Yun both were recruited in the first wave from Han, being unique in being the only twins in the whole legion to both survive the implantation process. They are inseparable, serving alongside each other in the 1st Chapter and earning the respect of the Jade General. Following the Beprotx Campaign, the General chose both of them to become the 1st Captains. He is a member of the Suiyu, though as a newer member he is less warm than some of the older Imperial Light.

Xian Dong is a serious and loyal man who rarely questions his Primarch's judgment. He shares some of the same traits as his brother, namely his sense of humour and to a lesser extent his temper. He is known for his focus, being single-minded when given a task by the General to fulfil and not resting until it was. Similar to his brother’s sense of honour, Xian Dong hates deceitful tasks, viewing it as a less enlightened way to gain victory.

He is probably the General closest to the Jade General as he can usually comprehend the reasoning behind his lord's actions. His hardened and undeterred mindset gains the respect of other Warriors of Peace, particularly Deng Wiang and Xu Chun.

Xian Yun: 1st Captain of the Warriors of Peace,

The Ruby General, The Lightning Strike

Xian Yun and his twin brother Xian Dong both were recruited in the first wave from Han, being unique in being the only twins in the whole legion to both survive the implantation process. They are inseparable, serving alongside each other in the 1st Chapter and earning the respect of the Jade General. Following the Beprotx Campaign, the General chose both of them to become the 1st Captains. Xian Yun is a member of the Mongsuti, though he is one of its cooler voices in comparison to others such as Huang Ju-Long.

Xian Yun is one of the more sociable members of the Warriors of Peace, being skilled in both diplomacy and warfare. He is known for his sense of humour, which others within the Warriors of Peace view as strange but other legions enjoy. He is completely dedicated to the Jade General, viewing his vision for the galaxy as the best possible outcome. However, he does have a temper, being less patient than many of his brothers. He also has a keen sense of honour, being unwilling to attack human civilian targets and having respect for honourable foes.

Liu Gutir: Captain of the 2nd Grand Army

The Golden Hearted

Liu Gutir was a Terran recruit during the middle of the Great Crusade, serving alongside the medical corps of the Alabaster Order and as a diplomat. He did not gain the military reputation of many of his brothers, but he was known as a great scientist and bringer of peace. He was also a vocal member of the Jinsedao, being its second master under Lin Bah. Following Lin Bah’s death a few years before the General’s discovery, Liu Gutir was nominated to fill his space as Captain of the 2nd Grand Army.

Liu Gutir is renowned for his affability, being kind, virtuous and viewing the goal of the Great Crusade and the Imperium being to bring peace to the galaxy. He focuses on reducing civilian casualties, being empathetic to the suffering of the common human and believing that the Warriors should leave every system better when they leave it than when they arrived. It was this idealism that caused a rift with the Jade General, who distrusted Liu Gutir’s attachment to the civilian population and how it would hamper his military decisions. Liu was acutely aware of this failing, being deeply troubled by the losses his strategic decisions incurred and having his judgement clouded in certain situations where the casualties were too high to bear.

Qua Feng: 3rd Captain of the Warriors of Peace

King of the Southern Wind

When the Jade General was uniting the world of Han, Qua Feng was the child-emperor of a small kingdom renowned for its archers and crossbowmen. He pledged his allegiance to the General's cause and became an invaluable and loyal ally. When the Emperor came, Feng relinquished his titles and kingdom and became a humble follower of the Still Path, eventually rising back to prominence as a Praetor.

Qua Feng is a very centered and detached figure amongst the high command, divorcing himself of emotion before battle and always taking the most logical course. This sometimes makes him unpopular when serving alongside other legions, as he clashes with other commanders who disagree. Qua Feng is the sole Pariah who has become a captain, and as such has a huge amount of respect within the legion, being viewed by many as an icon.

Shao Jingyi: 4th Captain of the Warriors of Peace

The Silver General, The Mountain Tiger

Shao Jingyi has proven himself to be the Jade General’s most persistent General, given the toughest assignments and being the most trusted to deal with campaigns separate from the General. He was recruited before the General was discovered, being a minor Commandant without a particularly distinctive record. Once given more responsibility by the General, he proved himself time and time again and showed a determination that had not had the opportunity to shine before. Shao Jingyi was the General’s only choice for a Captain of the newly expanded 4th Grand Army.

Shao Jingyi embodies the calm resolve of the Warriors of Peace, with his simplicity of living and his courteousness standing out amongst his battle brothers. He does not hold grudges, having learnt to let go of such distractions to leave the mind open to all possibilities. He is no pacifist, though, being a fierce and courageous warrior with an impeccable service under the Jade General. Despite this, some of the other legions and captains sniff at Shao Jingyi for his long campaigns on the edges of civilisation. Since he is praised as a tiger of his homeland, he pridefully refers to himself by his nickname on several occasions - his men also share his pride during their respective conquests.

Sun Li: 5th Captain

The Cunning Wolf

Sun Li is a controversial captain within the legion, with his abrasiveness stopping him rising beyond the 5th Captain due to his rivalry with High Chancellor Zhukelion. This started early in Sun Li’s career, with the two clashing in the Liudongli over their rising reputations. Sun Li was recruited only a few years before the General was discovered, instantly identified as a strategic genius and on track for eventual high command.

Sun Li is both arrogant and brilliant in equal measure, preferring subterfuge and superior strategy to brute force. He places extreme faith in his own intellect, believing that intelligence should be the only deciding factor in who commands and rules in the galaxy. As a result, he looks down on those who he views as less intelligent, particularly mortals. The only Warrior he views as an equal is High Chancellor Zhukelion, who he has a rivalry with. As the Ruins progress, Sun Li does show more genuine loyalty towards both the Jade General, deeming that the General was worthy of having him serve him. His one worry is not being able to predict an unknown factor that could ruin his strategies, and as such he is overly cautious and prefers going on the defensive.

Zhong Yin: 6th Captain

The Black Mountain

Zhong Yin was recruited from Han, in the second generation of the Warriors of Peace recruits. He was initially part of the 4th Grand Army under Shao Jian, but his unorthodox strategic acumen highlighted him as a vital asset to the Jade General. As the legion grew, Zhong Yin was selected to become the Captain of the newly created 6th Grand Army.

Zhong Yin follows a radical subset of the Suiyu, springing from a much more independent monastery on Han. It rejects the more Terran side of the Suiyu, with an anti-authority philosophical strain and an emphasis on the co-operation aspect, with Zhong Yin having developed this world view through his campaigns alongside the Dune Serpents and Stalking Leopards. Zhong Yin is a cunning master of ambushes and deception, being the legion’s stealth specialist. He is rather self-serving, seeking to exploit any opportunity to grow his own position or his grander goal of being free from the Imperial bureaucracy. In service of this, he is always looking to make alliances and friendships, in the hopes that in the future they will prove useful.

The Yellow Helms

The Yellow Helms were a cross-Path group of like-minded Warriors of Peace, made of those concerned for the wellbeing of the common person in the Imperium. Gradually alienated from the Jade General’s vision for the Qui-Tan Domain and his followers, the Yellow Helms sought to lead the mortals to spiritual enlightenment through improving their wellbeing and proving the superiority of their beliefs this way. When doing this within the system proved impossible, the path of open rebellion was the only option left.

“Now that was a sight, I tell you. Seeing the XVIIth in action. The Orks were coming towards our city, covering the plains as far as the eyes can see. Me and the rest of the regiment were dug in, trying not to piss ourselves, and then the XVIIth struck. It was like watching one of them ancient clocks, seeing every group of Astartes moving in perfect coordination. As one part retreated, another part would strike, and then we got the signal. We mowed down those green bastards, and sent them running. That’s a day that made me proud to be fighting for the Imperium, because we’ve got the best.”

The Imperial Light

Due to the Warriors’ of Peace small legion size, they did not develop the complex legion structure of most other legions. However, one unique group did emerge: the Imperial Light.

The Imperial Light was the elite unit of the Warriors of Peace, numbering 100 of the legion’s most seasoned Astartes. They were dubbed the Imperial Light by the citizens of an Imperial world they brought to compliance peacefully through diplomacy, as it was said that they had brought the light of the Imperium to this dark galaxy.

The Imperial Light strove to be the epitome of the philosopher warriors, being both skilled in arms, their words and unravelling the secrets of the universe. In between campaigns, it was just as common for the Imperial Light to debate ideas and new theories as it was for them to train for combat. Every commander of the pre-Jade General Warriors of Peace was a member of the Imperial Light, and was denoted with a white shoulder pad with a flame on it.

With the arrival of the Jade General, the Path system he introduced replaced the old order of the Imperial Light, and his choices for high command were drawn increasingly from the newer Han recruits, sidelining the Imperial Light as the centre for legion commanders. With the death of the Light’s final Captain during the Beprotx Campaign, the order was silently disbanded, many Terran Warriors saddened by its passing yet the legion at large moved on.

Qiang Shui

Qiang Shui, translated into Gothic as “Mighty Flood”, is the Imperial Gloriana-class Battleship that served as the flagship of the Jade General, the Primarch of the Warriors of Peace Legion, during the Great Crusade and the Five Ruins of the late 30th and early 31st Millennia.

This vessel led a large flotilla of Warriors of Peace warships which comprised the XVIIth Legion's 348th Expeditionary Fleet. The Qiang Shui served as the General's flagship throughout the Great Crusade during many notable Imperial Compliance actions and various other campaigns.

The Qiang Shui was known for its relatively small size yet extremely powerful weapons batteries, with its crew being extremely well-drilled and versed in void warfare. The outside is mostly unadorned, frivolity exchanged for practicality and optimisation of performance. Inside, the ship was a labyrinth of corridors, each specifically designed to appear indistinguishable and disorientate enemy boarding parties. The Qiang Shui excels as more than just a gun platform though, being able to coordinate highly complex manoeuvres between the ships of the Warriors of Peace and their allies.

Warriors of Peace Homeworlds

Han

Class: Feudal World, Legion Homeworld (Formerly), Dead World (Currently)

Segmentum: Obscurus

System: Han

Han was the homeworld of the Warriors of Peace during the Great Crusade and Five Ruins. During the Fifth Ruin, it was subject to a ruinous attack by the Crimson Lions and Star Lords, leaving it a Dead World while the Warriors of Peace took Jin as their new primary fiefdom.

Han is located in the far top left of Segmentum Obscurus, making it one of the furthest Primarch homeworlds from Terra. It has a varied climate, with great mountain ranges, lush forests and very fertile land to grow food. However, the technology of Han is still at a feudal level, meaning that most farming is subsidence and most inhabitants live in the rural areas. At the time of the Jade General's arrival on Han, there were three large and several smaller kingdoms, with a growing power in the flat and windy land to the north.

Jin

Class: Civilised World, Legion Homeworld

Segmentum: Tempestus

Sector: Forsarr

System: Fenghao

Jin is the current homeworld of the Warriors of Peace legion following the Fifth Ruin. Beginning as merely a Civilised World within the domain of the Alabaster Order following the Third Ruin, its distance from Paradis Trovato made it a backwater within the Separatist domain. Following the Plague of Gustave and the sundering of much of Segmentum Tempestus, its distance and isolation proved its salvation, as it remained relatively untouched by the plague itself. When the Jade General and the remnants of the Warriors of Peace arrived at Zbruch seeking Koschei’s aid, Jin and its fringe territory made it the General’s primary choice for a new homeworld.

Jin is a rather undeveloped Civilised World, with areas of nature still remaining on the world as it had not yet begun true industrialisation. The cities of the world are small in comparison to the mighty hive cities, but with the arrival of the General they have begun to grow rapidly as every aspect of the world was upgraded by the General to be a suitable new capital.

Compliance of the Autonarchic Union

Date: 002.M31

Location: Koronus Expanse, Segmentum Obscurus

Forces Involved:

Warriors of Peace led by the Jade General = 16,000

Shadow Warriors led by Rang Talyc = 40,500+

            Akaan’Adiike = 162,000

Kallastin Ogryn Auxilia = 50,000

Legio Solachra = 5 Titans

Autonarchic Union = millions of militia, Sslyth mercenaries

Outline of Events

The Autonarchic Union receives a envoy from the Warriors of Peace, telling them that the Imperium is stable once again and that the worlds may now rejoin the Imperium since the threat has passed

The ruling council of the Union, alongside their military generals, reject the demands and declare full independence

Rang Talyc and the Shadow Warriors report the report of the rebellion, and arrive to aid the Warriors of Peace with a much larger force

The Imperial forces form two columns, the main column heading for Ramien and the secondary, more stealthy column launched a lightning strike towards Iniquity

  • Column 1, led by Rang Talyc
  • The Imperial Forces being an orbital bombardment of Ramien, where a large concentration of Autonarchic ground forces are stationed
  • While the Imperial Army continue the bombardment, the Shadow Warriors seek out the Autonarchic Fleet, using Ramien as bait to draw them in
  • Over the world of Yamakor, the Shadow Warriors pounce on the Autonarchic Fleet and cripple it, destroying the majority
  • The Shadow Warriors rejoin the WoP, and Rang launches the orbital assault = the Battle of Ramien

Column 2, led by the Jade General

  • Iniquity is caught off guard, and captured easily
  • The Autonarchic Fleet is identified as heading towards Magoros to reinforce the area, and so the Shadow Warriors attack Grace and head towards Damaris to draw them out
  • The Autonarchic Fleet try to ambush the vanguard fleet, but are encircled by the WoP and rest of the Shadow Warriors and are all captured or destroyed
  • The Imperial forces rapidly capture the rest of the nearby worlds of Repton IV, Ritammeron, Magoros and Rain

The two forces converge on Ntharis, with Damaris being taken by the Jade General on the way

  • The Autonarchic forces garrison the world, which has been fortified in the previous years
  • Battle of Ntharis
  • The Imperial forces fan out, quickly re-establishing control over barely or undefended worlds, leading up to the last bastion, Dolorium
  • Battle of Dolorium

The Shadow Warriors depart, having defeated the rebels, whilst the Warriors of Peace remain to clean up and sort out the political situation

Zhong Zhi Sheng

The final test for any Warrior of Peace aspirant is the Zhong Zhi Sheng, a strategy test developed by the Jade General and his Generals. An aspirant nearing the end of his training would be taken to Nangu, a moon of Han, where a combat scenario was constructed. The scenario was designed to simulate a city fight campaign, with the aspirant given command of a group of new recruits. The area was garrisoned with specially-created servitors and automata, capable of punishing bad tactical decisions and even killing aspirants.

The leader would be given a target somewhere in the city, and would have to find and eliminate it. There was a set time limit, and the aspirant would be penalised for every squad member knocked out in the combat, and severe penalties for a death. The scenario forced the aspirant to show leadership, tactical skill, analysing the terrain and decision making.

The final part of the scenario would always play out the same way. Once the target had been located, it would be revealed that the target had taken hostages and had planted a bomb that would kill them if he died. One of the hostages was someone close to the recruit before they joined the legion, a family member or a lover or a friend. The aspirant was expected to kill the target, and if the supervisors felt that the aspirant was taking too long to decide, the automata would be made to close in on the group. Any aspirant that failed their mission by refusing to kill the target were immediately rejected by the legion and forced into the legion serfs, and even those who somehow found a way to successfully kill the target and not kill the hostages would be marked down but allowed to continue training.
