Welcome, battle brothers and sisters, to the first installment of the monthly Necromunda conversion challenge for 2020! My interest in 40k and my motivation both have taken a hit in the last few months so maybe this will help me and some others get back into the groove.

The rules:

1) The finished model should be unpainted so we can clearly see your converting or kitbashing though the odd painted piece stolen re-purposed from another figure is fine.

2) Models that might have already been started are acceptable, but if it's something that's almost finished, you may enter it as an out-of-competition model that won't be eligible for judgement.

3) You must declare if the model is Ruled or Unruled, meaning if it's based on something from one of the rule books and will have a points value then it will be Ruled and if it's just a neat thing you wanted to do with some Necromunda flavor then it will be Unruled.

4) Ruled models must be WYSIWYG and all relevant gear must be modeled. As such, a listing of gear will need to accompany your figure at some point. Unruled models are exempt from WYSIWYG

5) You must declare participation at least 24 hours before completion of your conversion.

6) You can enter multiple times, but you must finish one entry before pledging the next. Only one entry will be considered for judgement and you will nominate which to put forth.

7) Build time is from February 29 until March 31, 2020.

Pledging your entry:

Please use the following format for your pledge:

I, (your name), pledge to convert (character type or name, Ruled or Unruled) for (House or other faction) in the Conversion Challenge on or before March 31, 2020.

Progress:

A photo of your model's condition before beginning (parts, base figure, figures you're going to chop up, etc) is required with your pledge (or as soon as you can). The figure you wish to enter for judgement will require pics of the front, back, and both sides. Progress pics along the way are optional but appreciated.

As is tradition with so many events, here's a participation banner.

That would be fantastic if it did, brother.

So... I have zero ideas in my head for a 'Munda chop job. Maybe some suggestions might help? What should I build?

Something from one of the scenarios. A murder cyborg? Some hive dwellers? The beast outside of it's lair?

Thanks to Lord Uglor I now know how big the zerker is and my idea of using a regular goliath as the start of a conversion is out the window. I have some bits that should be showing up this weekend for a different idea though, using this as the base:

I am down for this :tu: I have loads of unfinished projects on the go, so why not as I need (well, want!) a new version of my leader for my Goliath gang, the War Bastards :D

I, Midnightmare, pledge to convert Forge Tyrant (Ruled) for House Goliath in BCK’s Conversion Challenge on or before March 31, 2020.

I don’t have all the parts as yet, but I have a few ideas and I am going to base him on one of the new Stimmers I think, or possibly the Slaughterpriest.

I, Slave to Darkness Vow to build a Stig Shambler for the glory of house Cawdor in BCK's conversion challenge on or before March 31st 2020.

Time to go look for bits I guess.

Yay, first pledge! I can't wait to see what you're going to do with it. :D

I am well into ‘Munda atm, I have just started back gaming and our club have a campaign on the go. I am using my old gang of Blood Reavers converted to Goliaths so I to am excited to re-build my leader using the new kits.

Loadout-wise, he will be magnetised I am thinking of going with a Heavy Bolter to change it up, and an axe of some sort.

Edit - I couldn’t add the image to my sig, says it’s too big. Could be because I have the other ones on there?

For a minute there I thought you were going to build a 'Zerker based on a Sisters torso.

Death by snu snu.

With just painting effects and minimal GS work I already see knee-high leather boots, booty shorts, fishnets and a velvet corset. Great starting point for Hired Guns/Hangers-On/Anything Escher.

Well spotted Kage.

That's not quite what I had in mind, but not a bad idea either. :happy.:

Early days but I have begun!

gallery_46632_13392_177514.jpeg

I have decided against using a Stimmer or the Slaughterpriest - after looking at size comparisons they are just to big for what I have in mind. Note, I decided this after I ordered the Stimmer/Forge Born kit :D :D :D

He is going to be looking to his left, right foot on some sort of gubbins. The Hammer is magnetized as is the grenade launcher arm for a Heavy Bolter conversion (just waiting on bitz)

EDIT -

Had a go with some greenstuff -

gallery_46632_13392_195563.jpeg

I am not good with greenstuff so I am quite happy how his chest has turned out so far. Could do with a tweak once dry, but not bad for me :) Thankfully the right shoulder will have some sort of beefy shoulder pad :tu:

Looking good! If there's any help I can offer with the GS, let me know, 'cause I have done some similar work on a Goliath.

Edit: My battle sister bits just arrived, woot! Too bad I'm about to leave for work.

I did not, I will head straight over to it right now. Thanks!

EDIT

Wow mate - that’s brilliant. I basically use the metal tool and water (or saliva!) so no wonder :D very informative :tu:

*heads to buy proper clay shapers*

By all means, please, learn from my mistakes with GS. :smile.:

I will say that clay shapers aren't for everyone and it's what works for me. I've suggested them to people many times over the years and a fair number have come back and told me the shapers didn't help them at all.

Once I started using clay shapers I've never looked back, worth trying out at least. I did have two types, white ones and black ones, I found the white ones to be softer material and a bit crap, the black ones were much harder and IMHO spot on.

But my sculptings crap so your probably better off not paying attention to a word I say lol. Good luck on the sculpting though, it's stressful but when you nail it its soooooo worth it.
