Upgrade Sprues: What should they be?

With a new wave of upgrade sprews having come out. What do you expect or want from upgrade sprews and at what price?

And by extension upgrade sprews as way to faciliate both unit options, and new units?

Also while related to above questions what makes a sprew bad and whay makes it good?

I'd wish that GW didn't make the upgrade sprue so synchronous in their content - let me explain. In my opinion, upgrade sprues should cater to the aesthetic sensibilities of that given faction/chapter/legion. So, by that logic, I'd rather that the Iron Hands upgrade sprue had more cybernetic arms, maybe even a cybernetic leg, a chest or two to swap out with regular intercessors etc. As is, you only get two pairs of cyber-arms per kit and they are in the same pose as well. For White Scars, I would have loved to see more of the mongolian tassel-work decorations, maybe some actual tulwars, top-knots and trophies.

In general, I think that putting shoulder-pads with raised detail onto the sprue is a huge waste of space when modern transfers are so easy and quick to use, as well as room-saving.

Agreed, shoulder pads are not really of interest to me as any squads with them would stick out compared to the rest of my army which has transfers. IMHO the old upgrade sprues were much better than the Primaris ones in this regard. While shoulder pads were still a big part of it, the additional of a few alternate torso pieces and extra details could really help make the Sergeant stand out and capture the character of the chapter.

Speaking of which, why do the Primaris upgrade sprues only have 9 should pads, even when they are supposed to kit out a 10-man squad? :blink.:

You get 1 Tacticus Sergeant Shoulder Pad, and 4 Tacticus pads and 1 Gravis Sergeant and 2 Gravis pads per frame.

The Dark Angels, Space Wolves, Ultramarines and Blood Angels get 1 in their box.... Because reasons (all the new ones are two of the same sprue)

Just a guess, but I think GW went to the 2-per-package approach to better match the kits up with the 10-man Intercessor/Hellblaster Squad boxes. It seems like the Combat Squad boxes were in part meant to pair up with those early upgrade kits, but with the Combat Squad boxes not being available anymore, GW may figure it's better to offer the newer upgrade kits in handy 10-man versions.

I know there are boxed sets out there with only five Intercessors or Hellblasters, but unless I missed one, those were all out of production and generally unavailable by the time the new upgrade kits came out late last summer and early fall.

(And yeah, that also forces the guy with a three-man Gravis squad to buy twice the package he needs, but with Tacticus models being much more prevalent they very well could have decided to take their cue from the Intercessor/Hellblaster kits. After all, the vast majority of players sitting on just a three-man Gravis squad most likely have at least ten Tacticus models).

I have no idea if there will ever be a new Black Templar upgrade sprue, but if there is, I'd primarily want tabards and knight helms from it. It's already easy to put symbols on shoulder pads and chains on weapons.

and then I would buy at least 10 packs.

5 unique shoulderpads

5 Chapter/Legion pads

3-5 helmets

assorted gubbins

NO transfers- transfers should be their own set.

NO terminator pads- those are blatantly just there to push up the price for relatively minimal actual value.

Hoping we get CSM Legion upgrade sets eventually.

I would like some helmets and then some sort of weapon

chainswords/axes for flesh tearers upgrade spruce

long knives for raven guard

mechanical legs/arm for iron hands

gladius for ultramarines

hooded helmets/heads for dark angels

stuff like that would be worth it alongside shoulder pads we get
