The Imperium Torn Asunder (Fluff Plog)

So, some of you older B&C veterans may recall back in 2014-2015 there was a surge in Night Lords fandom. We had greats like Flint, Brother-Chaplain Kage, Brother Heinrich, Noctus Cornix, Aeternas, and I'm sure many more. They're just the ones I remember most. That was a great time for me, as that was when I really started painting to paint, inspired by all of the great works I was seeing on here. Without a doubt, that community helped me through one of the hardest mentally/emotionally points of my life. And I am ever grateful for them.

One of the things that came out of my project was the character of Marek Vanya. Commander of my 100th Company, and the Bloody Centuria warband that followed, I want to dedicate the next group of images to the many models this character has had in the past 6 years.

I'm going to post them by in-universe chronological order, so we can follow his career path through 10,000 years of warfare:

Early-Mid Crusade:

-This model was built well after Marek Vanya had a story, this represents him as a centurion in the early Legion, before the Night Haunter was discovered. Being one of the original Terran recruits, Vanya worked his way to company command early, through a mix of tactical acumen, and sheer brutality. I never actually finished painting him. Maybe I should do that.

Late Crusade/Early Heresy:

-Marek Vanya's first model. This is the one that started the story. By the Heresy, he was fully engulfed in the Legion's madness. Vanya leads the 100th Company through Istvaan V, and the Thramas Crusade. Sadly, this model has been lost to the sands of time. I have no idea what happened to it.

Late Heresy/On the Walls of Terra:

-I wanted to rebuild Vanya to make use of Anvil Industries' chain glaive arms, since it was such a good weapon, and when I built the first model, the VIII did not have rules yet. I played around with a little narrative of him having a particular grudge against an Imperial Fist guarding the walls. Due note that this version of Vanya is missing the signature jump pack.

Post-Heresy:

-The next iteration of Vanya was also missing the signature jump pack. I'm assuming at this point that there was some fluff reason as to why the past two versions are ground mobile. Maybe he was participating more in the 100th's Mechanized and armoured formations?

13th Black Crusade:

-Ah, here's Vanya at his best. No longer does he need that jump pack, now he can take to the skies whenever he wants. This model holds a deep and dear meaning to my heart. During this model's "lifetime", I was going through a REAL BAD episode, and the fluff I wrote during that time was dual purpose; both Vanya and I were fighting the daemon within. The imperial iconography on his chestplate echoes how I felt at the time, proud of my past, and that I was still alive, but also at odds at who I was, and who I was becoming. I am going to eventually finish painting this model, because never before has a model rang so true to me.

And that just leaves the current, modern day Marek Vanya. But in this day of primaris space marines, and everything getting bigger and better, how can Vanya keep up?

The new Captain Vanya deserves his own post.
