Greetings, my fellow chaos followers! As you probably have noticed, the influence of Grandfather Nurgle is spreading throughout the world. And what better time to take care of that big pile of various shades of grey that is populating our wardrobes, attics and other storage places. As such, I was thinking I could have a little event with this. :smile.:

The premise is pretty simple. Do you have "that old project I never finished", or a squad that has been basecoated but never really finished. GET IT DONE! :biggrin.: The event will be live for from 1st of April to the 31st of May and you vow one project at a time. At the end, you'll get a fancy badge for your signature depending on the number of vows you have finished. Pictures will be needed for "before" and "after". :smile.:

So how do you finish a vow, I hear you ask? Well, the only one you're competing against is yourself! As long as the project clearly has been improved upon since the start, it's valid...within reason ofc.

*Got grey sprues you need to assemble and paint, that's fine

*Got grey built models that needs paint, that's fine

*Got basecoated models or models with basic colours on them, that's fine as well.

*Got models you're unsure of, PM me and I'll take a look.

Now, this is a very much improvised campaign that I thought about as I have been recovering from the big C, so the badges aren't done yet... :tongue.:

But they will be...

Oh, and it will of course be open to all the areas in the chaos subforum. :biggrin.:

Aaaw, just Chaos? :tongue.: I've realized I need to get my Dark Angels backlog worked on, as I've gotten almost all of the models for my Night Lords done :laugh.:

But Dark Angels are Chaos...!

If you have Company Veterans, just vow them as Fallen and you'll be fiiiiiiine.

Think I'm gonna vow my converted 'Zerkers - maybe.

Yes, just chaos! I got a lot of grey stuff here that needs finishing/painting so I'll join my own event at least, haha

I've been stalling on the Spidershrimp, he's got as far as base colours and that's about it - a deadline is just what I need! I will see what other unit(s) I can work on as follow ups... I have three armies to choose from, this is a choice you don't usually get to make :tongue.:

Ahhh what the hell, I was thinking of turning all my spare marine bits into Nurgle or Khorne renegades anyway. This may be the kick up the behind I need to actually get started.

Just acquired the first 400 issues of White Dwarf on PDF, for reference material.  Issue 150 was the second issue I bought and my first exposure to John Blanches work and Chaos Marines. He converted a few squads from the original MK7 box, some Empire bits and titan weapons into some lovely Khorne marines. Always wanted to do something similar but never did... can I do it 29 years later though??

I, Zephaniah Adriyen, hereby vow to paint five Khorne Berzerkers for the glory of Chaos and the World Eaters Legion. This task will be completed prior to May 31st.

Edit: An hour of work later and here's where we're at. I've got a smooth blue down, and a pre-shaded white. I have plans - anyone remember that snippet about the World Eaters being red because they're caked with blood, not because they actually painted their armor red? Essentially, the plan is to simulate the progression and wear of World Eaters armor as I paint - get down a clean Great Crusade-era paint job, then weather, then weather more, then corrode a bit, then learn to do dried blood.

And... what, six hours later? I'm finished, save for basing. I didn't work on them constantly, but I did work on them on and off for that whole period. Eventually fell back on a full anointment of Blood for the Blood God - but laying down that dried blood stipple beforehand did wonders. You can't really see in the pictures, but they actually look a lot like traditional World Eaters. The gold survived the cakeage better than the blue and white did, and what was left of the blue and white just became more red after the anointment. In essence, what I'm saying is Games Workshop was correct as to what the World Eaters would look like covered in blood from a white/gold/blue color scheme. Calling it done, I'll base 'em next time I do a round of basing.

...Alright, this is the last edit, I promise. Excessus, can I vow a Kill Team datasheet? I wanna do these guys' (slightly) cleaner fire support buddies.

11 Bloodletters. I won’t be basing them as I’m still uncertain what my overall basing theme is going to be for the army.

I hereby follow up my previous vow with the following:

One Chaos Space Marine Gunner, Sniper specialism, for the honor of the World Eaters Legion and Hunter-Team Bloodreaver.

I popped off his head and I'm gonna get him a bunny ears one out of my bits box after I took this picture.

...Lord, has this happened again? Alright, once more to avoid double posting, I'm editing. I finished the lad - again, aside from bases - and found out how good those five 'Zerkers could have looked if I'd put more work into them, not caked on blood-browns and not covered them in a layer of blood paint. The dirty, grimy, but distinctly white power armor really makes conservatively applied blood stand out - I applied it gently and carefully in places I thought would be colliding with enemies most. The fists, the end of the gun - implying it's been used as a club - the boots and the pauldrons - pauldrons implying he's been doing some deadly charging and shoulder-checking. Basic recipe is a medium grey (Mechanicus Standard brightened up with a bit of White Scar would work, I was mixing Abaddon Black and White Scar) with two drybrushes of white over that. Block in the silver, gold and blue (I used Leadbelcher, Retributor Armor and Army Painter Ultramarine Blue) and touch up and highlight the white with just straight White Scar. I also painted in the eye lenses with Reaper... whatever the medium green is, the label's destroyed on mine, followed by Aethermatic Blue Contrast. Apply transfers here if desired (I did not desire). Finally, wash everything with Nuln Oil and use your best judgement for the blood. The trim was frustrating, but it was okay because I've gotten better at speedpainting precisely since my Word Bearers, and it's just the one model.

Figure since the Legion warband is progressing through the 12 months of hobby, might as well also put the models down here!

I, Aeternus, rise to the Challenge of The Spring Backlog Cleaning and swear to paint the following units on or before May 31st:

The remaining 5 marines of 8th claw, and 4 terminator veterans of 2nd claw

Started on the cultists. They're built but I need to further modify them. I'll attach a post to Reddit that has the barest paint on it and would love some feedback

I bought a forgeworld heresy era landraider that I bought when I was in England a couple of years back that I never got around to building - I vow to assemble (but not paint - I'll be saving that for ETL) it.

Yes, I know its a 30K model, but when its done I intend to use it in 40K as a regular land raider.

Just as a heads up if ya didn't know, that pattern (looks to be the Proteus?) does have chaos rules for 40k if ya wanna run it as something other than a regular raider! It's the hellforged proteus in the chaos index
