Hey all, welcome to my work in progress thread. I've had terrible luck in the past getting these maintained but I'm nothing if nae optimistic so I'm starting a new thread!! Fun!

I'll use this first post to be a title page (Ambitious!), models forthcoming.

Hey,

First model of this log! Just put together this Heavy Bolter marine who'll be part of my Night Lords, though he might find himself in the livery of Abaddon. I really like the new Chaos marine kit, it is gorgeous and so much better than the old kit. The lack of customisability is the worst part, though and a pretty significant flaw, but with a hobby saw and gritted teeth I can get some work done. Got quite a few projects planned for that box!

Here, I wanted to make him look heavy. The heavy bolter in the Chaos box is lovely, looks like it has real mass to it. With the hunched back of this body, I hope it would make it look like he's been bent by years of carrying this bolter (And perhaps the rot in his soul). The shoulder pads really aid him in looking big, and I used the bare head for it adds real character to the model. I feel the helmeted heads in the new box, while lovely, make a model look like a generic, disposable villain and that is certainly not what I want for my Chaos forces. I'd use an MKIII head but I feel they look a little odd on the Chaos bodies because they seem so uncorrupted, but the MKIV heads look fine to me. Ah, the vagaries of taste.

Stuck on with blue tack, so let me know if you feel any changes should happen!!

I'm very pleased with my new photo setting, I've been painfully oblivious to it for years now but I've found it and it works great!

Thanks for reading, stay safe!

Hey all!

Hope you all are staying healthy. I've been working on the Night Lords with lockdown very near so I have something to do.

I was looking to do something with this body that implied the model was going to be charging some poor unfortunates very soon, and these Grey Hunter arms and Bloodreaver axe head I found seemed perfect. I was thinking I wouldn't have them but I found them in the bits box, so that worked out well.

He's an intimidating fellow, but I'm not entirely decided on where his head should be looking.

Thinking either forward or to the side. Lots of bits held together with blu-tack now but I think the shoulder pads and backpack will stay. I used the MKIV ones to dial back the Chaos corruption a bit. The head is MKIV as those are some of my favourite Adeptus Astartes heads, the other head from the Chaos box I'd considered making him feel a little too corrupted.

Nice start Badgers (nice profile pic too btw - Brocktree?)

IMO the head pose away from the axe is better - the other direction makes him look like he’s going “what is this? An axe??”

Thanks. :) Yeah, it's Brocktree. Great book.

Mm, I agree with you, but I think if the head was looking up more it would be better, and also an unfortune side effect of the blue tack is that too much of it can skew the model in subtle ways.

I´m glad people like MK:4 helmets still. I´m pretty burnt out by primaris at this point.

I might add some kinda pistol or other weapon for axemans hip.

Something about them is really cool, I've avoided the Primaris burnout so far, no Primaris (Yet. June will see Primaris making their way into my forces)

I'll definitely add a pistol. Thanks for the comment! :)

See, I'm in the opposite camp as WeepingAngel. Totally understand where they're coming from, but I like the head forward. To me it says "You see this axe? I'm going to teach you to speak Nostraman with this axe!" just looks more imposing to me, but that's my humble opinion.

Thanks! I'll tinker with the head a little, and it works with the way the body's posed as if the man's going to be charging forward.

Now, the hobby butterfly syndrome hits once more!

Seems I've spent too much time on the Space Wolves subforum, haha. :teehee: :teehee:

New dudes coming soon! (Soon as studies permit)

Love how you've used some Mk 4 bits in the Night Lords. Can't wait to see where they and the Space Wolves go!

Cheers, friend. :)

Space Wolves will have to wait until my saw gets here in some weeks, since I'll be truescaling them (Or rather, scaling them in line with the Chaos Marines.) Even if I don't end up narratively pairing these forces, I'd still like the marines to have the same height.

Did some quick greenstuffing on a trophy for the Night Lords. I've been avoiding trophies so far with the two models above more due to not wanting to do them immediately. A Night Lords force does warrant some blood, so here is the first of it!

1054927_sm-.jpeg

For the first time I've sculpted in maybe a year, I'm quite pleased. Not really hard to sculpt but it certainly turned out nice, though I wish I'd made the hair pulled up more. No matter, I'm happy and this should take paint well. Not sure if I should give the dead man facial hair, but he'll be getting a neck I meant to give him yesterday but I was a little lazy.

The MKIV head is temporary, will probably get him a MKVII or VI. The chainsword arm I wanted to use was a little off angle wise. I'm also a bit reticent on the chainsword as there would be blood all over the teeth. As the heavy bolter is going to be drenched in blood, the whole effect might come out as too much when these models are together.

1054926_sm-.jpeg

The side shot has the hair looking smooth, which is a problem, but I think paint can help amend that with fake shadows.

Also, the unintended effect of posing the model like this makes it look like the marine is posing for a photo.. I don't mind too much, should look better with a weapon arm added.

Will post some photos of some Dark Vengeance fellows I've been making suit the Space Wolves. See you later! :)

C and C always welcome.

This pose, absolutely! That's so damn menacing, he'll look great with some terror markings on that helm, I'm visualising a single bloody tear or something ace.

Great posing and effort so far, looking forward to paint - do you know what recipe you'll use for the midnight?

Great trophy! It really looks like he's clutching the hair. The hair itself looks really thick. The poor sod must have had some great hair care products.

Thanks, Llagos_Tyrant! :) Nothing but the best shampoo and conditioner for the sons of Fenris.

Looking good badger! I like that the trophy head is still screaming.. have you considered any spinal/ throat remnants? I guess it depends how clean the cut was..

Thanks, Sandalphon. I've added a bit of neck which looked a little odd so I added in the metal implants that Space Marines have at the back of their heads. Ties it in well as a marine.

Thanks, Xenith! He'll be a little Khorne leaning, so bloody tears sound like a great idea.

I've actually done some painting for a test model today. Zenithal white over black, and then a few coats of Night Lords Blue. May end up reducing the number of layers so the zenithal is more visible. Next model will have a black --> grey --> white zenithal highlight, though. Also, it's a bit of a nightmare airbrushing with Citadel paints. Just the pot shape. Sigh.

I've done a bit of work on this fellow, but just blocking in colours.

Here's a little model I put together for the Crypteks' Conclave. It's supposed to be a flayed one, but this is an idea I had for Necrons that have been somehow subsumed by the environment of the planet they're on. Not the best pictures, my apologies.

By the way, next update should feature my take on Varagyr more like the Black Book art and more goodies!

Night Lords are off to a great start! Loving the posing you are getting for them and would love to see more paint no the latest one. Want to see how that blue looks with metallic trim and everything.

Necron is also look good and I like the idea of the local plant life growing on his necrodermis from eons of slumber.

Thanks, Hush! :) I'll post up the painted Night Lord soon, got a bunch of work to do though. Not too happy with the blue, think I'll go for a thinner coat of blue. The thicker blue was due to it being the first time I airbrushed from a paint pot, so I've gained an idea on what to do and what not to.

Here's some finished miniatures! I converted these for the Space Wolves subforum challenge.

The axe-wielder! Really happy with the miniature, and the trophy makes him quite characterful. I've given him a Khorne shoulder pad from the old CSM box. In my lore, he killed a World Eater and took his shoulder pad both as a sign of contempt to the warrior's devotion to Khorne and to replace a damaged shoulder pad, and took his helmet for a trophy. However, I also wanted to hint that the Night Lord is falling to Khorne slowly, and the fact that him and his trophy helmet are looking in the same direction is a happy coincidence.

gallery_93221_16342_55157.jpeg

Here's a model which was quite frustrating to work on, the bolt pistol in his left hand having to be transplanting using three (!) different Space Marine arms. Regardless, he looks nice. The Blood Angels helm is a trophy, this Night Lord mocking the foe he killed by wearing his armour in battle.

And here's a wolf guard. I've blu-tacked the backpack for when I magnetise it for a jump pack. Twin chainswords, a fun loadout! Model wise I think he looks alright, his fellows will be armed with axes which will be counts as chainswords.

gallery_93221_16358_34447.jpeg

And finally, here's my take on a Varagyr that looks more like the Black Book art. The fur was a new technique I tried, real fiddly but I think now I've gained a better understanding of it. I spent way too much time on the fur, hah. The fur doesn't look bad from a distance, but paint will tell.

gallery_93221_16358_134683.jpeg

gallery_93221_16358_151590.jpeg

I realise the right shoulder pad is missing a little fur. I only realised when taking the photo because it isn't very evident in reality.

I like the blue you have but I am interested in the next batch of blue you do. Nice to see how it will come out and compare.

The new batch of marines are looking good. So it’s your night lords v space wolves for the SW forum?

Thanks, hush! Never got around to replying to this, oops! I'm going to change how I'm painting them and use glazes and whatnot to get a better effect.

Some lovely looking models here Badger. I look forward to seeing what you come up with next.

Dallo

Thank you, Dallo! Much appreciated. :smile.:

After a long time, I bring the start of a model. This is a first truescale model for a Horus Heresy army, will post more soon!

Greenstuff on the torso, not planning too much more greenstuff work. Future models will have MKIV knee pads, but for this one he'll be wearing a suit with MKV kneepads.

I would love your feedback and thoughts on this!

Hoping you all are doing well.

Looks like a good start!  I'm really interested in seeing how you do the Mk4 knees.
