So I finally finished my centurion - who may count as a Delgatus or Chaplain. This was part of my Loyalty & Treachery vow, so only 10 months late!

med_gallery_93054_12142_69953.jpg

And that, along with a few new bolter-armed marines, means I technically have a legal force:

med_gallery_93054_12142_43984.jpg

Delegatus with Power Weapon (Rite of War: Chosen Duty)

Veteran Squad with two extra veterans, heavy bolter and suspensor

Veteran Squad with two extra veterans, banestrike ammunition, flamer and combi-melta

For a massive 388 points!

And it's pretty much WYSIWYG, except maybe that power axe doesn't look mastercrafted. That arm is magnetized, so I can look for a fancy alternative. The heavy bolter is also magnetized, so that squad might get downgraded to Tactical Squad as I work out what's next to try to get to 500 points.

Magnets, am I asking for trouble trying to magnetise the wrist of Terminators?

I want to start building my Tartaros Command Squad but I'm still not sure on Combi-Plasma or Melta so I'm tempted to allow for options. The wrist seems like a logical place as it means I'm not having to source a whole arm and shoulder pads but I imagine there's less room for error.

Then again doing it at the shoulder would mean I could go dual Claw easily too and keep options open if the Command Squad gear changes in future books.

I did it both ways. Shoulder for the heavys because the arm is integrated and at the wrist for the plasma and bolters. They have chunky hands and wrists so it was easy to magnetize.

Let me know how you get on, because this is exactly what I was thinking for expanding the Alpha Legion! A few thoughts:

1) Does the Tartaros set come with 5 'ordinary' pairs and one 'sergeant' pair of shoulder pads? If so, you can do at least one shoulder to go dual claw easily without sourcing extra bits.

2) What are you using for the combi melta/plasma? It is  possible to magnetize wihtin the weapon? Anvil Industry combi-weapons are designed to do this.

3) If magnetizing at the wrist, think about having one magnet 'deep' and one 'standing proud' rather than both flush. That gives it a little bit more resistance to being knocked off.

I am 2 shoulder pads short. So my Autocannon currently dont have shoulder pads. But you might be able to plan it better than I did. :teehee:

@niftyVT what size magnets did you use in the wrists and arms if you don't mind me asking?

Shoulders are: Diameter = 0.125" (3.2mm), Thickness = 0.063" (1.6mm) from MAGCRAFT

Wrists are (and I had to measure with a ruler for these because my receipt only says "2mm magnets"): Diameter = 2mm, Thickness = a tiny bit over 1mm. . .maybe, its hard to measure lol :biggrin.:

I usually get mine from MAGCRAFT (USA based). The shoulder magnets are around $11 USD for 100 with free shipping. The 2mm I got from Warstore (now closed) so those will need a google search.

Man, words cannot express how disappointed I am in the "Conkers". Atramentar have been in the fluff since the ADB trilogy of 2010. The Horus Heresy books started releasing 2012. Fans have been asking for them for close to 8 years, and we get... these. The sculpts aren't awful, but they're certainly not singing to me. The dinky chainblades feel ridiculously under-sized for terminator plate. The legs feel completely uninspired, I guess they were trying to go for a shark-or sea predator vibe there? Why is that the detail that's uniform across them all?

The Nostraman-lion was said to be the uniform of the Atramentar elite, the 1st company all had it adorned on their armor. (assuming on their pads) If these 'Conkers' are part of the parent organization (Which everyone so lovingly loves to point out to me on the NL 30k page) that is the Atramentar, why wouldn't they not show their allegiance and status of being part of the 1st company? "Yeah, they're bullies though". Yeah, most bullies enjoy showing their dominance and power - even if they bullied their way into the Atramentar, they would want to... display that?

Speaking of terminator plate. One of them is standing on a mushy torso, presumably a human one. You know, the 800+ pound transhuman slab of meat and muscle density, before taking into account the weight of a heavy weapon system and CQC weapon, and armor - is being supported on... unaugmented meat and bone. Yeah, that makes sense.

The basing scheme is just awful. Lazy. Doesn't even attempt to disguise itself as part of the rest of the Night Lord range that FW put out. Brown base trim? Did the guy who was painting it up think he was painting Age of Sigmar...? (no offense to AoS, it's just a typical trend I find with AoS base rims) The base paintjob also feels incredibly sterile and boring, but that's par for the "newhammer" 'eavy metal style. I think these would do well to be done in the more 'semi-realism' grittiness of ye old FW when Bligh, Stutchenkas, and others were around.

Eh, my two cents. I'm a cynical Night Lord player, what can I say. I'm glad some like them, they're not for me. I feel like the truly dedicated Night Lords have already done and converted their own with more 'oomph' and flavor to them.

Kind of how I feel with IX Legion getting Crimson Paladins instead of Sanguinary Guard. I mean, cool...I guess.

It's hard for me to distinguish between FW making things up just to push product rather than having a real reason to do it. I know at a Weekender Anuj and Neil had remarked about "who are the Atramentar? Are they the whole 1st Company? Just the Terminators? Just Sev's squad? Something else?" (paraphrasing from memory) so I can see some design space for the Contekar, but it can definitely feel like a cop-out when the Atramentar are what folks have been salivating over for years.

Any hoo, love your passion for your dudes.

I guess that's perspective for you because I think they look great. I am really looking forward to a 360 and am sorely tempted to get a set for my "finished" Night Lords.

My only criticism is the dude who just appears to be holding his weapon upside down so everyone can see the hook at the bottom - that's weird.

Timmy never did pay much attention in melee weapons class...

The best part about the whole Contekar are Atramentar debacle is that it is never mentioned in book 9, in fact in book 9 the word Atramentar only shows up 10 time and is only used in a sentence as either Sevetar the master of the Atramentar or Sevetar and his Atramentar. Furthermore in the initial Warhammer Community Road to Thramas article:

https://www.warhammer-community.com/2020/02/03/the-road-to-thramas-part-3-terror-troopsgw-homepage-post-2fw-homepage-post-1/ which first introduced them to us makes no mention of the Atramentar at all let alone that the Contekar are a unit from within it. the only reference to the Contekar being Atramentar is from a post Anuj did on his personal Facebook on one of the heresy Facebook pages (crusade and heresy from memory but I could be wrong) which, at least to me, comes off as a kneejerk response to try and placate everyone that was annoyed that we didn't get the Atramentar.

Sword Plant.

If you look at the way his arm is positioned, combined with the length of the blades, I'm assuming the "top" of the blade is touching the ground. Basically, it's doing this, but in a more pointy, reverse-grip:

To be honest, it is definitely something odd with what they did.

I mean, I'm probably gonna get myself a squad for my 40k Night Lords (they'll look much nicer to me, imo, in my grittier scheme with minimal highlights). I actually made a squad of "Pseudo Contekar" for my Night Lords with a squad of Chaos Terminators with Combi-Flamers+Lightning Claws and a Heavy Flamer.

Also regarding the torso: 800 pounds? That's a naked space marine mate  That Terminator is probably closer to a ton or more. However, despite the weight, I can see one propping their foot on a torso. Maybe not for long, but the model could be explained away as a "mid-action" pose where he's about to step down on it.

I've been working on a Heavy Support detachment for my Crusade-era World Eaters. Just getting this to line up with the Imperius Dominatus ruleset, so involved adding a 'Decurion' officer unit and an extra Land Raider. Added a little flag, made from the FW World Eater decal sheet, to the Land Raider to denote the HQ vehicle :)

Next up am trying to complete an entire Tactical Company of marines. 100 marines total (!!) including officers, veterans, specialist weapons etc. + have another 6 Rhinos to finish for them also (11 Rhinos total for the company).
