Aumet Revolutionary Army

Raised from the first world that the Red Eyes brought into compliance, the Aumet Revolutionary Army matched the Red Eyes’ zealous devotion to the Great Crusade. Thoroughly indoctrinated by the Red Eyes’ propaganda, they willingly launch themselves at the enemy, throwing as many bodies as required into any combat. The other aspect that the Army is surprisingly skilled at is artillery, forming huge batteries that unleash constant barrages that make up for accuracy with volume. 

The regiment suffers from a suspicion of authority figures who have not served alongside the regiment previously, with insubordination if not under the command of anyone other than the Red Eyes being fairly common.

Thandrian Sons

Discovered late in the Great Crusade, the planet of Thandros was a wasteland, and had little to offer the Imperium except one resource - manpower. The inhabitants of Thandros were hardy, warlike and relatively advanced, producing a variant pattern of lasguns. When they joined the Imperial Army, they formed well-disciplined, attrition specialist units that relished being thrown into the harshest of campaigns.

They got their wish on their first campaign, taking part in the Third Rangdan Xenocide, where they proved their tenacity and iron will in bloody engagements. From then on, they were the first choice for any campaign where high casualties were predicted.

Kallastin Ogryn Auxilia

The Kallastin Ogryn Auxilia are a strange cohort, being viewed with suspicion and distrust by most other Imperial commanders. This is because of Jaacos Nürada’s unorthodox beliefs about the use of abhumans in the Imperial Army, and his even more unorthodox experiments. Despite the criticism of his contemporaries, Nürada could boast an almost unbroken string of military successes. It was these experiments and their successes that drew the Auxilia into the orbit of the Warriors of Peace.

The 163rd Cohort, the Cthonian Basilisks

The men of the Cthonian Basilisks are recognised as excellent tankers. Their campaigning alongside legions who require armoured support has led them to field considerable numbers of armoured vehicles, including a fair number of super-heavy tank companies to balance the legions’ weaknesses. 

 

The Cthonians favour armoured assaults or deep range mechanised raiding forces, with regiments of mechanised infantry or regular infantry serving as close support for their tanks. When available, Cthonian armoured formations will always comprise at least one super-heavy tank such as a Baneblade to support the standard Leman Russ Battle Tanks that comprise most of their armoured formations.

Cagean Drop Troops

Hailing from the world of Cagea, the Cagean Drop Troops are the Imperial Army’s elite drop troopers. Rare within the Imperial Army as a whole, Drop Infantry regiments are a potent strategic asset which many Generals are eager to obtain, and Cagea has become famous for them. A rapid resource force relying on large numbers of aircraft, they naturally became close allies of the Sky Reavers, serving alongside them for most of the latter period of the Great Crusade.

Marshal Adelar Tauber of the Thandrian Sons

 

Adelar Tauber started life as most people on Thandros did, barely having enough to survive. Being born into the underclasses, the only “career” option for Adelar was the army, as the Imperium is always in need of more recruits from Thandros. He joined up as soon as he was old enough, and like thousands of others he entered service into the Thandrian Sons. He served without real distinction in the regiment, his only real achievement being to stay alive through multiple campaigns. As such, he is one of the most experienced in the regiment, which is what led to his elevation to Marshall. Marshal Tauber is known for his dourness and strict discipline, the embodiment of the philosophy of the Thandrian Sons. Other commanders from different regiments view his willingness to engage in high casualty warfare distasteful, but his men expect nothing less.

Aschehunde
The Aschehunde are the Imperial Army regiments raised from worlds located within the Feuerreich. Their name, which translates to the Ash Hounds, is a reference to the predatory canines that inhabit Feuerstadt's wilderness. They are characterized by their close ties to the Obsidian Guard in addition to their incredible discipline, determination, and love of overwhelming firepower.

 

History

Their origins lay in the Feuerreich Crusade, as vast numbers of troops were needed to support the newly christened Obsidian Guard in their campaign. Over time the recruitment, training, equipment, and tactics of these scratch units were formalized into their present state.

 

Equipment

Each Ash Hound soldier is equipped in a manner similar to the Solar Auxilia, wearing heavy carapace armor and wielding a high powered lasrifle. They also carry several grenades, an entrenching tool, sword bayonet, cooking tools, and vox beads as well as their weekly allotment of rations. Officers will carry the rifle as a primary weapon and a chainsword for close combat.

Korrikan Steam Troopers
The Korrikan Steam Troopers are an Imperial Army regiment in the Imperial Army during the Great Crusade and Five Ruins. Recruited from the dark Industrial World of Korrikan, the troopers are drawn from the hardy workforce of the manufactorums, being well-versed in weapon and machine maintenance. Despite their world’s relative obscurity, the Steam Troopers have become a well-regarded regiment and are fiercely proud of their regiment’s history and reputation.

Having fought during the Great Crusade for over a century and on numerous different worlds and campaigns, the Korrikan Steam Troopers are veterans in their preferred style of warfare. Modifying their standard-use vehicles to fit their unique specifications, they combine heavy use of mechanised assaults and close range infantry firepower.
The Korrikan Steam Troopers are dressed in mostly black uniforms, the better to blend in in poorly lit environments, with which company and detachment adding its own coloured sashes and undercoats. The badge of the Korrikan Steam Troopers is a looming white industrial tower, with a circular cog around it.

Current Commander of the Korrikan Steam Troopers. Fearless, cold and intolerant of disobedience or laxity, she has many decades of experience both in the PDF and Imperial Army, and has worked her way up the ranks.

Korrikan

The world of Korrikan is a relatively newly populated world in Segmentum Ultima, having been colonised early during the Great Crusade. Designated as an Industrial World, the focus on the construction was the development of large manufactorums to produce minor machine parts for the vehicles needed upon the nearby Forge World of Ryza. As a result, not much attention was paid to the housing of the workers, and as large numbers of workers were moved there by the nascent Departmento Munitorum many slums sprung up. The wealthy industralists of the world who owned the factories were able to build large houses and public buildings for their own aggrandisement, but they are simply a pinhead in comparison to the vast majority of dark, dingly slums and underworlds.

Vestein and the Sanguinary Host

Hailing from the Feral World of Gharhar, the Sanguinary Host were troops raised by the Red Eyes to act as little more than shock troops. Led by War Chief Vestein, the Host are a savage and primitive people, deeply superstitious and enjoying fighting and killing. Eschewing ranged firearms, the Sanguinary Host makes use of their traditional tribal melee weapons, upgraded by the Red Eyes to be effective against armour.

The Sanguinary Host started as merely a tribe on the world of Gharhar, fighting with other tribes for dominance and worshipping the tribal god Khazru the Mighty. They were a particularly vicious tribe, known for the terrible punishments inflicted on any of their captives and their large-scale raids. That was when the Imperium arrived to conquer the planet, and it was the Red Eyes who discovered Gharhar. The primitive tribesmen were overawed by the golden Astartes that descended to the world, and Vestein bowed to these godly beings. The Red Eyes met with Vestein, and he and his tribe came under the special observation of the legion. The tribes that refused compliance were vanquished by Vestein with the aid of his new allies, with many bloody clashes. Vestein agreed to lead his tribe’s warriors into the stars to find new foes to fight, informed by the Red Eyes that there would always be new foes and infinite glory to be gained.

For most aspirants, failure to pass the initial trials to becoming an Astartes leaves a few paths to choose from. Those who will not be deterred from serving among the ranks of their desired Legion, becoming a Legion serf is an honorable way to serve directly under the command of those they sought, even if their body was broken during the trials. A few young men might see the trials as a wake-up call and simply choose to return to their families and civilian life. But for the last path of those who will not be denied the call of battle, the Imperial Army has a number of regiments who often serve with the Astartes. It was not unheard of for Astartes commanders, even the fabled Primarchs, to repeatedly 'borrow' certain regiments which had met their high expectations. 

 

The Akaan'adiike regiments were a number of units that technically fell under the purview of the Imperial Army, but recruited only from failed Shadow Warrior aspirants who had survived the trials intact enough for combat duty. Since they had hailed from the same lineage, the Shadow Warriors treated the Akaan'adiike regiments as their own forces and kin. When the Ash-Blooded recalled most of his forces in view of the succession crisis, the Akaan'adiike regiments also made the journey home. 

 

Second Lieutenant Ka Bevync’lyv was an unusual case for a Akaan'adiike officer. The trials had taken an arm from him, but his fiery spirit refused to let his disability to hold him back from joining the regiments. The same Astartes training sergeant who had seen Ka's failure saw enough potential in him to approve the young man for a bionic replacement only to be retained if he could pass the regiment induction program. Ka did, and used that same spirit to rise through the ranks.

Ge’solad

 

For the Shadow Warriors legion, the Akaan’adiike served a secondary, important purpose. Despite the warrior nature of the people of Keld’abe, not all successfully completed their Astartes training and implantation. However, these failed aspirants still have a use for the Ash-Blooded. Redirected into the Akaan’adiike regiments, they are organised into units called Ge’solad, bringing Astartes-level training to the mortal regiments of the Imperial Army.

 

The Ge’solad are equipped to mirror their half-brothers in the legion, with the jump packs and downsided Beskor’kad of a Shadow Warrior but the Carapace armour and laspistol of the Imperial Army. Their gear benefits from the Warriors’ dedication to their armour, being crafted in the same ritual as the power armour of the Astartes.

 

These units hold a precarious place in the hierarchy of the Shadow Warriors and Imperial Army, being both respected and looked down on by the legion as closer to the legion than the Imperial Army but lesser than an Astartes, and viewed with suspicion by other Imperial Army units and commanders as being “half-seeds” who belong in neither group.

The Kimmastrean Immortal Crusaders were an Imperial Army regiment during the Great Crusade and Five Ruins. A proud and honourable regiment, the Crusaders would serve on numerous campaigns during the later half of the Great Crusade before returning to their home system following the Vanishing. They would find themselves relegated to garrison duty, defending the nearby Hive World of Cierus V. Resentment over this decision would fester within the regiment, until a messenger brought them an offer of proving their martial prowess.

Regimental Appearance

The Kimmastrean Immortal Crusaders are known for their heavily armoured infantry, even the most basic infantryman equipment in carapace armour. The more elite elements of the regiment would be equipped with a lighter form of power armour.

Once the Crusaders joined the forces of Chaos, spikes became a common feature of their uniform, particularly on their backpacks and shoulder pads.

Colours & Livery

The Kimmastrean Immortal Crusaders wear dark green armour over dark teal clothing, with the more ornate armour having bronze trim. The regiment’s symbol is a sword bisecting a crescent moon.
