Welcome to part five of the Blood Angels Unit of the Week Series!

Following the release of the 8th edition Codex, there is no better time to discuss all the units we have access to. Each week a different unit will appear, with the idea being that we discuss how best to use that model on the battlefield. Where part one will focus on the unique BA units and part two will focus on BA units that are new to this edition of the Codex, part three will discuss how to get the best use the generic units from the past that are still with us (and that many of us have in our armies still), and part four will discuss the Legends units that we still own and love. Finally, part five will be dedicated to the reinforcements from Forge World.

Note, this isn't to lament any nerfs, etc, from previous editions; the rules are as they are so try to unlock its potential for those who wish to use them all the same. Similarly, this thread is only for using the option being discussed; it matters not if you feel something is a better choice as such comments aren't constructive to the topic and shall be removed.

Without further ado, here's this week's entry:

What are you thoughts here folks? How best would you use a Vindicator Laser Destroyer (found in Imperial Armour - Index: Forces of the Adeptus Astertes)?

  • To compliment a list, or to build a list around? Will the beta rules affect your list(s)?
  • Will you be running multiple units? Are you taking the hunter-killer missile?
  • How are you making use of Power Capacitor with Volley fire, or are you just opting for Overcharge fire?
  • Are you buffing this unit? If so, how?
  • Stratagems of note?

Over to you.

I think the best way to use this would be to go full ham on overcharge fire. For anti tank duties the max damage of the two modes (assuming power capacitor on volley fire) is identical, but the overcharge is more likely to wound. The danger of mortal wounds can easily be offset by having reroll auras nearby.

I would agree with you t-dog, however only as long as it's on it's best damage characteristic. When it's performance drops, I'd go quantity over quality and take advantage of the Power Capacitors rule.
I also think that it definitely needs supporting aura/buffs to push those few quality shots through. Recitation of Focus and Captain's re-rolls first come to my mind.

With the difference being S9/10, it's only more likely to wound T5 models, of which very few have more than 3 wounds, right?

I tink volley fire would be more effective overall. If you have to move, overcharge efficiency drops way off but it's better than volley fire as you can't fire twice, so overcharge is better then. Really needs full rerolls, so having seth nearby could be useful.
