Engine Kill 3 - Cerastus Knights

Recommended Posts

Not much to see here considering pictures of these models have been around and that we've already had the rules for ages.

We may see that Knight House show up in Defense of Ryza, but aside from them clearly being Traitor there's not much to go off of. It's another clashing purple scheme to hang out with Vulpa's red/purple and Devine's purple/purple. Now we have blue/purple!

I guess it might be House Ioeden from the list in the back of the Titandeath supplement, but maybe not.

Disappointing and lazy. As much as I love those models, with a month wait, it wouldn't have taken much to show us something new (some info on the Knight houses in Defence of Ryza, for example).

It should fit right in with the Traitor legios essentially being the red/black everywhere scheme lol

@marshal

I’ve gotta echo that. I understand that they can’t cast stuff or make orders just yet, but you’d think they’d be working on fluff/writing or hell even modeling new sculpts during this time.

Makes me wonder if they’re all on furlough or under strict orders not to work to get govt funding. Remember leakycheese (on YT) mentioning that his employer said they can’t do anything during this time in order to qualify for some govt assistance.

Other than that, don’t know why they can’t be writing stuff up on a laptop in their home or sculpting.

Previously, Knight Household players fielding long-ranged Lances made up of Questoris Knights with battle cannons and avenger gatling cannons had to rely on their solid but still potentially treacherous Command value of 3+ to get those all-important Lance orders off.

Not if you used Cerastus lancers to lead your Questoris banners - not to mention making your own Castigator is pretty easy with a Questoris gatling gun body and pair of barrels...or even just one barrel.  I'm really surprised this variant has taken this long to release.

Sadly I will probably buy this kit anyway even though I don't need it but do wish this was an upgrade kit to the existing box along with a smattering of new weapons and bits like the Atrapos weapons/carapace and some fancier bits to embellish your king.

They show Makabius in the first picture... this gives me hope that I'll finally get rules despite being the first or second Knight House shown.

Rules-wise, the Castigator and Acheron aren't too impressive, but we've known that for a while now. I'll still get them because I'm a sucker.

Well it's fine. Nothing we haven't seen before, but that's been the case for these articles for a while hasn't it? The idea is to persuade us to buy the kits, as if they needed to!

I've got 6 Questoris avengers so I might eventually try out the lance of 6 wardens led by a couple of castigators. It does sound vaguely useful, perhaps paired up with an Acastus or two to hit things once the shields are down. That would certainly add a new dimension to knight armies, with at least some sort of a ranged threat as well as melee.

I'm less sure about the Acheron. I can see it doing ok, especially in mixed banners taken as support. The idea would be to have a lancer to improve ion shields and to hit on the charge, with an Acheron or two to fill out the lance. I think you can make a case that this would be better than a banner of pure lancers. It might also work nicely as a Seneschal's banner, so long as they keep their standard nice and far away from the flamers.

So far I've painted a grand total of 1 knight, and probably not in the scheme I plan to keep. So I'm quite a way off actually fielding a household force, even when we're allowed to play again. As such I'm currently looking at models as painting projects more than usual, and gaming pieces a bit less. There's no denying how cool these knights are, so they will be a fun project.

No - aside from the announcement of the series, all other Engine Kill articles have shown us things we hadn't seen prior (e.g. Ursus Claws, Defence of Ryza preview)

Fair enough. Presumably all the release schedules and stuff have had to be pushed back. This article is quite like the last aeronautica flight plan article, in that it "revealed" models we've seen already. At least for aeronautica they were able to show these models' rules, but of course we know the Cerastus rules already so they couldn't do that.

In the absence of anything new to show they do then talk a fair bit about how you might use these things, and the advice is arguably quite good. So overall, given what they had to work with, I think they've made a decent article. There's nothing really there for people who've played the game a lot, but honestly I've never looked to WHC for in-depth tactical analysis of any game.

Do you all remember scoping the rumor sites for tidbits people made up and not knowing about releases until they hit the GW page on Saturday mornings every few months?  I know it's GW tradition to post battle reports in WD where the new army always wins a close game but what about video battle reports like you see all over Youtube with models before they're released?  Would that be something y'all would find interesting?

If you subscribe to twitch or can watch live in another time zone. It’d be nice to have that on demand and it might be more effective at drumming up interest than an article (sometimes written by someone with no grasp of the rules). Just saying.

Here it is: http://www.twitch.tv/warhammer/v/551347107?sr=a&t=4808s

I don't know how this report will be. I'm quite particular about battle reports, I've been watching a lot during The Event, and some are better than others. My favourite channel so far are Tabletop Standard's. The production isn't too overdone, (and gets better as he goes along) and he has some great terrain.

Anyone got any recommendations?

I like his too. I think a video like that showing off new models in action would work better than an article describing the stats of a model we’ve had for a year.

30k channel has some good ones and finally showed a nemesis in action. I’ve been waiting for someone to play with one or the psi Titan.

I think 30k channel has had the best display boards/camera angles/data card pop ups but the volume is so small as a result.

I wish MWG/guerilla games would put out some nice matches as well. It’s been pretty dead on that front.

Have the 30k ones improved? I started their first one on YouTube, and it was really stop start and not very engrossing.

I think that was pretty early when they made them. Much more streamlined and the guys are quicker for the siege of Rhodax.

One of the Solaria ones was wrong with the Corsair maniple but that was before the FAQ I think. Guy subbed 3 warhounds instead of reavers (within the rules) but gave them all the ability to moonwalk like reavers per the maniple rules. New FAQ says units can be subbed, which was no problem, but they can’t get the rules specific to the class of Titan.

Yeah but it's still OK with Corsair, as Corsair's trait doesn't specify Reavers. It's a maniple you can sub anything into and retain the maniple trait benefit no matter the titan class.

Ah egg on my face then good catch. That’s just odd how it was executed then when things like the Reaver/Warhound combo specifies that the Reaver gets a free shot then. Probably just oversight but I’ll defer to the RAW
