Scale difference between old FW models and new plastic ones?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Help needed. I was wondering how big exactly the difference between the old and new models is exactly. For example: How big is the old Forgeworld resin Thunderbolt compared to its new plastic counterpart?

Do you guys have some pics to show comparing the sizes?

I'm speculating that the new ones are about 25% bigger, is that a correct estimation?

Cheers!

You couldn't be further from the truth I'm afraid, malika. the new plastic thunderbolts sold by Games Workshop are designed for the Aeronautica specialist game, and are barely larger than a space marine. Forgeworld's Thunderbolt meanwhile is the traditional 40k scale, and are significantly larger as a result.

Hmm, not this whole debate again. Adeptus Titanicus isn't 8mm. Yes, a Space Marine is about 8mm tall, but the scale is more akin to 1/4th of 40k scale.

That would make it about 6-7mm, then? (assuming a regular person is 6' and a Space Marine is 7'6")  Obviously, for any confusion, it doesn't help that GW said it's 8mm (doh).

Doesn't help that GW were a bit ... variable ... with the scale of things in the original Epic stuff ... not sure what the original AI was scaled like, but Mandragola's answer is likely to be the most helpful. :)

Well 40k vehicles and infantry aren't scaled correctly next to one another, Landraiders should be the size of a shoebox.  I guess you could say that all vehicles across the ranges are scaled smaller than they should be but I look at the AI Thunderbolts next to an AT Warlord titan and I can't believe they're the same scale.

I would not guess a percentage of size comparison because it's always difficult to get that right, but the difference between old FW Aeronautica in resin and the new plastic is massive.

I took a few potato pictures when I sold what I had a while back.

Their is a picture with the resin thunderbolt and the plastic ones together and a picture with fighta-bommer. I would say the fighta-bommer could pass for dakkajet in the new scale.
