Alpha Legion Cult Units?

Hi all,

I was looking at painting up a few alphas and adding some cult units to them, or using my Thousand Sons Rubrics with AL rules as a CSM force, however I've been out of Chaos for a while.

Am I right in thinking I can:

1) Take a unit of say, noise marines and have their [LEGION] keyword as [ALPHA LEGION]

2) Move them before the start of the gameusing Forward Operatives?

Is this a useful thing to do? It seems so, but I feel like I'm missing something!

Thoughts on this, and Alpha Cult units are appreciated,

Xen

1) Yes. You can take all of the cult marines as Alpha Legion (or any chaos space marines legion), BUT they have to be elites, they cannot be taken as troops. Only Emperor's Children can take Noise Marines as troops and so on. Also they have to have their corresponding mark.

2) Yes. Any <Alpha Legion><Infantry> can be the target of that strategem, and a theoretical Alpha Legion Noise Marine unit would be AL and infantry.

As far as thoughts, I'm not sure haha.

Alpha Legion Noise Marines and Khorne Berzerkers were all the rage (hurhurhur) early in 8th. You can absolutely do it and it can still be pretty powerful if your opponent isn't aware of the danger. The issue is that they'll be Elites and you'll be using a lot of CPs.

You could place a Cultist unit or two in front of the Noise Marines, use the concealment stratagem to force your opponent to gun down 60 Cultists if they even want to touch the Noise Marines, then unload twice with Endless Cacophony if they don't. Then shoot again when they die.

Thanks all, unsure if they'll ever be used in game, but I want to make models that can at least make a legal army!

Sneaky - is that forward operative-ing the cultists also?

I would - it'll cost 4+ CPs just in Forward Operatives/Conceal, but even if you don't go first, herding some bodies in front of your Noise Marines to get extra dakka ain't bad. For added hilarity, use a Dark Apostle to make the Cultists -1 to hit, and if you go first, cast Miasma of Pestilence/Delightful Agonies on them to make them -2/5+ FnP
