BT LRC/Centurion Rush - 2k ITC Tournament

I'm planning a list for an upcoming tournament held in Tabletop Simulator. My basic gameplan is centered around a Land Raider full of Assault Centurions, together with their character support and a squad of Aggressors, to do the heavy lifting. I've also got a fair number of forward-deploying units to screen my advance and harass enemy units that would threaten that LRC and its contents.

Relics, warlord traits, and litanies can be selected differently in every game, but most of this will probably be constant. The main things that might change are on the Phobos Captain: I could swap in Shoot And Fade to get a unit of Incursors deep behind their lines and tag something troublesome (eg, artillery), or Marksman's Honours if they have some 4-wound infantry that really need to die. The Crusader Helm can be swapped for Witchseeker Bolts against psyker-heavy lists.

I've run versions of this list before, and had some token long-range firepower, but not enough to really matter, so I decided to drop that and lean more heavily into the Phobos/scout element. I worry about flyers, but hopefully massed bolters/flamers and two flying power fists could knock out a Doom Scythe in a pinch.

Suggestions are welcome!

The tournament wrapped up this week, so I want to give something of an after-action report about this list. I went 3-2 against a reasonable variety of lists (Thousand Sons, Imperium soup, Sisters, Tyranid/GSC/IG soup, and Tau). Overall I think the list worked fairly well; I never felt too punished by the lack of ranged anti-tank or long-range shooting, and I had enough melee power and close-range fire to shred anything I could get close to. However, the lack of long range or very fast movement means that I need to deploy near the center of the board to have any hope of controlling it.

The Invictor turned out to be a perfect distraction carnifex: in four games out of five, it died first turn, and always drew fire before the LRC. This wasn't a bad outcome - it meant that my LRC almost always did its job of delivering the Centurions. Still, I think I might get more mileage out of a Redemptor, since with Duty Eternal it could soak even more fire, and it helps lean into the "lots of bolter fire" strength of this list.

I dont think the hammers on the scouts are worth it but could be a psychological weapon if you have the first turn.

Surprisingly, these actually worked out OK. I tended to play them pretty cagey so they couldn't get shot first turn, and forward-deploying thunder hammers hiding behind terrain have a lot of board presence even when they aren't killing things. Still, I don't think I'd take them again, probably trading them out for Intercessors.

I don't think the Phobos Captain turned out to be worthwhile. Witchseeker Bolts were cool against Thousand Sons, but the rest of the time I wasn't impressed, and the Crusader Helm was underwhelming even when the big squad of Incursors got to fully use the buff. If I had some Eliminators to go with him, he might be better, but a single damage-3 sniper shot doesn't accomplish much. A second Chaplain would be more useful.

The last thing I might change would be to swap Helbrecht for a chapter master with a jump pack. His +1S aura is fantastic, and getting the chapter master upgrade without spending CP is awesome, but on foot, his aura often wasn't there when I needed it. With the Crusader Helm and Fervent Acclamation, a 12" aura of full rerolls and +1 to charge sounds lovely.

Overall, if I run this list one more time in 8e, I think I'll use this:

Do you think the lost mobility and increased defensiveness of the Redemptor will preclude it from being as effective a distraction? It is not an immediate pressing threat like the Invictor, and being almost as hard to kill as the LRC might well change enemy priorities? I would certainly ignore the Redemptor and go after the LRC to stop the Centurions.

Yes that is the biggest factor for sure. Being 9" away will rattle your opponent. Being easier to kill is only really secondary.

Although the Redemptor does manage 8" so respectable movement.

... of course you could put it in a Drop Pod. Now that would be tasty.
