Where are the 13th? (Spoilers)

Brothers, apologies if this has already been asked, I have been absent from the forums for a long time and couldn't find a topic going back through the pages.

 

Where are Bulveye, Njal and the 13th company?

 

In ashes of prospero which is after the fall of cadia and the great rift, but before the psychic awakening, Njal rescued the 13th company including their wolf lord from the crystal labyrinth on prospero. Since then I am not aware of any mention of any of them in any novels or campaign books. What has happened to them?

 

I love the idea of a heresy era army of wolves in 40k with a seriously badass wolf lord who was huscarl to russ before the emperor came. Plus the idea of them expanding the wulfen range would be very cool for us.

 

Any thoughts?

atm, the only 13th to return are the wulfen officially.

Yeah, Ashes of Prospero just seems to have been ignored by all Fluff going forward. Pity, because I'd have preferred it to getting Primaris.

Except the damned "micro-grenade dispenser" which is apparently carried by every Wolf, holds a limitless supply of grenades (warp portal?) so small that handfuls of them can be chucked at once like tossing popcorn to birds, yet each has the destructive potential of a full-size grenade [...]Also never described in any other source, ever, to my knowledge.

 

That was how grenades were described in Rogue Trader (unless you were talking unusual ones like vortex etc.). Pound coin-sized grenades were a common technology. They turn up in pre-Black Library books, like Space Marine and Inquisitor. Since Bill King wrote at the time, I imagine he pulls his info and inspiration from there.

In the 40k novel "Wolf's Honour" of the old Space Wolf book series by William King / Lee Lightner, Ragnar meets the 13th, led by Bulveye on a demon planet, still hunting the Thousand Sons.

... their rune priest has learned to WALK THE ENTIRE COMPANY THROUGH THE WARP.

To be fair, that was actually just something 13th Company Rune Priests could do, not something specific to Bulveye's RP. When they were introduced in EoT 'The Gate' was their unique psychic power in game, with Rune Priest gating being the fluff explanation for how warbands of the 13th got around without access to ships.

 

Also, Ragnar didn't meet the entire 13th in that book, just Bulveye's band (he introduces himself as 'Bulveye, axe man of Russ and lord of this warband', not the lord of the 13th Company). This was also before (and probably created) the 'who led the 13th Company, Bulveye or Jorin' canon messed up. They even directly state that they need to do the diversionary shenanigans in the finale because only a few 13th are present, with Bulveye saying 'if we had the whole company here we could just charge right down their throats and dare the bastards to stand in our way, but there is only us'.

Is there a source for this? Please say it isn't so

My discussions with Rob Simmons at GW is the source. We discussed and pretty much it boils down to "if it isn't in a codex, it's soft canon". This isn't a series, like HH, or a "well titled" book, like Lord's of Silence. The events of Ashes of Prospero are not reflected in any codex, we have already gone past the timeline I believe also. This means that it is not considered "hard canon". Which means GW could play on it later, but will most likely be lost to time and forgotten or even retconned. Edited May 26, 2020 by Jarl Caldersson

Whilst it’s not a lot, there is a brief mention of Bulveye in this, which I think is the first acknowledgment since Ashes itself.

Yeah this is very disappointing, hopefully they will pick it up and run with it some point in the future though. We will just have to see I guess

IIRC Simon Grant responded to a FB post in the SW group awhile ago that Ashes of Prospero was no longer considered canon or even soft canon.

I thought so too, but I can not find the post so I thought I was going crazy. So the only hard evidence I have is my conversation with him.

From what I recall from statements here and elsewhere by BL folks, if you don't hear about something ever again and the timeline has moved past the event, then it is probably okay to assume it "never happened" or may be overwritten by a more "correct" story. Sort of sounds like what happened with Ashes.
