A Short Kill Team Project

Recommended Posts

With my Adeptus Titanicus forces fully complete, and still wanting to hobby with this abundance of free time, I figured I'd start up a short plog. I've never played Kill Team as I've generally preferred skirmish games with a stronger sense of narrative progression. However making skirmish warbands is something I greatly enjoy, so I figured I could have some fun and convert every model, since I'll only need 8-10 or so.

I ended up picking Death Watch for their armaments and flexibility yet didn't particularly want to do actual Death Watch. As such I opted to go for a more utilitarian spec-ocs feel with unmarked marines no doubt with their own private call signs, otherwise largely unadorned.

I also wanted to use the Primaris bodies to convert up bigger marines as I prefer the scale, but came up against the interesting issue that the team can mix both normal astartes and primaris together. As such, I ended up using Aggressor legs with the upper half of a Primaris marine to keep their chunky aesthetic. By keeping the Primaris backpacks and helmets I feel they look distinctive enough to be relatively recognisable. For the normal marines I ended up replacing the gorget, (usually) removing the chest ornamentation, removing the extra lip on the kneepads and using the slightly less bulky older MKVII backpacks. I'm liking the look so far.

The one painted marine is a conversion from a while back that I made for a friend's Black crusade rpg character - he wielded an autocannon, which has now been restored to the chunky frag cannon profile.

Overall I'm 1 marine short, another frag cannon wielder, from being able to run two distinct 5-men kill teams, though I need both another Primaris body as well as the cannon itself. If I can get my hands on a few more I'll likely make another couple of outliers like a vanguard Veteran, or maybe even a Terminator.

I like how clean ansld serious removing the decorations from the chest armour makes them look.

My only issue is the ones that are mixed with the blue legs (pardon my ignorance I'm still learning all the model names) kinda look like they're regular dudes riding bionic legs.

Just a tad out of place.

Mind you that maydisappear the second you undercoat and they're all uniform colour.

Either way, looking good.

Cheers PAF! Yeah, that's probably mainly the different coloured plastics.

I primed the primaris comms specialist and painted up a leg to help me decide which scheme to go for. As I'd done grey for my old rogue trader project I figured I'd give it another try but with more time put in for the gradients, cleaner highlights and so on. I also did a final highlight of white - not sure if I want to do that for everything, as it pops a remarkable amount more than the grey seer highlight before it. I guess I'll get a better idea once more of the model is done.

An update already - did more painting yesterday than I expected and took another progress pic partway through as well. Just the base the go and this comms guy is all done, so I'll likely start on one of the maul and board marines next.

Cheers noigrim!

I worked on one of the maul and shield marines today and managed to get him done, though I wasn't too sure what to do with the inside of the shield. In the end I just glazed it down to be a bit darker than the base armour. I also elected not to have any blood splatter on the shield, but it was tempting.

I reckon I'll tackle the infernus heavy bolter next.

Partially in owe of the monochromatic scheme of your kill team and how good you’re making the white and greys and shades of look effortless and so gritty and realistically weathered. They’re gonna look pretty sick all together once finished. What color bases are you gonna go for?! Edited by Yosef Hausakluif

Thank you! I did end up adding a red stripe to the chest plate to help break up the mass of grey somewhat thanks to some feedback.

The bases are very likely going to end up painted with some form of khaki since I find it to be a good neutral base that goes with pretty much anything. I also managed to paint the infernus heavy bolter wielder today.
