Welcome to part four of the Blood Angels Unit of the Week Series!

Following the release of the 8th edition Codex, there is no better time to discuss all the units we have access to. Each week a different unit will appear, with the idea being that we discuss how best to use that model on the battlefield. Where part one will focus on the unique BA units and part two will focus on BA units that are new to this edition of the Codex, part three will discuss how to get the best use the generic units from the past that are still with us (and that many of us have in our armies still), and part four will discuss the Legends units that we still own and love.

Note, this isn't to lament any nerfs, etc, from previous editions; the rules are as they are so try to unlock its potential for those who wish to use them all the same. Similarly, this thread is only for using the option being discussed; it matters not if you feel something is a better choice as such comments aren't constructive to the topic and shall be removed.

Without further ado, here's this week's entry:

What are you thoughts here folks? How best would you use the Techmarine on Bike datasheet found in Warhammer Legends: Blood Angels?
  • To compliment a list, or to build a list around? Will the beta rules affect your list(s)?
  • What units (if any) will you be babysitting?
  • Servo-arm, servo-harness, or conversion bearmer?
  • What additional weapons are you taking and does the above affect how you run them?
  • How are you using Blessing of the Omnissiah and Turbo Boost effectively?
  • Are you buffing this unit? If so, how? Suitable for Warlord duties?
  • Stratagems of note?

Over to you.

Please note that Techmarines on foot should be discussed elsewhere.

I'm actually building (kitbash) one now for my planned old school list that's in limbo till 9th drops.

Plan is to keep the trusty poweraxe, buy the servo harness, and give him a combi weapon.

Then you have a 100ish point character with a flamer, a twin linked bolter, an assault 1 plasma pistol, and a combi of your choice, with a 2+ native bs, a 2+ save, and can zip around with a 14" move repairing dreads and taking on small infantry squads all by his lonesome.

Good spot to put the Veritus Vitae relic, and potentially artisan of war to make his power axe Damage 2 and let him go punk lesser characters.

I had a biker techmarine a few editions ago (fifth I think) when they could be upgraded to a master of the Forge. Converted an attack bike to mount a Servitor operated conversion beamer with the techmarine driving the bike. As the beamer is more powerful when further away, mounting it on a bike makes it much more useful as you can always drive further away from the enemy so as to melt them better.

Techmarine on bike is the cheapest +2BS option for taking Quake Bolts. Gives him the speed needed to get in range.
Would look ace on one of those new blocky bikes for the 9th edition...
