World Eater HQs

Recommended Posts

I am currently working on a world eaters army. I have a patrol detachment consisting of a Terminator Lord, Khârn, 12 Berzerkers, a rhino and 10 terminators all painted up. Im in the process of expanding to a battalion, I'm painting another 12 berzerkers right now and after that will work on 2 more rhinos so I can have 3 squads of 8 each with a rhino.

I am wondering what HQ to add next? Initially I thought a dark apostle with soul tearer portent looked good but he cant do his prayers from inside a rhino and if he is on foot he cant keep up. Also considering a demon prince but not sure if the Khorne non spell casting version is worth it. Maybe an exalted champion is the best way to go? Please let me know what you all think.

Exalted Champion, without a doubt. Keep him cheap - no more than a few points on weapons. He's not a beatstick himself; it's his aura that makes him worth it.

Another possibility is the Lord Discordant. Not much more expensive than a Maulerfiend, but puts out so many attacks and has a 2+ save. Give him the Talisman of Burning Blood and let him rip up the field. Works well when flanked with a couple of daemon engines, like Maulerfiends or Venomcrawlers.

My Daemon Prince rarely dies and takes out multiple units a game, he easily does the most work of any of my HQs. In my experience the Exalted Champions lack versatility and I get more out of generic Chaos Lords as they are better able to run off and do their own thing if necessary. I don't have much experience with the Lord Discordant but they are beastly and if you plan on going the Daemon Engine route for the non-Berserker half of your army I'd grab 2-3 of them. Do you give him the sword or the claws?

I wasnt really considering a lord discordant because to be honest the thought of painting one intimidates me.

Wolfenstein, my Daemon Prince Azrath is my favorite HQ. I take him with the axe because it's fun to hack chunks out of large targets. My second-favorite HQ is my Exalted Champion. His buff is very nice indeed.

I always run him with claws... which is about 10 attacks. I usually run him with the Lord of Hatred trait which makes wounds rerollable and practically guarantees that all of his attacks land. As for painting the Lord Discordant, I think the daemon engines are the most fun models to paint in our range. You also don't need to glue the rider on as he will sit on it on his own and being able to remove him makes it easier to paint.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I think will go with a bare bones exalted champ next, just because otherwise I have 3 HQs with essentially the same aura. However, a demon prince is definitely in my future plans. I will have to see how 9th plays out but if there isnt too much of a penalty for taking another detachment I would like to work some sorcerers in somehow for some warptime action.

I'd recommend putting a chainaxe on the exalted champ.  It's only 1 point and you can upgrade it to Gorefather for some serious mortal wound output.  I also like to occasionally give mine a power axe with the Berzerker Glaive relic, which gives him some more survivability with a 5+ feel no pain

My Terminator Lord has a chainaxe so I usually give him gorefather but even so I dont think you can really go wrong with a chainaxe for 1 point.

Woo! Finally finished these guys (I am a slow painter but in my defense I have finished some other stuff too). I went with a daemon prince with sword (probably should have gone double claws but I wanted to use Z'aall the wrathful) 2 exalted champs, one with power axe/PP and one with power maul/BP and Zhufor who most of the time will just be a regular termie lord. I figure the power maul guy can work as a dark apostle too.

I'm not the greatest painter but I am happy with how they turned out.

Edit: tried to put a picture in here but apparently it did not work. will try to figure that out.

My current force has Khârn, a Terminator Lord, and a Warpsmith. I figured since I have so many vehicles in the force, the Warpsmith would be useful. Two helbrutes, three daemon engines, and two rhinos.

The biggest problem I've had with an Exalted Champion is the lack of an invul save. If I do run one it's a dual chainsword wielding guy, he's getting even better when we get -1AP chainswords. Though having a cheap chainaxe to bump his strength is a good option.

I only have 2 rhinos. would love to add some helbrutes but you cant find them anywhere right now!

Edit: I also have Khârn, he is my favorite Chaos model by far but he just doesnt seem to do enough on the tabletop. Weapon strength 6 is kind of meh for such an epic character.

Once characters can no longer benefit from their own rerolls, Khârn is going to look a look better.

Also, remember that he could pop VoTLW if needed against high toughness speed bumps.
