Finishing off my Deathwing. Should I add anything else?

I'm looking to finish off my Dark Angels army, and I'm pretty much where I want to be with my Deathwing. Just curious if there is anything else I should add. The Deathwing contingent was never meant to be a full army unto itself, I'm more of a combined arms type of player.

This is what I currently have for my Deathwing:

Belial
Terminator Librarian
Ancient

Apothecary

Champion

Deathwing Knights Squad (5 man) x1

Deathwing Terminator Squad w/Assault Cannon (5 man) x2

Deathwing Terminator Squad w/Cyclone ML (5 man) x1

Deathwing Terminator Squad w/Plasma Cannon (or Heavy Flamer) (5 man) x1

Land Raider Crusader x1

Contemptor Dreadnoughts x2

the 4 Terminator squads are made up from Dark Vengeance models with some modification to fit the alternate weapons. The two Contemptors are the plastic ones (still on sprue), and I plan to have them armed like Deathwing Terminators, i.e. Kheres Cannon, Fist, and Storm bolters. I am thinking about buying the Cyclone ML weapon upgrades from Forgeworld and making both of them Relic Contemptors. Thought it would look cool if both the Contemptors were armed with the main iconic terminator weapons, Assault Cannons, Fists, Storm bolters, and Cyclone Missile Launchers.

Is there anything else I should get? I'm not really worried about points or anything as I play what I like, not what is optimal. Would just like opinions if I should add anything else. Not really wanting to add any Forgeworld (other than the Contemptor Cyclones) models, as I want to keep it with the Terminator armor theme.

Thoughts?

This advice is a bit old hat now as 9th is right around the corner.

Deathwing isn't a competitive build as you know, but Azreal is probably the best HQ choice going for them (and now canonically part of the Deathwing)

Dreadnoughts are also the only backfield unit they have. - Unless Conemptors have lascannons?

Now now, i won't be so harsh about it, since Topic Creator doesn't seem to care about the efficiency and more for collecting purposes... and no Deathwing can be completed w/o the Trifecta of Terminators, Venerable Dreadnought, and Land Raider.... from the old bygone days to now, no matter what those fancy schmancy Mk. X marines gonna say.

a Deathwing without Venerable Dreadnought ? HERESY i say (yes i know you have 2 Contemptor... but they are not VENERABLE  :biggrin.:  ).

Well, they will be is I run them as Relics ;)

Cool army, Brother!

How about anorher LRC?

Thought about this, and it might still be a possibility. It would help with my need for symmetry... 2 is better than 1...

Yeah, with 9e on the horizon, its one of the reasons I am working on this project. Not from a rules point, but out of fear of the eventual phase-out of the Firstborn line.

And yes, contemptors can take Lascannons and Twin Autocannons, but neither really fits my "giant Terminator" theme I was aiming for with the Contemptors

Yup, the Trifecta was something I was aiming for originally. That's why I have the LRC. I got the two plastic Contemptor sprues a few years ago in a trade, and totally forgot I had them until I found them recently. I figured by making them Relics, that would cover them being Venerable for the purposes of the trifecta.

Well from the perspective of cool Deathwing units you can't go wrong with an Int-Chap in TDA.

I don't think another LRC is right.

A Redeemer or Godhammer is what you should probably go for instead.

With the exception of the 2 DWT squads with Assault Cannons and the 2 Contemptors you don't have any other identical units.

And I think thematically that looks really cool.

So while similar everything is still distinct.

If you can find a way try to make the 2 assault cannons and 2 contemptors look different.

I think you need a couple dozen more terminators...

On a serious note. Why not a interrogator chaplain in tda? Definitely fits rule of cool, and very thematic.

Maybe you can also get a squad of cataphractii or tartaros termies and arm them normally, and spread them around the squads. Count as indominus pattern for rules, but adds flavor to the squads. Kinda how pa marines are mixed patterns as well

I would say add a Veberable Dread!

The rest of the models are right on spot (i have more or less the same load out but my squads are all 6 men and i will have to build and paint one more sgt as with new blast rules 5 men squads are better and with the leftover from the other squads i just need a sgt to make a sixth 5 men squad)

I would love to add a TDA Chaplain, but sadly, the only one available is in Finecast... It was the problems with Belial and the Chapter Ancient models that kind of killed the whole Dark Angels project. They had to send me 4 Belial replacements before I got a torso even remotely usable, and even then I had to use the Power Sword and Storm Bolter arms from the Dark Angels Terminator box to make a whole model. The Chapter Master was even worse, I gave up all hope of getting one even remotely usable after they sent me 11 replacements.. Even with that, I'm going to have to cut the banner arm off and glue it to a plastic veteran torso... And I am still going to have to use the best of the 12 banners I have and still have to fix it with greenstuff...

With my luck, Finecast is not worth the frustration and heartbreak.

I hadn't thought about Cataphractii or Tartaros Terminators. That might be something to look into. Tartaros seems more attractive with their Plasma Blaster Sergeant and Reaper Autocannon.

Once I have the two Contemptors assembled, I'll take pictures. I did try to give variation to some of the Sergeants and Assault Cannon specialists, so they wouldnt all look alike. 4 identical squads was really irking me... It'll be easier to show, than to explain.

The Finecast TDA Chaplain is not bad at all for conversion to TDA Interrogator Chaplain

I have this model but in metal and I converted it chopping off the top of the crozius to give him a DA themed one, I sculpted with greenstuff the DA sword using the wings he already has on right shoulder pads, I applied a reliquiary with two skulls from BT sprue on top of the armour and a DW blade with keys from DA upgrade sprue at his belt

I am also considering to give him a TDA cape from the DWT/DWK kit to complete the conversion

If you don't like resin models you can convert one DWK model to TDA Chaplain with ease

Put a DA banner icon on top of a DWK mace give him a skull helmet and you have a istant TDA Chaplain in plastic

You know... It didnt even occur to me to kitbash one from the DWK plastics. That is a really good idea. I need to look into this more. Thanks.

What makes a good Skull helmet?

There's the box of skulls from GW? Might be overkill for just one out of the set though, other options are bits sites for the plastic Chaplain helms or I've even seen Necron heads with a bit of greenstuff used.

Or if money is no problem and you are willing to pay scalpers, i would suggest you hunt the limited run plastic TDA chappy. I felt that the finecast has better details, but the plastic one is pretty good looking too. Here is the pix (not mine btw)

Holy crap, I didnt even know that existed!

Holy crap, that's a lot for a single mini...

ouch...
