Morale Changes

Morale is definitely different, but we don't how yet. We can speculate, but there isn't enough of a hint in the article to say with any degree of certainty. Cumulative casualties seems just way too harsh to me. If blast changes didn't make hordes obsolete, that change would definitely do the trick. No one would ever take units over 10. Ever.

Exactly. If youre not counting that turn that means losses from other turns must be being counted. Otherwise youre just passing a morale test

Or there are other reasons why a morale test could be forced and usually you'd need to add any casualties that turn to those tests.

It does not. It clearly says "that turn".

There wouldn't be a benefit to not counting the models destroyed "that turn" unless the casualties from other turns mattered. It seems to imply that morale is going to be based on cumulative losses.

In a way that makes figuring out morale easier. It's not what you lost that turn but what was removed from the squad overall.

This is going to make tyranid synapnse critical for thier hordes as well as mob rule for orks.

For armies with 10ish squad sizes their going to start hurting after more then half the squad goes, which seems about right.

Looks like combat squading is going to be in vogue again.

But then again it becomes easier to reduce those units below 3 models and be able to target any character they were screening.

It's another trade-off that will make the game more interesting.

Very good point.

Hadn't they already mentioned that battle attrition was going to be a thing? ie, morale will be affected by the whole duration of the battle, not just a turn?

Thats what Im thinking. Could be whole battle, could be previous turn. Anything other than whole battle would be hard to keep track of except maybe add 1 if theyve suffered casualties in a previous turn

You guys are reading into things. The Last Rites stratagem in the article uses exact same text is does in the Sisters codex.

While true, it seems completely plausible to me that the Sisters book was written with 9th in mind given that is is only a few months old, and the stratagem could be worded that way intentionally.

I hope it is cumulative. One of the armies I play are Night Lights and it is disgusting that your only unique army trait is completely worthless. If morale included all models in a unit lost over the battle which I might add makes more sense than the current rule in 8th then my ONLY ARMY TRAIT might not be completely worthless.

Unless I play Necrons or any of the number of armies that completely bypass morale phase.
