What do you use now in place of GW Caliban Green spray?

Recommended Posts

Subject line says it all.

I'm looking for a good dark green spray to do Dark Angel battle company models. I've already tried Army Painter Angel Green and I wasn't impressed by how thick it goes on even at 14" away.

I found out today Vallejo doesn't make a dark green spray :(

Any advice or help appreciated!

I still have a can for spraying vehicles but once that runs out I'm going the airbrush route too. It's a fairly substantial setup cost but makes things easier in the long run. I don't have a fixed place to use my airbrush so I have to pack it away after every use but it's still worth it in my opinion.

I don't know any other companies that have a similar colour in their spraycan range but to be fair I haven't looked very hard.

Iirc, Army Painter sells a spray primer called "Angel Green", maybe look into that? I believe Vallejo also sells a primer that's a rough equivalent

Vallejo certainly does make a dark green spray paint, however it is part of the 'Hobby Paint' line; they don't do Game Colors as sprays. In this case, the color they do have is 'Russian Green'. I don't have a Caliban spray to compare it to directly; I haven't had one of those cans in years. Going off of memory, the Russian Green is probably a little darker and more brown tinge to it. https://acrylicosvallejo.com/en/product/hobby/hobby-paint-en/russian-green-4bo/

It turns out Vallejo have expanded their range to include fantasy colours and now do Dark Green as a spray (as well as Sick Green and Goblin Green). As Dark Green is the Game Colour analogue of Dark Angels Green, I would imagine that it would be similar to Caliban Green.  As you suggest, those which are the same as their Surface Primer range are designed for military vehicles, and will be a bit dully/earthy in comparison.

Poundshop in the UK does random sprays at times, i got a decent Can of Dark angels green from there at some time so its out there somewhere. For a more reliable source the Halfords spray paints range is generally good and has all sorts of colours.
