Spazmolytic's HB Legion WIP Log

Recommended Posts

Greetings everyone! A few might know me most will not as I'm not a big poster around here. Starting off, I have never played a game of AT but have been attracted to it from the get go, just couldn't pull the funds to buy into it. A lot has changed in these past few years & with the launch of the new starter set I could resist no more. Truth told I'm more of a hobbyist than a gamer however this game has me pegged to reverse that trend (although I see myself collecting way more models than I'll need because they are just that awesome!!!) Now I decided to go the homebrew route mainly because I'm not very well versed in this universe to know if there is a Legion/House that will speak to me, in time maybe. I wanted to break away from the Latin underpinnings of the legions & push into the Celtic/Gaelic. I also have my guy's turning Renegades/Mercenaries & I hear Blackshields will be a thing upcoming so that is a possibility.

So the working name of my Legion is Mek Vannin (known as The Heathens) from the world of Cregneash. The Knight household (Longhouse) is House Falcata (Brothers of the Blade) from the world of Barra. Still fleshing out their stories but the main part is the Knights being called out as traitors by Rogal Dorn & because of the ties to the Knights, Mek Vannin banish themselves & have a deep seated hatred for the Imperial fists & their allies as a result.

Anyway if I do or say something that isn't very good or fluffy please bring it to my attention as I want to pull myself into this game.

So here goes with what I have so far

Recieved both of these about 1 1/2 months ago and have been plugging away in my spare time!

gallery_100232_16466_447091.jpg First Titan completed, no name as of yet

gallery_100232_16466_99723.jpg Second Warhound done! No name yet

Just started on the first Reaver.

Now besides the Celtic/Gaelic flavour I also envisioned these guys as WW2 style fighter pilots (Knights) and Bombardiers (Titans crew) , just seemed like a natural fit to me!

Anyway let me know what you think, I still have a long way to go and who knows when I'll get my first game in but plan on being pretty active in this sub-forum

Thanks

Chris

Tedious point warning:

You might not yet have begun building your Reavers' legs. Take great care when you do, and follow the instructions carefully. Probably a majority of first Reavers have something wrong with their leg construction, whether it's feet on the wrong sides, thighs on backwards, shin armour on the wrong sides or the pistons connecting the feet clashing with the armour.

Best advice is to have the feet (checking they're the correct ones!) pretty straight on the end of the leg. If you have much of an angle at the ankle joint you will often have trouble attaching the pistons - and especially their armour.

First off thanks for the warm welcome folks!! & thanks for the warning Mandragola! As it  is I have started with the legs and do see how people mess things up, even messed up a few times myself but luckily I caught it well before the glue did its thing!!! Could be because I have Caribou vision (crap for those that don't know what a Caribou is) but the drawings, at least the ones I have, are kinda iffy on a few installations. Followed the instructions so hopefully the feet are correct, leg armour seems to fit so there's that!

Gorgeous! The Lucy's carapace is wonderful, great idea to use the WWII pin-ups. Your titans would tie up nicely with Aeronautica Imperialis stuff as well with these.

Reaver's legs are particularly notorious. You can achieve quite dynamic poses but this requires a lot of dry fitting. There are quite a few good tips and tricks scattered in the various project logs here.

Eager to see the next steps.

You've got a great eye for color.

Both your Titans and Knights have beautiful color schemes.

Fabulous work, and welcome!

Thanks a lot for the warm welcome schoon, appreciated!

Excellent work on the Knights.

Thanks Bjorn

Very impressive schemes and I am curious to see how the legio develops. It's an interesting idea for a theme. I believe that WWII fighters and bomber craft took their names from the images their crew painted on the planes, so that could be your 'low gothic' name. You'll just need a high gothic name to go with it, maybe for contrast?

Maybe you could weave this into the background for the legio in some manner? Perhaps there is conflict between the magos and the way they rever the god machines and their crews who rever them in a rather different way? Perhaps the legio are a legio minoris and often committed to warzones where they face overwhelming odds, generating an irreverent but close bond between the crew and the machines that return them safely from combat?

  • 4 weeks later...

Afternoon folks, it has been forever and a day or at least felt like it since I've posted in this thread. I've finally finished "Lucy" and have to say I'm thoroughly impressed with how everything went. First time magnetizing stuff, I dig the process. Providing the world stays on course I might even get in a game before New Years at my local GW store.
