Imperial Agent Integration in PA- Better or Worse?

Recommended Posts

A bit too soon perhaps- the Inquisition info today didn't answer as many questions as I had hoped. But basically, I don't feel like PA is really addressing Imperial Agent integration.

You can include an Inquisition detachment eh? Well, except that Inquisition don't have troops, so can't fit into a core detachment, meaning that you have to pay for it even if your army is 100% Inquisition.

Ditto on Null Maiden Vanguards.

Even the strat they showed us: they claimed it was new, but it isn't really; it's just a thing that used to be a WL trait becoming a strat instead. I grant that it's more accessible as a strat than it was as a WL trait, but calling it new is disingenuous.

I wish they had told us more.

I’m 50% happy. I’ll need to see more to know if it’ll stay there or not. It sounds to me like you can just add inquisition to Imperium outright. It’ll probably be limited to patrol/battalion/brigade, as things seem to be lately, but I can live with that. I want to know how much inquisition I can take and if I can take them with assassins. If so, I might work them into a fluffy inquisition storm trooper IG battalion as my 9th force.

Also, how will land raiders work?

The land raider is a good question. I think the reason they were in pure Inquisition lists is that they were in the Forge World books as an Inquisition unit.

We have Imperial Authority, so we can ride in other Imperial vehicles, but we don't have vehicles of our own in anything but FW material, so unless we're allied, there is no source for a transport.

GW is rewriting the FW books, but if the Inquisition Land Raider stays, according to the Warcom article, it too could be dropped into an Imperial Detachment because it would be part of the Inquisition forces. This is another reason I don't entirely trust the Warcom article, and will not allow myself the luxury of belief until I see the actual rule.

Being able to include Inquisition Forces in an Imperial Detachment rather than just AN Inquisitor would be far and away the biggest and best change from the WD dex. How Stu and Wade could talk for a half hour about the Inquisition without mentioning the most important change is beyond me. It's also beyond me that this Warcom article wouldn't make a bigger deal of this than reprinting a ton of things that haven't changed at all since the WD dex.

Sneaking in the most important detail about how the army functions as an afterthought in the last two lines of the article makes me think that maybe the Warcom writer got "Inquisitor" and "Inquisition Forces" confused.

I just finished reading through the War of the Spider and, until I got to their section, I actually forgot the Assassinorum were part of it (so focused was I on both Fabius Bile and the Death Guard, I still remembered the Custodes would be there, but not the Assassins).  There were 2 great things I noticed:

  • 1 Assassin can be included without breaking things like Combat Doctrines, etc.
  • All the different temples' Assassins cost the same points...so we can easily swap between them (previously, iirc the Assassins all started as the same points costs but I thought a Chapter Approved changed some points values so it wasn't as convenient to switch.)

Not a huge deal, but I really like that and am thinking of setting aside points for this.  I really do like the idea of Assassins being cameo guest stars in the episodic series that are my armies.  This was definitely better, an improvement for Imperial Agents in regards to Assassins at least.

And like you guys, I really want to see what they do for the Inquisition.  Also like you, I think I'm managing expectations, but tbh just for myself this is a nice-to-have rather than a must-do.

The first thing I thought of after reading the warcom article is bringing a single Acolyte with plasma so that he’d be a relatively cheap but deadly character screened by a unit. If character targeting hadn’t changed for 9th he’d also be a super cheap way to hold back objectives.

In general I like that it gives you ways to bring inquisition with Imperial armies if the Warcom article is indeed accurate.

This was my vision for acolytes as well.

Anybody like the new Sinead O’Connor inquisitor? Looks interesting to me, I’ll probably buy the model. The rules aren’t bad either, I wonder what her cost will be.

I am hoping that Authority of the Inquisition is modified with something along the lines of: "When an Imperial Transport is taken as a Transport Choice for an Inquisition Detachment, add the  <Ordo> keyword of the Detachment  to that Transport"
