Bloody's return to a Wolf Legion

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow Wolf Brothers!

I honestly have been so frustrated by GWs rules writing, table top representation, and over all direction that the SWs were moving in that I was just about ready to give up and move on all together. I will absolutely end up having way more armies than I ever thought I would in 40k, but I've decided starting 9th edition I would be doing my best to focus on my first army, and return to the Fang!

I'm doing something I never thought I would end up doing in the process.. going full (mostly) Primaris with my Space Wolves. I have a decent amount of 30k Space Wolves that I'm painting/hobbying with as well and instead of having completely different schemes going forward, all of my Space Wolves are going to be rocking the legion vibe. I found out along my time in the hobby, that I'm really interested in the HH; the fluff in 30k, the units, and the structure. It appears the direction that GW is going in with the Primaris range is much more related to legion organization than units typically have been in 40k (particularly for the Space Wolves). I'm not as opposed to that as it seems like many of the Space Wolves fans are, so I'm just going to embrace it and run with it.

My first Space Wolves army went through many design changes but I ultimately ended up being Blackmanes Great Company. I just picked up the SWs half of prophecy of the wolf off of ebay so I'm set to continue on with that them for my new Space Wolves army. We'll see what the new edition offers us but right now I'm thinking the bulk of the units will be phobos with the exception of Ragnar and the assault Intecessors that'll accompany him.

I will be documenting my progress in this thread as my army components come in. As of today I haven't received my PotW units yet, and the only unit I have that will be part of this army is an Impulsor that I'll start building today.

Anyone else feel like going in the Legion direction as well?

Impulsors fit six (6) Primaris.

Ragnar

P-WP

4 Vet Bladeguard?

Impulsor with Shield dome

This should be a cheap and pressing element

Then, get as many Impulsors as you care to toss five or six man Intercessor (IC's) into

As wanted:

5 or 6 IC's, including PL

Impulsor with Shield dome

5 to toss in an HQ, 6 for just a full unit

Seriously cheap, and quite a bit better off than even a full GH pack at 10 in a Rhino with a WGPL making the 10th, and even two Range Special Weapons!

After that, build to suit.

Hellblasters are a bit odd right now, not fully supported however they should be getting buffs soon, or some rules tweaking that isn't quite seen yet to make them work better.

Also, a pack of 5 or 6 fits into an Impulsor with Shield Dome.

So, for a standard Mark X armor force, Primaris won't really hurt nor want, and the new bikes keep growing on me!

I'm not quite sure on how many Bladeguard Veterans are going to be allowed, however it might be like WG packs; load up!

Also, 1 Vet IC pack, Veteran Intercessors, cannot be understated. At 5 for 1 CP to add +1 A and +1 Ld, this is amazingly vital and can help shore up either one's assault or rear line.

One final note, sorry: ABR's, Auto Bolt Rifles, are practically MADE for pressing forwards with Impulsors, and a solid Vet IC pack will deliver them well.

Just be sure to give your PL's TH's if you can, seriously well worth the points, let alone Lone Wolfing them!

I read on a FB post that one of the guys at GW has said they blade guard vets can be taken in units of 5 and would pair really well with Ragnar. I'm also going to be working on an UMs are and the initial Blade vets will go to that army first.

My Heavy support is going to come from a Leviathan in a Lucius and I think Long Fangs in a Drop Pod, although I am considering 2 units of eliminators.. we'll see.
