Bladeguard in Black Templars

I prefer a mix between the painting from the Iron Hands example and this one. I like it more if the tabbards are more white then creme.

I liked their old 3rd tabards that went from creme to white personally. Gave the shadows some warmth but showed it was still white cloth.

While I appreciate that they painted one up as Black Templar, it just shows how little GW even knows us. That model would be a Sword Brethren, not an initiate so they completely got his colors wrong. Still, can't wait to get these in my hands.

They discussed it how to paint this model although they know how BT should look like they wanted the clear style for newbies so that everyone is realizing that this is a Black Templar

Did you not see the posts about that in the other thread. It was deliberately done to show an exemplar of the chapter. Most people won't recognise SB colours.

Sad but true. They'd look at that red cross on the black background and ask if it was a Red Templar or something.

Regardless of how the 'Eavy Metal team painted that particular model, the Bladeguard look like a decent fit for the Black Templars. Players will be free to paint their own Bladeguard however they want, whether they want to use the current scheme, the 4th edition scheme (which is the root of the current scheme), or even the 3rd edition scheme. I suppose someone could even go with the original version of the Black Templars (I'm not sure why anyone would want to do that, but to each his own).

There are lots of places for fermee crosses, litanies, and the like; and it won't be too hard to add some chains. If the head/helmet is interchangeable, it will be easy to give these models the appropriate Black Templars thematic appearance.

I love the fact that they didnt  this for us "old" Fans to paint one in original SB colorscheme. Instead they done this for other people who maybe wants to start a Black Templar army after this release.

btw  - If  you dont need the original shields I would buy them.

I mean they painted the other chapters in their correct colors, but apparently we aren't well known enough to get the distinction? I don't buy that for a second, BT are one of the most popular chapters out there and if you put "Black Templar Sword Brethren" on the image, it's plain what it is. They didn't pay attention and are just covering it up IMO.

So how do you guys feel about the "under tabard" bit? At first I didn't like it and was going to sculpt some GS over top, but the more I look at it the more i'm ok with it. The chest armor is really cool looking.

Let's be honest, Templars do things a bit differently when it comes to chapter markings and that can throw the less well informed off. Especially new players who don't even know who the Black Templars are.

It's like there was that one Templar who thought, "I hate replacing tabards after every combat", and started tucking it under his chest armor.

Progress is a game of millimeters with GW

One is forced to wonder, though, if it degrades the integrity of the armour's sealing properties (void combat, toxins, radiation, etc.). Of course, I suppose none of those helmetless battle-brothers care for those things either. :mellow.:

Its a weird one. If they did a primaris kit like the failcast sword bros, they would print money. The options for even DIY knightly chapters would be immense.

Overall I prefer the traditional Tabard, this looks like the AoS wizards tabards and it puts me a bit off.
