Soooo, been learning more about tyrandis by watching battle reports and whatnot but that is neither here nor there

its all about how to paint these awesomely and relatively quickly

so i have decided to use citadel contrast paints to get the effect from this actual bug

need to use the following four shades for the scales

- warp lightning (green)

- leviadon blue

- shyish purple

- volupus pink

and nazdreg yellow for their skin

tomorrow i need to venture out and see if i can get these paints

never used these before but i just watched this so how hard can it be

here are the first four with their nifty same but smaller bases

and yes, i am using a mixture of all weapons just because of the modelling and interestingness

ill probably do 6 devourers / 3 fleshborers / 3 spinefists per box of 12

these dudes have a piece of the floor glued to their feet, so it works well with my basing

also you need to heat up the tails; i just used a lighter and bent them so they were not all the same

i hate having everything the same

cheers

Are you going for the iridescent look? A metallic colour on the carapace and then the contrast paint would yield that.

Alternatively-- gloss black carapace followed by a "colorshift" paint like those produced by green stuff world or turbo dork might get the desired iridescent effect

so much yes right now

gallery_217558_16474_47300.jpg

obviously the bases are already figured out

after much deliberation, here is how i intend on painting these dudes

1) using the volupus pink i will paint all the edges of the carapace, all the skin rips, tongues and sunken gun details since they are a part of thier guns; correct?

2) all carapace parts and skin parts will be cleaned up with corax white if pink got on there

3) all carapace parts and talons will be thinly painted warp lightning (green)

4) once dried, all carapace edges and talons will be touched up with leviadon blue (mostly in the thinner areas leaving the nice green exposed)

5) all carapace edges and talons will be finally touched up with shyish purple

6) all skin and gun high spots will be painted nazdreg yellow

7) clean up teeth and eyes

i am pretty sure four layers(ish) of this new paint ink stuff will do the same as what was mentioned above on the carapace

what i am going for is an oil slick paint job seen here

hopefully

now you got me thinking

why dont i just drybrush/paint the carapace with stormhost silver before all this.... allow me to test this first on some primed sprue before on an expensive model....

update - these are basically highlighter paints, as in they took highlighters and squeezed the juice out

when they layer they get darker sooooo all my color changes need to over white or a base coat....

....

the silver paint does help as the primer is thin and this highlighter juice is very thin

so

1) drybrush entire model stormhost silver

2) drybrush ahriman blue on the centers of the carapace

3) using the contrast color highlighter juice, go green, blue, purple, pink on carapace and claws from middles to edges; pink on flesh parts

4) clean up flesh with white paint

5) use the yellow on flesh

because all the color distinctions will be freehand i hope the models will have an interesting.... colorful look

yellow dudes with pink insides and oil slick shells and claws will be something.... hehee

this is not paint however it is really easy to use and works really fast and to do this with paint would take a long time

i think i am going to wash the carapace with nuln oil anyways at the end to get more definition on the flat areas of the model

im pretty happy with how they look however

i was worried until i put the volupus pink on

that made it awesomesauce baws

anyways

med_gallery_217558_16474_1033502.pngmed_gallery_217558_16474_512845.pngmed_gallery_217558_16474_187343.png

med_gallery_217558_16474_1126498.png

so next after my break because im a done for now is to

1) finish the pink on the skin and weapon

2) clean up the white on the flesh

3) paint the flesh that abrasive yellow

by the way

i had a shirt that looks exactly like this paint scheme so far

no lies

and with the yellow its like im back in 1993 wearing mustard corduroy pants

so in effect

all these models are kevins....

Loving this. Look forward to seeing big bugs done up.

which bug bugs do i paint...?

so tired from staying up last night and LEARNING an awful lot about these dudes from the codex.... to only learn that i need chapter approved 2019 and some other baal book to like have an actual idea what i have to work with here in 2020....

out of the 7 hive fleet adaptions that i have available presently, i think Jormungandr seems the most fitting for this army

i am not painting these bugs just so marines pop them off the table guy....

their adaptation adds to SURVIVAL; their "oil slick" carapace paint job allows them to ALWAYS benefit from cover

see what i did there

i chose the fleet adaption based on my scarab paint job....

how does one simply "movement phase up the table" until your hoard is within range to do stuff....

but they tunnel troops choices (not sure if that means all infantry choices) when certain units tunnel....

right off the bat Jormungandr units with invulnerable saves (that dont fly) are needed as are tunneling dudes so infantry can deep strike....

psychers are a plus since casting Catalist on beefy monsters adds more resilience....

this seems like a fleet adaptation that benefits elite units....

lets think about it.... here.... because i need to know what to paint guy

and yes this is about WIP and painting because i need to understand what it is i am going for here; and this section seems to have peoples and feedbacks

forgiveness prease; if i am breaking some rules here guy....

obviously i needs a Brigade here because units units units; lots of dudes

with only 5 heavy/fast options.... there lies the challenge of this list; how to balance "shooty" with "deep striking troops" with "psycher survivorability" as you slowly march up the table that usually requires "lots of wounds"

anyways im thinking....

ill post thoughts in the tyranid army list place later and link it here or something

is that a balanced 194 WOUND brigade of beastly things at 1999 pts (PL 124) which will be so much fun to paint...?

only 10 monsters and 93 troops to paint....

its like a ONE OF ALL THE MONSTERS LIST

i could paint that so fast guy....

cheers

Paint up a flying hive tyrant with brainleech devourers. Can't go wrong with that. Also paint whatever tyranids you want for the enjoyment of it. The bigger nids will look good in that scheme; like a tyrannofex.

so i need to paint 10 monsters and 63 infantry type guys (+30 for the Tervigon???) to make 2000pts of Jormungandr Brigade Alittlebit (a-little-bit); because they are small....

194 wounds, high toughness, better saves and lots of psychers to cast more INV saves.... and PL124....

i have a paint scheme and a plan now

perfect

unless this is a really really bad idea i am going to run with this

so now.... now what do i need for marines to counter this juggernaut hoard @2000pts (PV 124).... guns.... hrmmm....

thanks website forum place smile.png

after all that paperhammer i assembled my swarmlord

made him a bit taller by pinning his chest to his legs and leaving a space

bent his tail and tongue with a lighter

nice motion look with this one.... 4 arms with swords....

going to paint this one all assembled minus the head

gallery_217558_16474_27037.jpg

it begins

gallery_217558_16474_629014.png

now time to think of a vanilla space marine force to counter the beasty horde

I've been staring at the termagaunt for a bit in the picture above and I'm wondering (with so many models in the queue) if the pink in the joints and smaller openings is a necessary step (at least on the smaller gaunts) considering the shading you got from the contrast paint. The pink looks quite nice on the gun, but I really don't see it relative to the almost ochre yellow around the joints and near the carapace.

Edit: replaced a pronoun with a noun.

the pink is pretty well my favorite part on that guy and that level of detail is quick to do even with a fine detail brush

contrast colors are not paint and i didnt clean up the pink with white paint before i washed it with the yellow

you can see the transition from pink to pink/yellow to yellow and thats just more bonus depth

the way i see it, the pink is where the shell meets the flesh

so the edges of the shells and cracks of the skin needs the pink and a little pink on the shells completes it

swarmlord is primed now and i am starting painting him after i hit reply

he will be done today

oh yes

he will be done....

ill probably just leave the base until there are more to do at once....

cheers guy
