My Custodes and other Agents

To start of my Inquisitor selection, I painted a couple of non-GW figs for the job. Normally I don't have much off-brand models, but while I've been selling away almost all of my unbuilt Raging Heroes models, I kept these two as I like 'em and I figured they'd make for decent Inquisitors if nothing else. I know they lack any fitting insignia, but oh well. The left one I figured could be Ordo Hereticus, and on the right Ordo Xenos psyker with her unusual gear.

I might do some highlighting on the right one, so much brass that up close it's kinda "flat", though at gaming distances it looks just fine.

Going forward I do have an official GW fig for an Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor with plasma pistol, and two female Inquisitors. I don't know why I got the latter two though, the heads/hair are just hideous. I also mean to convert a GK terminator into an Ordo Malleus terminator Inquisitor with spycannon and Nemesis hammer. I've got it built but haven't yet removed the GK-specific iconology etc. And at some point I do want to get Greyfax, it's such a nice model. Actually the chest armor on these two reminded me of Greyfax's gear, which is one reason why they "got the job".

I've been meaning to make a Custodes detachment ever since the Burning of Prospero box set, but it has been stuck in limbo with the Sisters of Silence being mostly prepared for painting with one fully painted, and the Custodian Guard magnetized and basecoated with one also partially highlighted (which I probably won't be doing for the rest). Though now that I'm back on the project - thanks to the "Talons" integration - I found myself re-basecoating most of the Custodian squad because the old gold spray had been less than optimal, and the new one I got is slightly brighter.

So, today with the spray I started to get the paint-ball rolling:

Included is all my current Custodes/Talons, except the one Sister which is painted. So there's the SoS squad, Guard squad and one box each of Wardens, Allarus and Vertus. Enough for a 1k list to start with. I plan to add a second box of Allarus and Vertus, and maybe something else to make it to 2k if I want to play mono-codex at that level. I'm limiting myself to plastics though, no fancy FW stuff since tournaments here don't allow them (in case I end up trying these guys in one) plus they're so much costlier. Mostly the problem as such ends up being lack of ranged anti-tank.

Paintjob is going to be the classic Custodes to make it fast. Big reason for this project is to have an army that's fast to play, since I'm such a slow player. But I'm also a slow painter so the golden scheme with red cloths is nice-looking and quick to do.

The main problem so far modeling-wise is that it's a pain to make Guardian spears and Castellan axes swappable for the Wardens and Allarus. 2x1mm magnets are too thick, and trying to file them down is a pain. I prefer the axes look-wise but sometimes it's necessary to reduce points cost and all that. Also I'm not sure whether to include the misericordias or not (except for Wardens, of course) since they also may or may not end up being in any specific list due to fine-tuning points. I suppose it doesn't matter, WYSIWYG not being THAT strict around here. Mostly my own OCD being the problem.
