9e We Don't Know Enough Yet Karack! Karack Theory Thread

Recommended Posts

Hello.

Yep, early as ever.

---

One possible press element, I love this grouping

1 GH pack

5 or 10, 10'th can be WGPL

Rhino or Razorback to taste

5+WGPL in Razor, 1 PG as option if wanted

10 in Rhino, 9+WGPL if wanted, 2 PGs as option if wanted

Astartes Chainswords for all!

1 Intercessor or Assault Intercessor Pack

6 IC's or AIC's, 1 ICPL or AICPL w/ TH for ICPL, for now AICPL can't get TH, we'll know more when the 9e Chapter Approved are out

Impulsor with Dome

Intercessors should be either ABRs or BRs for IC pack, ABRs likely win out on press

---

Ol Glory Days BC in LRC or Stormwolf

2 or 3 5 man BC packs

if 2: 2 WGPL's, add WP with Mantra, MoS - 3 PA slots left, might be worth a 3 man WG PA Pack to mess things up, or just add 2 + 1 to the BC packs

if 3: 3 PFs? Add Wp

LRC to taste

OR

Stormwolf to taste

---

Long Fangs are going to be getting pretty heavily hit this edition, and the new Eradicators really make it hurt even more

Razorback with 2 LF packs, 3 each, 2 LFs + 1 LFPL each; 4 weapons to taste, two units can fire at up to four targets

Razorback with 1 LF pack, either 5 LFs + LFPL or 4 LFs + LFPL + WGPL w/ SS/? as interested, five or four heavy weapons

Drop Pod with two LF Packs, can have up to any 10 in total, including 2 at 4 LFs + LFPL + WGPL w/ SS/? and four heavy weapons, drop bodies for more killy or assaulty elements

Drop Pod with 1 LF pack, 5 LF's + LFPL + WGPL w/ SS/? + 3 WG PA Pack, kitted to shield and protect or go shred something nearby in melee

---

I'm thinking as I type, any other ideas?

Edit:

Astartes Chainswords look absolutely beastly on GH's now...

Long Fangs in a Rhino would net a 7 man LF Pack with 5 LF's, LFPL, WGPL, and 3 bodies left for a 3 man WG PA Pack to either help shield or go press if the LF's are to deploy forward.

At only -1 to hit, charging HB's up the field for a turn two pile out and shoot n' scoot seems strong, especially with a 3 man WGPA Pack to go press something's face into the floor or snow or to provide some additional shielding. Another small LF pack with two MM's and a LFPL could be really good, or maybe a 2 LF Pack, 1 LF w/ weapon and a LFPL to leave room for a RP or someone else to provide a small HQ bodyguard element.

Anyone else with some ideas?

What's your ideal ride of an Impulsor with Bladeguard Veterans?

I figure:

Ragnar

5 Bladeguard Vets

Impulsor w/ Dome

OR

Ragnar

4 Bladeguard Vets

P-WP

Impulsor w/ Dome

Either might work, or take the first with a P-WP on Outrider Bike for mobile support should greatly aid the force in general.

If we're stuck with 3 BV's, Bladeguard Veterans, per unit thus far, how many units per Impulsor, 1 or 2, and what other HQ's might work or aid in support roles nearby, or inside?

I could see including 2 impulsors, one with 6 bladeguard vets, the other with ragnar and 5 intercessors (maybe vets also). The chaplain (wolf priest) on bike seems like a solid choice, since it has great movement to get where you are needed, and will be rough to put down.

I don’t care for the Wolf Priest in a transport, since he can’t Inspire until he’s on the table. For now a Jump Pack Firstborn or a Biker Primaris Wolf Priest are definitely the optimal choices for getting your Litanies in play.

As far as other appropriate supporting characters to travel in Impulsors with your Bladeguard Vets, other than Ragnar, of course, either the Justicar or the Bladeguard Battle Leader would be your best options.

Ragnar & 5 intercessors with a hammer sgt

1 wolf priest, 1 blade guard LT, 3 blade guards, 1 judicar

Priest is primarily there to heal until they get stuck in. Ive basically just written off his chaplain side.

Ragnars transport gets targeted up front. Its not too hard to actually bust his can open and strip all the dudes around him away. So I have played it where I just put the cheapest stuff with him and if they get popped early well he still moves fast and the intercessors still do well at range. The priest can swoop in from the other one and heal/revive. The BGs and Judicar don't need him.

I look at it from a black and white POV with some small amount recent experience. An Impulsor with ragnar and intercessors is basically equal to a knight in points. It can easily shoot and/or stomp them out in 1 round. It hurts really bad when an opponent goes first, Pops the transport then losing 3 wound models for each 1 you rolled.

2 double volkite moirax wardogs smashed them.

A tank ace leman russ with relic cannon, las cannon and 2 plasma fragged them as well.

My next theme is to use more dreads and Eradicators alongside intercessors and incursors to push for more board control then use rag and the other choppy dudes to outflank from reserves.

I definitely need more games to refine the army and ill be trying to stack heavy in just a couple things then I should be able to find balance between the extremes

Agreed, Priests need their own mobility. A lot will depend on whether the Primaris Priest on bike will get access to healing balms or if he is just a renamed Chaplain. I will be assuming this is the case until I hear otherwise.

If you need the healing capability then a Jump Priest will be necessary otherwise the Primaris Priest on bike looks like he is going to be a bit of a beast. 20" when Advancing will make sure you get those Litanies where you need them on time.

What makes you think Astartes chainswords will apply to any units besides those in the Edge of Silence book? I don't think any of those rules changes we see in there, are intended for anything outside that box set.

I think I am just going to pick up 12 of the Outriders from Indomitus (run them as 2*5) plus the Bike Priest when he is released. Should muller things pretty good when combined with Ragnar and Wolfen using the Cunning Of The Wolf :-)

I'd hold off on getting too many, as they'll probably only come in squads of 3,

The developers said you could take squads/packs of up to 9 Outriders, if memory serves, back when they announced and discussed this new unit.

any word on the ATV? Is that an option to take along with your outriders? Can they be taken in squads? Do they get the beefy chainswords?

We know it exists, nothing else. I'll expect it'll be one of the easy to build kits to come out along with the 9th edition core box (probably next month).

As far as Astartes Chainswords on GH's and BC's...

Total guess, however if GW fails in this way, that's pretty clear they're not going to keep the NorMarines around anywhere near as long as anyone had hoped.

Let alone me.

GH's and BC's with ASwd's would be stunning, especially as BC's with what, 4 A's on the Charge would be seriously hard hitting, shredding most chaff and GEQ pretty easily, despite the new way Armor Saves for most models are apparently meant to work now?

Still, not fixed in stone, just a hopeful wish; and one I genuinely hope GW realizes will net them nice amounts of money in the future!

I finally was looking around trying to collect all the charts for some scheming. I haven't found stats but I did see the ATVs are 80 pts with gatling and 85 with multimelta. They show squads of 1-3.

If they use the same kinda way attack bikes scaled to bikers i can get down with those. But if they dont get the vehicle tag they definitely won't see much competitive use. Although a durable unit with speed and range does well to deny reserves. Which is important for armies that push in.
