Good deal on drones?

I've talked to somebody at my FLGS about non-Imperial armies and their virtues and he's breaking up his T'au.

When I asked him what he's offering, he said he'd give me a good deal on 20 unpainted Shield Drones (amongst other things I know are priced just about right).

 

It would be 95€ with the average box of drones costing 12€ here.

 

I'd run shield drones if I was to start T'au and it seems an average box of drones nets you 1 shield drone per 12€.

So to mee, it seems to be an excellent deal and I'd like to take it since nobody sells his army if life is going great and nobody else plays T'au here.

 

Is it a good deal? I don't know the army so I don't know if 20 drones are too many or if there's a kit that provides drones for far less...

 

Edit: also, I'd have almost 500pts of T'au then if I count the frames I have left from 7th Ed Kill Team and the Broadside I picked up in a flight of fancy once.

Seems like a solid core, right?

That's what I thought.

But looking through the web, I kinda can't find a cheaper source either.

 

Are drones in droves even a thing anymore?

Have you thought of watching ebay for drone lots, I know I got one 14 drone lot for 30$usd.

 

the thing is, you have to watch for a few months to find a decent deal.

Yeah that’s expensive man. Check eBay you’ll score some soon enough. In fact, the dude offering them up seems a little sketch for doing that.

Any guitarists and probably car enthusiasts will know his type.

There's always those who buy a guitar for 500 Bucks, keep it pristine and then think they can get 500 Bucks for it when they sell it.

He's one of those, only with the drones he bought in pairs of 2 as well as scrounging up other shield drone parts.

 

I kinda feel for him now.

 

Edit: how's the used drone market in Europe/ the UK?

I know that the used guitar market here is nonexistent, especially compared to what's going on in the US.

Ridiculously pricey. I might give $40 for twenty drones if I was looking. But on the bright side, shield drones just went up 5 points a model so you wont need as many unless you want to spend 600 points on 20 shield drones.

I got all my drones from ebay for 1 - 1.50 € each. 2 € is fine for perfect condition, no more.

Wow, that is... sad. I can't think of any model I've seen hold its value that badly.

Eh, Drones are just an add on to units. Few actually care about the model or actually want the unit for what the unit itself does. Also doesn't help that they are some in pretty much every T'au box as well.
