Next purchase: Advice going into 9th

Heyall, I managed to snag an Indomitus box from a FLGS, and am using that as the foundation of my White Scars army. I was thinking of grabbing a SC Primaris Space Wolves box to net myself 10x Intercessors and 3x Aggressors. But what should I grab next for an aggressive and in your face list built around Indomitus?

Space Wolves were a consideration for me... I ended up going White Scars myself.  I ended up picking up that box as well. I think you have gist of it. I'd probably make sure to get a couple aggressive heavy hitters.

This army can be lacking in hard ranged support. I like the new Eradicators, but really it's not enough. Helblasters look to be better. I've added a Redemptor with plasma for 9th. I REALLY like the twin las Contemptors in 8th and will probably use them as well.

Aggressive is good, don't get me wrong, but you need more than that. Others hit harder, so you have to be able to brace for it while being able to dish out some punishment.

Otherwise I think I'd add... Impulsors. They took a hard hit in the points increase, and I already own 2, so maybe it's just that I have them already, but I still try to fit them in.

I'm just grabbing the Space Wolves SC cause it saves a lot of monies.

Mkay so maybe some hellblasters and a redemptor. Maybe a Repulsor to stick the aggressors or hellblasters in, plus extra firepower?

I don't know.... White Scars with so many shieldbearers? Big ones too. Doesn't it clash with their theme somewhat?

Maybe for direct White Scars, but I'm going to do a Primaris Successor. Even Mongolians used shields. Smaller wicker ones coated in leather, but still.

Im building my Army around a core of Leviathan dread (distraction carnifex) Assault squads w jumppacks and intercessors.

White scars used breacher squads during the Heresy like every other legion so shield Bearers are not un-scars in my opinion. In fact, i use 10 veterans with storm shields in a Rhino to cause all kinds of trouble :)

Absolutely. Sorry I wasn't more clear on that. I meant to say I did the exact same purchase when the Wolves collecting Primaris box set came out because it's just so good for the money, AND I used a lot of the Wolves sprues.

I love the idea of the Levi, but have you seen the points increase? Will you still take it?

I managed to snag a second indomitus box, then traded the chaplain and judiciar from the second box for ten intercessors. That's a pretty good start!

So, I have:

2x Bladeguard Captains

2x Bladeguard Lieutenants

1x Judiciar

1x Chaplain

2x Bladeguard Ancients

6x Bladeguard

6x Melta guys

6x Outriders

20x Assault Intercessors

10x Boltrifle Intercessors

I think I'll follow your advice, Prot, and grab a Redemptor and some Hellblasters.

I use my redemptor with encirclement when the match up is bad. But the Hellblasters seem like a good choice going into 9th. But those Eradicators are great, however awkward to transport.

What's driving your optimism on hellblasters in 9th? I've shied away from including them in my White Scars successor list due to their fragility, but I'm looking for more long range punch in that army. Did they get a points drop or something?

Absolutely. Gotta play with the rule of cool.

On that note I'm not as hot on the new Outriders as a lot of people and still see a traditional, mutli functional biker squad as being better for the points. However, I will try to use one squad of Outriders just cause I love the look of those bikes.

I'm a big Primaris sell out, and plan to use them exclusively. The only old models I still like are vehicles and Centurions.

I'm really only using Scars to represent my chapter because they have the best rules for a foot assault force. All the BA strats that boost movement and charges are for Jump Packs. Scars are scary for getting into melee quickly and alive, using both transports, reserves, and just running really fast. I mean, being able to move, advance, charge, with boosts to the move and charge is awesome. I don't really think it's super competitive or anything, I just think it best fits my desire to get stuck into the fight. I really liked the Battle of the Bastards in GOT, so the idea of my forces charging head first into the enemy, then my cavalry coming in from the side or back to smash into them is sick! Something like my Assault Intercessors smashing into their line, followed by my outsiders who have cut around the edge, and my Repulsed loaded with Aggressors and Bladeguard encircled coming in to rip them apart from behind.

I don't have any lore written for my Chapter, I just have a paint scheme and know how I want to play them. It's a start for sure.
